An average brick weighs 4.5 pounds or 2 kilograms. Quadruple the weight of the current iPhone 17 Pro Max… and you’re still not at a brick. Then double that… and you’re still not at a brick. 🙂
I don't understand the complaints. I have nerve damage in my neck that causes chronic pain and weakness in my arms, and I still don't see the problem.

Nice as they are, smartphones are no substitute for a dedicated device, even a DJI Osmo or Gopro handle and function better, as long as you can shoot at 4K who cares

As a photographer who uses so-called real cameras (dSLRs, mirrorless, Arca-Swiss 4x5), many of my best photographs were made with an iPhone.

Good photographs that stir a viewer's imagination are created by the photographer (and his/her eye, ability to read light, knowing how to compose, creating mystery by letting some details fall into the shadows, life experiences, and on and on...) and not using pedigree gear.

100% agree. You can see my Sony cameras in my signtature below but I have a bunch more including medium format film cameras and there have been times where my best photo was on my iPhone and I think "man it would have been so much cooler to say I shot this on 6x7 MF camera but I didn't! Oh well! Its a beautiful picture!". I took a trip to DC and NY earlier this year and people were stunned my iPhone 14 Pro Max got better pictures than my Sony camera.

Don't like this tactic by Apple of segregating features to the highest priced products in an attempt to boost profits. These are the kinds of practices that call for more regulation.

Unfortunately Apple is looking to cut build cost of Apple Pro and Pro Max inspite of raising prices At this point in time rumor might be true but I would say wait and see

Well, if this is true I'll probably wait to upgrade my 15 pro until next year...

I don't want the largest model, and I detest the "odd" years when Apple actually differentiates the cameras on the Pro and it's larger sibling.
Lol OK then, I'll just get a new battery on my 14 and use it for another 3 years. Thanks for not making me upgrade.
So you want to get a better phone with new features, but you won't because you can't have one particular new feature? The fact that the feature exists means having an older phone is better?

You think they were being literal?? Do you also think when people say "it weighs a ton" they are being literal?

Anyone remember when Apple had the same cameras across the 13 pro and 13 pro max?

People including myself we're grateful that we didn't have to buy the pro max to get the best cameras, but it looks Apple is sticking with the old "upsell" strategy.
That's not what upselling is. That's just offering different price/feature tiers which is basic business. They (purportedly) just won't happen to offer the particular set of features you want. Welcome to the world of the last ten years for small phone users.

If PM has significantly larger sensor which wouldn't otherwise fit into smaller phone then differentiation is justified. Also variable aperture would make more sense in this case.

never again will i get a pro max phone. typing keys near the side edges is extremely uncomfortable.
You can squish the keyboard to the right or left for one-handed typing. I've had it like this on all my phones after my SE1.

Yes, I want a newer, better phone, but I don't have to get it; so if I'm not happy with this year's offerings I'll wait until next year. 🙂

If you use two hands then why is the edge hard to reach?
I'm not sure if you're imagining my right thumb reaching to the left edge. If so, that's not what I mean.

The keyboard is low so my thumbs are basically curling to tap the A and backspace keys, making me miss the keys often. A narrower phone reduces the bend on my thumbs to press those same keys.

Oh I see, interesting. Usually two thumb typers prefer the bigger keyboards. Then I take it you wouldn't thumb type on an iPad in portrait (even a Mini).

portrait iPad mini is great actually.

I believe it's primarily due to the bezels being too thin. with iPhone mini/iPhone pro, the phone isn't really pressing against my palms as I naturally grip the phone with two hands with plenty of place between the sides of the phone and the palm

with iphone pro max, sides of the phone are pressing against the palm so the thumbs need to curl more. and since the bezels are so thin, the keys are hugging the sides more which makes my thumbs curl more.
