portrait iPad mini is great actually.

I believe it's primarily due to the bezels being too thin. with iPhone mini/iPhone pro, the phone isn't really pressing against my palms as I naturally grip the phone with two hands with plenty of place between the sides of the phone and the palm

with iphone pro max, sides of the phone are pressing against the palm so the thumbs need to curl more. and since the bezels are so thin, the keys are hugging the sides more which makes my thumbs curl more.

Why don't you just hold your phone differently when typing?

I've seen a lot of complaints in my day on Macrumors, but this is the first time I've ever seen this particular complaint.

Anyone remember when Apple had the same cameras across the 13 pro and 13 pro max?

People including myself we're grateful that we didn't have to buy the pro max to get the best cameras, but it looks Apple is sticking with the old "upsell" strategy.

Nope, I think both are offered by people so filled with drama (and needful of attention) that they find it very difficult to avoid exaggerating.

LOL no I totally get this but my 14 Pro Max introduced me to the drawstrings on the inside of my shorts. If regular shorts are sagging this much you either need a belt or shorts with a smaller waist.

An average brick weighs 4.5 pounds or 2 kilograms. Quadruple the weight of the current iPhone 17 Pro Max… and you’re still not at a brick. Then double that… and you’re still not at a brick. 🙂

That is mathematically true. But size and weight make it feel like a brick to many, myself included. It’s kinda like air temperature and chill factor. Brick is a fitting albeit subjective “metaphor”. I also like slab. On a German tech forum I saw “ziegelartig” (brick-like) this morning.

I expect the iPhone 36 Pro Max to be so big and heavy that you have to carry it in a backpack. Rumors have it that Apple is hanging on to the surplus inventory of wheels from the retired Mac Pro to be recycled for a line of Pro Max tow-skateboards.

I know what you mean, but I think the Pro Max is approaching that! My X100V is fairly comfortable, but yeah, there are smaller digital cameras still with swappable batteries and storage, most of which have larger sensors than the Pro Max to boot.

As a photographer who uses so-called real cameras (dSLRs, mirrorless, Arca-Swiss 4x5), many of my best photographs were made with an iPhone.

Good photographs that stir a viewer's imagination are created by the photographer (and his/her eye, ability to read light, knowing how to compose, creating mystery by letting some details fall into the shadows, life experiences, and on and on...) and not using pedigree gear.

Likely true.

But I see so many photographers who are getting started believe excellent photos require the best gear. When really it's about the photographer's skills in *making* a photograph that I mentioned in my previous post. Rather than taking a photograph (a phrase I never use).

It's wild how important these camera upgrades are anymore. I mean, I don't want to shoot photos with a potato, but I also don't care than much about camera upgrades. To each their own.

If they are going to do this I might as well get a 17 Pro now when prices are down to replace my 13 Pro as wait for the 18 Pro as there’s going to be hardly any difference between them. Or just wait for the iPhone 20.

That's kind of where I am now. I got a 13PM which still works just fine. I will see what the 18 lineup has to offer. And no doubt will be tempted by the foldable.

But probably can go ahead and wait another year for the 20 (or XX?)
