I had to activate it in iTunes first and then sync my phone before I was able to get it to work on my phone.

I like Pandora application much better. I chose "Lean on Me" and Genius put YMCA by the Village People in the playlist. I had to hit edit 3 times before it got rid of it.

When you hit edit you should be able to remove a song from the playlist or even better, give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down like Pandora.

It's a free app and no I didn't write it but it's one of my favorite on the App Store. Apple did a lousy job ripping it off.

well, to apple's defense, pandora is drawing from a way larger universe of songs that what could possible fit on your iphone (and your computer, for that matter) so should be more accurate. however, yeah, i agree, pandora is better and i'll use it quite a bit more. i do like how genius scours my own playlist to find music i own that i haven't listened to, but the overall universe of songs is better at pandora.

I agree with most that 2.1 fixed some of the iPhone issues.

The 1 thing that it didnt fix is, the 3G connection. I talked on the phone for about 7 hours today and had 9 dropped calls. All well within the Kansas City area. Plus many times during the calls the phone would go from 3G to E and sometimes to roam. Sad stuff..

i got 6 hours usage today before it hit 10% left, well impressed!!!!

I think Apple tweaked the usage (%) left display or prompt just like they tweaked the display bars for the 3G giving a false impression or illusion that it is performing better than it actually is.

Unfortunately, I noticed absolutely no difference in battery performance since the update.

nope, 4-5 hours of usage is what i normally do, but I only get 1 day of standby before it dies

Man, that sucks.

By the way—and I apologize if this was answered in the first 60 pages :)—what's up with location services not turning on for you if you go into maps without it already being on? That's a pain. I wish they would just have it auto enable if you click it on maps and turn off when you exit maps. Wouldn't that make sense?

Also, pages load up much more quickly on WiFi and a little faster on 3G. Testmyiphone also agreed. Before WiFi felt like 3G. Now it feels like WiFi.

Every thing advertised for the "Fix" works as advertised with the exception of the battery.
Much more stable
Little to no lag when typing
Much better 3G reception. Tested both with Iphone Tech Mode and Testmyiphone.com

My battery life is as bad as it was but the phone (for me) is FINALLY AS STABLE AS 1.1.4.

I have location services turned off, BlueTooth turned off and have used the phone very little over the weekend and my battery is still 1/2 drained by the end of Friday and Saturday after charging overnight.

Thanks, I noticed far less lag time too. Can't tell for battery but you guys did. Great update.

I'm now sitting in the office at work, square mile in the City of London, and my browser will not load any pages despite having 5 bars on 3G, so I turned 3G off and the browser loads up straight away on Edge; What is going on with this phone, I'm in a strong 3G area, probably as strong as it'll get in the UK, my phone shows 5 bars for ***** sake, so what gives! I've done a reset, maybe I need to do a full restore.

Anybody else in UK finding that the update hasn't improved their signal and, if anything, has made it worse even though the bars on the screen have gone up?

The battery seems the same, although last night I ran it dry and gave it a full charge, so I'll know for sure by the end of the day whether the update has done anything for me in that area.

As I said in a previous post though, everything else that the update promised seems good.

does anyone else have this problem with 2.1?
after installing 2.1 all my text messages now say
"new text message"

i really like it was before when it the pop up would say

"contact name"
text message

I really like knowing who my text message is from with out having turning on SMS preview
I really hope apple fixes this

I think there's some kind of bug with the artwork

What i've notice is that sometimes it just show a black/blank artwork. But when i delete the song and put it back, the artwork comes alive again.

But after awhile it just become black/blank :mad:

Are you certain about the better 3G reception? Many (most) of the feedback in other forums like Howards indicate it's not any better. I agree with you on the battery though.

From my point of view before the 2.1 update I received no 3G signal what so ever in my house and about 2-3 bars at work (25 miles away from home). After I updated to the 2.1 firmware I receive anywhere from 3-5 bars of service in my house and a constant 5 bars at work. I also ran some speed tests and I'm receiving 1133kbps at home and 1500kbps at work. So in my opinion the update has corrected something on the phone for me to receive 3g signal in my house or AT&T has added more towers in my area, I believe it to be the software!!!

Whereas I clearly got at least 50% better usage, AND used 3G instead of EDGE. So you're "I think" is clearly wrong.

When the screen is locked? This is an obvious security feature. I'm sure you don't want you boss finding out that your GF wants to [insert something from a Kevin Smith movie] when he picks it up to play with it.

After reading the reports of this, I was dreading the update because I like the preview, too. But after I did the update, the preview didn't change. I can still see who the message is from and read the message (or at least the beginning of it) without unlocking and launching SMS. My mom also did the update and there was no change. Could this actually be a service provider issue? We're on Rogers in Canada....

I've only had one glitch so far. When listening to a Genius playlist just a few minutes ago, I got about halfway through the list of songs, then the iPod stopped playing for no reason. I hit play again, but the song would not start playing. I tried a different song from the playlist, and I also tried relaunching iPod and playing a song from the playlist, but it just wouldn't start playing again. Eventually I went into a different playlist and started playing a new song, which worked. I'm now playing a new Genius playlist and waiting to see if it happens again.

Can anyone that is in the beta for apple confirm that core location does have directional capabilities. I was hoping that google maps would reflect something that show direction you are moving.

The map is orientated to the north so if the little icon is moving down you are going south (left = west and right = east). I'm not sure why you would need a compass to figure that out?

Looks like Apple and AT&T want people to upgrade. They're sending out text messages again.

Maybe, maybe not. I was using WiFi 100% of the time. All I know is that my battery life has NOT improved; however, the battery icon didn't change from full until much later which if this continues, proves to me, anyways, that this is all a deception on Apple's part. Only time will tell as other users will post their experiences.

Keep in mind though, if many people's experiences are true, the full bars don't mean that their is a signal or the signal is strong. This is what is ticking some people off about the latest update ie. the bars are an illusion to the signal strength.
