This could also be a way of reigning in price increases on the standard pro devices, though I doubt the extra camera features add that much to the cost.

While a dedicated DSLR is preferable, the best camera you the one you have on you at any given moment. I don;t lways have a true camera on me at all times.

So, a mix of camera/ phone camera can be handy.
Don’t say DSLR, I use mirrorless 😂🤣

If I don’t have a dedicated camera with me, I won’t shot… I won’t take a picture of something that I could take better… The picture needs to look professional…

And when I don’t have my camera with me, that’s when I’m probably in the city and there is nothing for me to shoot since street photography is not my thing… Not that I never take pictures with iPhone anymore but it’s not for photography anymore, just to take a picture of a place, documents or stuff like that…

An average brick weighs 4.5 pounds or 2 kilograms. Quadruple the weight of the current iPhone 17 Pro Max… and you’re still not at a brick. Then double that… and you’re still not at a brick. 🙂

I really don't like this annoying camera differentiation between Pro and Pro Max.
I went along with that last time, buying a 15 Pro Max instead of 15 Pro. Next time, I won't go again with the Max, just prefer the smaller size, but I won't compromise on the camera quality either.

So if this rumor turns out to be true, this just means that the 18 series is not for me and the 15 PM will be good for another 1-3 years.

The 17 Pro Max already crossed the threshold of being too big and bulky for me to keep as my daily driver. So I guess I'll be passing on the 18 Pro Max too... Wrangle it in, Apple.

never again will i get a pro max phone. typing keys near the side edges is extremely uncomfortable.
I fully agree. I got the 15 Pro Max over the 15 Pro on a whim (I was thinking $100 for bigger screen, better battery, and 5x was worth it). I regret it and really don't like using my phone much, since it is so massive. Doing anything one-handed is just so difficult. If I want a bigger screen for content consumption, I'll just use my MacBook.

Sadly, prices are going up on the iPhones, so I don't see myself switching to something smaller for another few years.

Sometimes, Apple does this, and sometimes, they don’t. I think it’s just as simple as the Pro Max having more internal space for larger components.

Agreed. In some cases Apple may do it to differentiate the models, but in most cases I think you are right: sometimes there just isn't enough space in the smaller phone for the first generation larger camera. I think that is the case here since they generally don't do it between the Pro and Pro Max.

"I can't believe the more expensive phone will have features the cheaper phone doesn't have!"

How can a grown adult type out something like that?
Except it’s not the case every year. The only thing the 17 Pro Max has that the 17 Pro doesn’t is a 2TB storage option.

That is so stupid. They better not start that sh*t up again. The Pro lineup has been extremely successful by having identical features at both sizes.

It’s highly obnoxious when Apple does this. Artificially withholding features for the bigger phone is like saying, “We either aren’t smart enough to figure it out or we are purposely punishing users of smaller phones.”
Maybe its going to be too expensive to do both. You don't know its artificial and even if it is welcome to electronics 101. More expensive iPhone means fancier features beyond just a bigger screen. Its a bigger phone but its not big enough where I really see why people are complaining.
