Love seeing them continue to offer bold colors for those that want it… and also that they are bringing back a dark gray for those that don't. I love that Cosmic Orange exists… it's just not for me. Bit I'm so glad it is there for those that love it!
Print nerd here: While I LOVE that we are getting Pantone colors, rather than vague names like "dark cherry" that are widely open to interpretation… I'm disappointed at the use (or inconsistency) of the "C" suffix on the color numbers. The C means that it is printed on coated stock (shiny paper), versus ending in a U to indicate uncoated (dull/regular) paper. If you are printing spot color, like a 1 or 2 color print job, or a brand color that you need to nail exactly, you use an ink mixed to that color formula. So Pantone 6076 is the ink color. It may look a little different on coated vs uncoated paper, so Pantone publishes separate ink swatch books printed on each (plus one for matte, which is coated, but with a matte finish… but not as dull as uncoated paper).
If you are printing in CMYK ("4 color process" with the standard cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks that make up most of "full color" printing), there are Pantone "Color Bridge" swatch books and CMYK formulae to simulate the spot ink colors as closely as possible. Those CMYK formulae will differ for coated and uncoated papers to better simulate the spot ink color on that type of paper. But that isn't a factor here.
For this, spot colors are the appropriate equivalent. But we aren't printing on paper. This is color anodized to aluminum, which will likely have a matte finish… but not exactly dull, it will still be shiny. So coated paper is probably the closest equivalent.
To confuse matters, Pantone has web pages for each, coated and uncoated, but not a plain "this is the color" page.

In this case, you can see that the colors look very different. On your screen, you are seeing an RGB light approximation of what an ink looks like applied to different paper stocks.
So the C is probably the best choice… but why 2 of the colors are listed with the C, and 2 of them are listed without is mind boggling, especially when there is such a big difference in how they look.
OK, rant over. Go about your day. 😉
