I keep reading that the "genius" feature is now on my itunes on the phone... where... I don't see it anywhere. Thanks.

Something to add to the update on the article if it hasn't already been mentioned is triple clicking the iPhone mic now moves back a song, as was mentioned for the iPod Touch during the speech. Love it.

It should appear when you tap the album artwork on the "Now Playing" screen. It looks like an Atom symbol, just tap the Atom and your good.

When playing a song, tap the screen, on the bar that comes up is the genius icon (in the middle), tab this and your playlist will be created

36 hours and counting

well it's been since about 8 Friday that I last charged this thing. I've been using it much more heavily than normal, just to see what happens. Day 3, still have 1/3rd charge. Nice.

Is anyone else noticing signficant battery life? I would never before keep my phone in 3G mode because my battery would drain in about a day.

I've been in 3G mode for 24 hours now and I still have more than 1/2 my battery left!

I don't see significant battery life at all, seems about the same to me. Everything else seems to be top notch, battery life not so much.

well.. whenenver I had 3G on the battery wolud only last for a day: unplug in the morning.. use it during the day and it was dead late at night when at home.

then I decided to keep 3G off while not using Safari.. it improved quite a bit.. fro 1 to 2 days.

then updated to 2.1: turned on 3G on saturday morning.. and the batttery didn't even last a whole day.. half way thru saturday I had to plug it in.

So, I guess i'm in the other few users who won't see significant improvement. Bummer..

"Building a Toyota Prius causes more environmental damage than a Hummer that is on the road for three times longer than a Prius. As already noted, the Prius is partly driven by a battery which contains nickel. The nickel is mined and smelted at a plant in Sudbury, Ontario. This plant has caused so much environmental damage to the surrounding environment that NASA has used the ‘dead zone’ around the plant to test moon rovers. The area around the plant is devoid of any life for miles."
This was debunked some time ago.

lipstick on a pig

Battery life seems improved, but it will take a few days to know

Thanks to thevusers who posted an objective way to measure signal strength by dialing *3001#12345#*. (please correct me if I typed that incorrectly). I used it to test signal strenghth many times at home and work both before and after the 2.1 update. Although the phone sows more bars, the actual signal strength is the same. This part of the update is just "lipstick on a pig" so far to me.

so far my battery is the same at best. Maybe worse actually. I'm not a 'power' user at all. The only thing I can think of is I get poor reception in my apartment. Maybe that is draining my battery. I'm on edge most of the time, I rarely see 3G on my screen. My reception seems a little better though.

I don't care too much, I still love this phone.

You can't. Sorry

:( Awww, that's not nice. I wouldn't mind it if it made a slightly different sound so that I knew it was just the repeat alert and not another new text since I usually see the SMS preview and leave it at that.

Thanks for the response. I was searching and searching all of the settings.

I think the Native Americans might disagree with your assessment.

America was conquered, not discovered. But as a Cherokee, I will take my iphone over a tomahawk anyday. I love technology.

And the Cherokee Nation wasn't violent, were they? Constantly at war with other tribes over land, resources, etc? Completely annihilated the existing native peoples in North America millenia before the Europeans came, correct?

It's just that the English/French tribes had better weapons and tactics.

Now back to the iPhone discussion...can we use an iPhone as a tomahawk?

Your wrong. Tribes fought, on every continent, but annihilation is the wrong word. The Cherokee nation didn't wipe out all other tribes.

I was responding to America being 'discovered'. But if you want to discuss violence and land grabs, we can grab a blanket laced with small pox and find a comfy spot. :D Better weapons, Yes, better tactics? You wore red and stood in a straight line. You have a funny definition of tactics.

But an Iphone tomahawk sounds dangerous. I already wonder how many people have accidentally flung their phones across the room using the phonesaber?

I wonder if some of you guys just have defective batteries in your phone. My 3G has continually been able to hit usages of 4-5 hours with nearly 3 days of standby. It's looking to be even better with this update. Are you guys just using your phones that much more?

For the record, I am not trying to get political. All my posts are in good fun.

I don't mean to pull everyone away from the tech conversations. I just couldn't hold back after the third America discovered post. :D

can I skip 2.02 before installing 2.1?

After reading all the threads, I skipped on updating to 2.02 until 2.1 came out. I did download it but never installed it.

Now iTunes wants me to update to 2.02 before I can seemingly get to 2.1.

Does anyone know if I delete the 2.02 update from the Iphone Software Update folder, restart itunes, will it go out and get the 2.1 update?

Or, is it necessary to update to 2.02 prior to 2.1?

Thanks.

Is it that big of a deal? Just update the thing.
