Dumb indeed.
In addition it illustrates the lengths the Cupertino company will go to in order to maximize profits.
It also reveals how successful they’ve been including very little ram on the base model which causes many to choose a more expensive model to have more memory.
Upselling is one of the companies many brilliant marketing tools.
They should increase the pro models to 15GB and have the standard/air at 12GB using 1.5GB chips. Move the e to 9GB. 12GB of RAM just isn't Pro and leaves little headroom for improved LLMs.

That’s the problem, people should be asking questions with inside their phones, because Apple is playing into peoples ignorance about tech, meanwhile people are forking money over for a 8 gb ram for the MacBook Neo when it should have been 16 gb

People said it for years, I know I did too, Apple always cheaped out on the RAM. Anyone who bought a 16 series should get their money back. What a bunch of scam artists. Vaporware not realizing that the phones didn’t even have enough RAM to support it. Or more likely, Tim Crook didn’t even care.
It’s no problem for me. My phone works just fine and im certainly not ignorant about tech.
Most should not worry that much about how much RAM. And this is from a very knowledgeable recently retired software engineer with decades of experience. What matters is whether the computer (or phone) can handle the workloads a user wants in a pleasant way at a price they can afford. So they should read reviews and ideally try one out in person to see what the experience is but if it works fine for their needs then it's fine. If mostly using email, web and maybe very basic video and photo editing (not creating a long, complex film) then they can get by on very little RAM which is a good thing given the high cost of RAM now.

The price increase is due to prices of all of the RAM and storage, not just the extra 1GB. Over the past year, prices for the kind of RAM that goes into iPhones has basically tripled. Apple has been holding their retail prices down as the component costs rose but now we are at the point where they can’t keep doing that and have to pass on the costs.

Great, Artificial Intellegence hype is making RAM more expensive and Apple Intelligence 'features' require more RAM, which in turn is making phones and other devices more expensive.
I miss the good ol days when we thought it couldn't any more ridiculous than Proof of Work crypto mining.
Fortunately my 'needs' are far and few between and I'm much better nowadays at ignoring my 'wants'.

You don't have to convince me. The comment was more about how they'll communicate this to the average buyer. It has an extra gig of RAM hence why its more expensive.

How did Apple communicate the June 25 price increase? Products received 0GB more RAM.
Apple doesn’t need to do anything because everyone has heard about the AI buildouts. Everyone knows hyper scalers are expected to spend $1T in 2027 in capex.

There hasn't been accountability at Apple since like 2011 when Scott Forestall was pushed out.
If there was accountability, the software wouldn't be such a buggy mess. Siri AI would've been polished and released years ago. Apple wouldn't be tied into so many lawsuits.
“What’s funny” is present tense, “most of them will” is future tense. Therefore, it is not possible yet to make the determination “funny” —unless the intention was to convey that the suspicion itself is funny. In any case, it would be possible to identify “everyone here last year” who “said they'd immediately disable/remove Apple AI” and then determine how many of them “vociferously complain” about the 9GB eventually. The investigation, however, would have to be conducted manually —unless MR adds an AI tool capable of such queries. Or —wouldn’t that be funny —Siri AI will be able do it.
But yes, among the people who rejected Apple AI last year will probably be an X number who will nonetheless lament 9GB iPhones as AI limiting.

What Apple should do and will do is two different things. The base iPhone 18 is being treated like a red headed step child at this point.
I simply don't get it. Why fans don't want to blame Apple for that when Tim Cook squeeze its suppliers like Micron when the CEO indirectly blame Apple for it?
