THE SECOND SPEAKER IS NOT A SPEAKER, CHRIST, READ YOUR MANUAL IT IS A MIC

Step 1: Relax
Step 2: Understand sarcasm
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit

I believe he was joking as after every firmware upgrade we have at least 2 memes with regards to people posted responses, "Snappier" and "My speakers are louder/2nd speaker is working!". :)

FWIW Field Test gave me -63 and i have full bars.

PS they seem to have revamped the field test menu

Dear retards who want MMS:

Take a picture. Email it to your friends PHONE NUMBER. They get it on their phone.

Sending an MMS is not that big of a deal, it is receiving the MMS from other people. The way ATT handles it is a URL with a unique login and password, and unfortunately, it does not work on Safari for the iPhone because the way it serves the image up is a flash interface. So I have to wait until a get to a computer to even look at the MMS. That is simply annoying.

And not everyone has email on their phone to send a photo.

Umm Okay-it that were true-seems like you drank the Apple Kool-Aide on that one...

Go back and read the SAME ISSUES when 2.0.2 was issued-the whole 'signal strength boost" appears to be a red herring in both 2.0.2 and 2.1-based strictly on the anecdotal evidence presented here.

They don't claim the update increases the signal strength, they specifically say it recalibrates the signal strength meter in the release notes.

Go back a few pages. It's not an option, it just "is". :)
Has anyone seen (or heard rather) the repeat SMS tones? I left a new SMS alert on the screen for a couple of minutes thinking it would beep again but nothing happened...

ok first of all I want to say this update is great and def appreciated. However backing up still takes forever and I cannot understand why apple added a new txt alert before other features that the whole world wants ?????? I haven't heard one complaint about somebody not having enough of an alert for their txt. But hey I have heard people talk about mms, blue tooth, copy and paste...etc.. I just don't understand the logic. But thanks for all the improvements still I hope they work well

At the risk of being yelled at by all of the copy-paste fans, repeating Alerts was my #1 missing feature...

Everyone wants different things...

Genius is nothing more than a commercial for more music to purchase!!!!

...and a way to track music trends.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing as it's all anonymous, but I think those are actually the two main goals.. rather than something users would actually find useful.

Apple is a business, they're going to find (or make) an edge whenever they can... the trick is not making it obvious. ;)

As for 2.1... I personally waited until everyone else upgraded to see results before putting it on my phone.
So to everyone that has upgraded and posted in the forums - Thank you! :)

yes I have. I sent myself a text from my other mobile. it dinged and buzzed. I never touched the iphone and approx 2 mins later it dinged and buzzed again

Yes, a triple click works, suggesting Apple's new headphones might work on the iPhone

Can confirm this too which is good cos that means i dont have to buy the headphones. I dont need the volume function since the iPhone has external volume rockers

Based on reading quite a few responses here-the update does not seem compelling-I am still at 2.0.1 (jailbroken). Doesn't seem like any reason to upgrade for me...

You are absolutely correct. Don't upgrade to 2.1. You are better off with your jailbroken version -nothing to see here;) Played with the upgrade for the last 3 hours and I'm really impressed;)

Users claimed it happened with this update. Just asking.

Its funny because I thought to start with that my screen looked a bit sharper and crisper but I think I was just getting a bit over excited.

God knows what will happen if turn by turn ever gets added. I will need to change my undercrackers.

There are too many idiots on this thread right now.

For the love of God:

* There is NO "setting" on the SMS alerts. It just happens if you don't view a text message.
* The yellow tint message was a JOKE by the OP.
* Your phone will not have faster backup until AFTER the update. Before and during the update it will continue to be slow because the UPDATE HASN'T BEEN APPLIED YET
* The 3G signal strength adjustment was to the DISPLAY of the signal. you will still have the same signal strength you had before the update - the difference is that the phone will show a higher number of bars for that, even though the signal itself has not changed.
* This update will do NOTHING for your speed. That is a function of the cellular network and not the phone.
* The 3G and Edge ICONS WERE CHANGED. They now do not have the boxes.
* There is NO SHAKE TO SHUFFLE in this update.
* GENIUS DOES WORK after applying the update. You may need to re-synch 2-3 x to get it to display.
* I know the thread is long, but at least READ BACK 4-5 PAGES or so.

I've updated my iPhone 3G to 2.1 (great improvement btw)
But Have anyone noticed how the 3G icon doesn't have the square icon around it? Mine just says 3G. Is this normal?

They don't claim the update increases the signal strength, they specifically say it recalibrates the signal strength meter in the release notes.

Interesting-I have not read the release notes-I do find it interesting that they claimed (when 2.0.2 came out) that it would address the issues of dropped calls and poor reception-and now they say something similar (all this is paraphrased of course by me).

So if what you say is true-it appears a deliberate attempt to make people think they are getting a better signal by manipulating the strength meter?!? Weird!
