iPhone 2.0 Firmware (5A347) Available Early

I'm not sure how you got two dmgs. It should download as a single .ispw file. That's what I used to install.

I just played Super Monkey Ball. I suck at it.

fyi, it took me a while to download and install it. I tested it before I posted it on the site, so I didn't brick thousands of iphones. That being said, you should still do it at your own risk. The numbering thing bothered me a little, which is why I waited to post it. So there could still be some issues down the line, though I would suspect a reinstall would prob fix it, if this wasn't the "right" version.

Holy Cow...why can't Apple just make this live...if they are not ready by now then there is a problem.
 
downloading from different computer

i'm at work and normally i sync my iphone to my home mac, but I can't wait til the end of day to have this on my iphone. if i install 2.0 from my work pc, what do i risk? i should be able to just reinstall or update when i get home, right?

DON'T unzip the file. download the file, and rename it to a ".ipsw" file (since it downloads as a ".ipsw.zip" file.) you should see it turn from a zip file into a lego cube with an itunes/ipod logo on it. then hold down option (or alt) and click restore, select the .ipsw cube and continue.

i'm in the process of doing it, and it's taking a long time, so don't worry.

how do i get this to work? i downloaded it, then went into itunes. which disk image do i click? or which folder do i click?

Sometimes safari downloads it as a .zip mistakenly. If you just remove the .zip so it's just .ipsw, it works fine :) (as mentioned earlier in this thread)

edit: If you're seeing two disk images, you unzipped it, and you're doing it wrong. You do NOT need to unzip it. Just rename the file, even if Finder asks if you're sure you want to change the name.
 
Warning takes ages...... Took almost 20 minutes to the second! I couldn't believe how slow it was... but most of that was preparing the iphone for software restore.
 
Everything has been going smoothly for me, but the update is taking its sweet time, how long did it take yours Arn? Mine has been "preparing" for about 5 minutes now. :eek:
 
A note to iPod Touch owners:

1. This update will not work on your Touch (it causes problems upon installation).

2. The update for the Touch will cost $9.95, so it won't be available for free download like the iPhone update is. We'll probably have to wait until later today when the download is live.
 
Don't unzip the download.

iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw

That is the file you want to select.

Actually, that's slightly misleading. If you unzip it, the folder name is exactly that.

As mentioned previously, all you need to do is remove .zip from .ipsw.zip. Then it looks like a little lego plugin logo, and you'll be able to select in iTunes. If it shows up as a folder, delete that and rename the original file :)
 
hey i tried to instal also but now my $20 upgrade is gone. i've restored before and it automatically updated the apps for me but now it won't. any idea what i need to do?

My guess would be that since MobileMe is not 100% up and running yet, that they are holding on 2.0 software for the iPhone.

You know, in a day or so, this is all going to be so darn swanky!!! I can wait till tonight or tomorrow. My phone still work just fine today. :D

How many people do you figure are going to call in "sick" these next two days? Will Apple's sales match the lost productivity?

I've been away from home (an mostly from the internet) for several weeks and have to transfer many files off my 2 MBPs and then get them backed up before all these updates. I'm still on 10.5.3! Never been this far behind, but seldom have I been away from internet connectivity this long either.

I'm waiting for the official release, but love hearing about folks who get it all to work.
