iPhone Air? And the silly camera "mound" is right in front of your eyes in the photos for this article. Isn't that because of a continued thinness fetish?

I'd like to have an iPhone with a flat back again. All these modern iphones (i have a plain 16 now) are really hard to align properly with a generic wireless charging stand because they're not flat. And let's not even think about using them on a table.
Sure. I just meant that “generally” speaking Apple devices have become thicker. The Pro phones are their thickest devices.
I like the flush cameras from the iphone 5s days but i feel like the phone would be too thick to flush it out now. We dont have the same cameras as back then.
Idk i go back and forth myself. I bought an old iphone SE(2022) aka iphone 6/7/8 and i actually miss the form factor of it. But i like my 16 Pro Max as well. To each their own i guess.

If these turn out to be the colors, I think they all look good. I wouldn't mind couple years of the beautiful orange color so it's available when I'm ready to upgrade.

Chinese leaker Ice Universe has shared an image showing four camera plateau protection plates with finishes that appear to match the latest color rumors for Apple's iPhone 18 Pro models.

Last week, a Macworld report claimed Apple is working on four color options for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max: Light blue, dark cherry, dark gray, and silver.

The four anodized aluminum camera lens protector plates shown here are labeled as black, silver, wine red, and blue. Note that the accessories in the picture are not actual phone bodies but third-party camera covers designed to complement the rumored finishes, and we believe the "black" description refers to dark gray. According to Weibo-based leaker Instant Digital, Apple won't be offering its next-generation premium models in a black color option this year.

All four colors are said to be still in development, and Apple still has time to make changes.

The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to be unveiled this September alongside Apple's first foldable iPhone, which will have its own set of color finishes that are likely to be more muted, with silver, white, and indigo rumored so far.

What is it with Apple’s obsession with colours? They change colours every year as if it’s a big deal, other companies just bring out silver or black devices while Apple bring out different colours or different shades of colours for no need whatsoever.

Colors sell units. It’s the most obvious tell you have the new device when the design is mostly the same or even identical to its predecessors.

They know what they’re doing.

Not sure what you mean. Jony Ive had the thinness fetish. The iphones, macbook pros, etc have only become thicker since Jony left.

And that's a GOOD thing, IMHO. I had the last generation Intel MBP. The touch bar model was all about "thin" and it was a compromise of design over performance and durability. The current form factor is, IMHO one of the best "Pro" design laptops in recent memory from any manufacturer. It's based around FUNCTION and not form. Form follows where it can, and the industrial design of the current MBP lineup is still great after several years. Longevity being one of the hallmarks of great design.

Part of what made the late Intel MBP so inferior (in hindsight) was the drive to make it SO thin and SO light that the functionality of what was supposed to be a pro level laptop was lost. When pushed just a little bit, the fans spooled up like it was takeoff time, the initial keyboard was a disaster, and doesn't everyone just LOVE being in Dongleland?

Not everyone loves the current design of the MBP but I'll be honest, I do. I think it's a really good balance between esthetics and utility.

If you want super thin, get a Neo or an Air (MB or phone). Apple has filled that segment of the market with devices that suit that audience.

If I'm paying for a "pro" device, be it a phone or a laptop, then I expect the pro FUNCTION to come first. I also expect it to be a little bigger, a little heavier, and more expensive. The trade off being I wanted the "pro" level functionality.

Jony Ive (can I say his name without calling him "Sir", IDK) is a design genius and brought a lot of good things to Apple. But much like Steve Jobs' obsession with fan noise, some of it was to the detriment of what the device was actually meant to do. Make phone calls, or ya know, actually compute.

It's gotta do the work and do it well, otherwise it's just a fashion statement and not a tool. And an expensive one at that.

I see it how this is gonna go. There was an interview last year with Greg Jozwiak explaining about the 3 color choices and how and why they left out the black color way. He said that the three colors chosen for last year were to cover all basis of taste which is 1) dark color. 2) Fun/Hero color. 3) Neutral Color. So for this year the Dark red color will replace the deep blue. The Light blue will replace the cosmic orange thus being the new fun color. And the silver remains. Unfortunately I see another year without a black pro iPhone.

Considering how well the cosmic orange colour sold, either this is a fake rumour, or Apple is run by idiots.
It's hideous color tho. Looks bold at first, but I can't imagine owning such color for my device. I'm going either silver or this blue for 18 Pro if they are real colors.

Every year people complain about the iPhone colors. Yet every year they come out with some new color. Last year everyone complained about no dark gray/black. This year it looks like they will be bringing back dark gray. Still everyone is complaining.

Last year I was not thrilled with the colors. No way was I going to have a construction cone orange phone. The silver didn't thrill me with the huge white plate on the back. So I went with the safest for me color, deep blue. Not thrilled about it but the best option for my taste. I did cover it with a case so not that big of a deal. Although it was the first time in a long time I used a case that wasn't clear and covered most of the color.

As much as I want a dark gray/black phone I will hold on to my deep blue for another year or 2. I will not upgrade one year later just for color.

I always regretted not getting a sierra blue 13 pro; now’s my chance to make that right.

I always regretting getting the Sierra Blue because six months later they came out with the same phone in the most perfect green they have ever released. One of the three main things I will never forgive Apple for doing to me, product release timing-wise.

Unfortunately, the adventurous orange shade was overshadowed by the noise around lack of durability. Since they are not changing the material again, my guess is that they are using a modified anodisation process to improve durability and as a result, colors can’t be as bright? Just a guess because orange sold so well that, as you say: they’d be stupid not to capitalize on that.

Or perhaps that issue with the orange going pink was more widespread than we thought and they don’t want a repeat?

I also wonder if they have learned from last year and adopted the anodisation best practices they ignored for the 17 Pro by adding a slight chamfer to the edges of the plateaux.

On a side note, DO NOT use these camera protection plates - it is very tricky to put on without any dust or lint on, and in some angles and lights footage taken looks off or washed out. And they are a nightmare to take off - had to use a metal pryer to rip off the super strong adhesive, was a miracle there were no scratches.

It's a shame because something like this is required - all the cases I've seen always expose the entire camera island.
There are many, many cases that cover the camera island. I have a Spigen that does.

Lol ranting? No I think you have completely misread my tone.

I don't get it. What happened, Apple? You released a real color for the 17 Pro and people loved it. I see it all the time when I'm out and about. Now it's back to dull and bland. Just remarkable how uneven this company is about color.

This is hilarious coping much? Shut up and give us colourful iphone gadgets and stop with the ‘hero’ color nonsense.

I like the bump on my air. It helps me hold it the right way or pick it up without having to look at it to deduce which way the amorphous black blob is front and up
