Just curious, what time does apple usually put out their updates? Is it just a random time during the day, or is it midnight? The reason for my impatience is I just bought a bunch of new app's but I dont want to put them on my phone till after the update, because most likely they will crash my phone if I put them on now.

the stability of the applications always comes down to the individual developers.

REALLY?!?! So the fact that Apple has to accept developers into the program and approve EACH AND EVERY APP before it goes live, the responsibility, in your wacked opinion, falls solely on the developer?!?!?

Here's a clue: APPLE has the say to decide when ANY app is made available in THEIR store. If it doesn't work, it shouldn't be there.

When Jobs decides...

Basically Jobs sits there in bed, with his new (unseen MacBook Pro) with his Wireless Mighty mouse hovering over a 'send' button..
He cracks open a couple of tinnies, sticks on his favourite porno and when he's well and truly ready.. hits that send button

If an app causes my phone to crash, I don't use it.

So, how many users were offered their money back on apps that crashed? Oh, just "don't use" an app that i paid $9.99 for. Great solution! You must work in the iPhone dept in Cupertino with that kind of logic.

My solution

I used to have a slew of problems but it's fairly manageable now. Eventually it would hard reboot and lock on the loading screen. Put the Iphone into recovery mode and do a full reset. Then do NOT restore from a backup. You will lose previous SMS messages, pictures that are not synced, settings, etc. Then sync to get your apps, movies, music, etc back. Then trudge through getting the rest of the settings up and running. Also, I highly recommend not installing more than 20 apps. 30+ is when things go downhill very quickly. Just choose not to sync more than 20. I suspect with many apps there is data corruption. Hence the previous backup images being bad as well.

What Bugs? Luck of the draw?

Hate to say it but I must have lucked out.
And this isn't to rub it in, but just to add some conterbalance
to all the problems that people report.

I truly symphasize with those with major issues.

I think my iPhone, 16GB 3G, locked up once, and all it took was shutting it down and restarting.
I've never had safari crash,( and I have done some extended browsing).

And I've had no problems downloading and installing apps, 3g or wireless.
(Once I start downloading an app, I set the phone down until its done, -[I don't even look at it cross-eyed] - and once the app is done installing I power down and restart) Not one app crash.

I've got 32 apps installed but only have about 5GB of content, so I guess it's pretty lean.

I've only had two quirky incedents.
1 -Shortly after I got it, I couldn't hear callers. They could hear me however. I remembered I had just used the headphone jack for the first time so I tried plugging in the jack again and pulling it out. Never had the problem since.
2 - I never really had a problem with back ups until someone called me while performing a backup. It got dorked up, and the SMS keyboard lagged big time. But all I had to do was, shut down restart and wait for the ridiculously long backup to happen. Since then backups are only slightly longer than before, and the keyboard seems fine. And I did experience
Oh and after I loaded XP SP3 outlook won't sync anymore, but I chaulk that up to Windows.

I don't live in a big city so I don't have to deal with a lot of reflections, I'm in a main 3G corridor, so 3G has been pretty consistent.
I do usually power the phone down at night.

It's not all roses.

I do notice that if I turn on 3G and the network is down or signal is weak the iPhone will say "no service" instead of defaulting to edge. Kinda stupid, but I normally keep it on edge anyway unless I'm doing something data intensive, ie MAPS or surfing sans wireless.
And every once and a while Maps will be unresponsive. (usually when I really need it)
But these are minor very rare occurances that don't compare to the issues it seems some have faced.

Battery life, about 3.5 - 4hrs usage with 12 - 24 standby. I've never had a cell phone before so I can't compare. To me it's the price you pay for a tiny phone with a big sweet glossy display, and the processing power to make the most of it.

So my time so far with the iPhone has been pretty hassle free and to me the iPhone is not a heap as some have said. It's been a truly enjoyable experience. Enough so that I'm soon to buy a Mac for the first time after 20yrs of windows.

Cheers
