If this is true, the Iphone 18 will flop hard.

Lol because people in the market for the base iPhone are definitely basing their purchase decisions on whether they can customize Siri's expressiveness 😂

look, feelings, habits and price drive those sells buddy, most people dont know what RAM is and wont have heard about a random ai feature.

Because you can’t adjust the Siri voice?

I’m not sure anyone’s that bothered

Many people won't know that their iPhone 18 can't do everything. But some people will figure it out and when they learn that the brand new, latest and greatest device they bought doesn't run everything, they are going to be pissed.

I know we're in a RAM crisis, but this is cheap, Apple, very cheap. It's not a good look. And this is from a shareholder.

It’s actually very expensive, which is why every manufacturer is jacking up prices. And this would presumably be more about availability than about cost—there’s only so much RAM available, and Apple obviously prioritizes the higher-end phones.

If 18e get 9GB RAM sure why not but base 18 hell no. The only valid reason is if if launch MSRP is same as last year otherwise I would rather have a base 18 with 12GB ram for extra 50-100 but maybe that’s just me. Average consumer probably doesn’t care or understand.

Don’t underestimate RAM it’s in practice the first thing that make your phone less snappy to use or reliable at multitasking if you hold it for 3-6years.

Why?

iPhone X/XR = 3GB
iPhone 14/15 = 6GB

3GB is 2 x 1.5
6GB is 4 x 1.5
12GB is 8 x 1.5

All pretty normal so far.

But 9GB? Just weird: It’s also weird because why would they even bother? Is adding that miserable 1GB going to make a noticeable difference compared to an 8GB device?

1.5GB × 6 = 9GB

Too many people are still ignoring the economics of the current memory situation. It's part of the reason why high capacity configs of Mac mini and Mac Studio were deleted.

Hyperscalers are vacuuming the highest density dice, i.e. 2GB, 3GB, 4GB, 8GB dice. This means there is less fight and more supply of 1.5GB chips. Apple is going for high supply for their mainstream iPhone 18/e.

In all likelihood, 9GB is cheaper and/or easier to procure than 8GB RAM.

Might be only two features for now but think as and when more Apple Intelligence features are added, some of them will be available only on the Pro models going forward.
Some people may think that a positive thing. Not being able to run AI would certainly be for some.

Well not specifically for only Siri's expressiveness but I believe more because you would expect for this price at least a product supporting all features of their OS, not to be basically already limited/outdated at launch itself. I believe that gives a bad sign. But in all honesty people will most likely still buy it anyway but not as much as the base 16 or 17.

The UK is not in the EU remember.
And the EU doesn’t block anything: Apple can’t or doesn’t want to comply.
Weren't there some rumors they wanted to return to the EU? I believe I saw a poll or newsarticle recently most people regret the Brexit 10 years later and believe it had ruined the Britain economy more than it was pre-Brexit. Even though I think to also have seen some Europarlementariërs say that if that is the case they won't get the same deals anymore as they had pre-Brexit.

The product lines are getting a little more clarity over the years and it does make sense imo … iPhone and iPhone Neo consumer product with Basic AI and iPhone Pro and ultra with more advanced capabilities over the future update … I am curious to see where this will lead to and maybe iPhone 20th anniversary is the launch of a new pure AI iPhone to overcome what the AI competition is preparing (noticeably Ive with chat gpt phone and later screenless device) … exciting time ahead

What would be cool is if you could offload that processing to your mac over wifi/the internet. That'd give people a better reason to own both.
That would be an excellent compromise. They advertise Wi-Fi and cellular connections to be so advanced and low latency these days… why does all the processing need to be done on the phone?
