I really wish there was a cancel-button for text messaging. I always mess up and hit "send" instead of a P, O, or I. Once the text is sending, there's no way to stop it!

(or how about those times when you realize you're sending a text to the wrong person) Once the ball is rolling, there's no stopping!!

Customized alerts for email messages (e.g. high priority vs normal)
Ability to send high priority emails
Better push that does not destroy the battery
Ability to forward emails without downloading the entire message (e.g. BES function)
Canceled meetings actually come off calendar
Search email and calendar

Lets see some improvements

how about seeing emails in landscape instead of being locked in portrait!

oh and COPY & PASTE!!!

The trick is to fill in the content before the recipients.

MMS & Copy paste of course
Landscape text
Landscape mail
Coverflow that only shows the category that you are in (e.g. genre, artist, playlist, podcasts)
Ability to delete Podcasts
Ability to have deletions on iPhone affect next iTunes synch.
Ability to not synch already watched video and podcasts
iTunes over Edge/3G (even if limited downloads as per AppStore)
More message/email tones

I hope it will have stereo bluetooth and copy and paste, but that probably wont be there for a while since people are still reporting problems with 2.1, so they better fix those problems before they make more

There's a lot of the same requests in this list, that have been well documented, and a few that probably haven't. Some are realistic goals, some are fantasy.
In no particular order:

* Flash video link support in Safari (like You Tube).
* Landscape Notes, Maps, SMS & Email.
* Passcode lock certain image, video & misc folders.
* Ability to choose to save streamed videos it fully caches (storage space permitting).
* Bluetooth non-DRM files to other phones/devices.
* A2DP stereo Bluetooth.
* The Remote app to allow Wi-Fi streaming of audio & video (maybe even photo) content from the computer to the iPhone.
* A 'bucket' in iTunes and on the device to save attachments/misc files to (via emails & web).
* Use volume buttons as camera shutter (great for self portraits, party pics, etc).
* More camera software options.
* Lists: search and sort by, in all lists
* Playlist/Category specific Cover Flow.
* Copy & paste (in all text input situations).
* Video capture (even a basic one, to enable you to upload your videos via the YouTube app).
* YouTube: Make it as functional as the mobile site (accounts, comments, Ratings, etc).
* Email: A 'Select All' option, to aid mass delete/move.
* SMS: Option to delete individual texts within a 'conversation'.
* MMS: It should be the same procedure as it would be to email an image (even if the image quality is reduced).
* Option to place wallpaper on the home screens (faded or full opacity).

coverflow for contacts would be pretty cool.

If they do this, I hope they do it better than coverflow for music. Every time I bring it up, it starts on the same old first album again. Dunno why it doesn't remember where I was last time.

iPhone 2.2 Firmware: What should it include?

definetly copy and paste in texts and forwarding and the ability to send files by bluetooth all standard things these days to make a great thing better and video recording :D please steve jobs we love this phone so if you sort this you will vanquish the rest:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

Turn by Turn Navi please!

I have the old iPhone and I built in a dock in my car so that I could control all aspects of it without having to buy a $500 head unit. What would my my life perfect would be for turn by turn navigation to be available on the the iPhone 3G. I would then upgrade and have every device that i would want in my car, on my phone , without any other devices on my dash (like a tomtom or something).

So please if anyone at apple is reading...
TURN-BY-TURN NAVIGATION PLEASE!!!!!! YOU WILL INCREASE SALES MAKE EVEN MORE MONEY THAN YOU ALREADY HAVE! WHICH I DONT EVEN WANT TO THINK ABOUT!

And more...

1) Spotlight Search - a proper all-encompassing search icon on the home screen. Email, Calendar, Contacts, Phone Call Log, Notes, SMS, iPod Media, Photo metadata etc. would all be searchable if so configured in iPhone Settings. It's currently a pain to find specific email messages or meetings. I really miss this from my BlackBerry, and I think it is long overdue on iPhone especially if you're a business person.
2) Notes and To-do Task item synchronization with Outlook, iPhone, MobileMe, and Leopard. I would like to finally stop using Outlook and migrate completely to Mac. MobileMe could be advertised as a great Outlook to Mac data migration conduit if this all synchronized. To-do/Tasks would also be searchable on iPhone using Spotlight (see #1 above). Again, I really miss this from my Blackberry/Outlook.
3) Copy/Paste...seriously.
4) Local file storage to save documents, also with synchronization with the MobileMe iDisk. I would love to have access to certain documents when I'm on the go or out of network coverage area.
5) Dial phone numbers in Calendar items. This would be very helpful in case I'm running late to a meeting, LOL!
6) Improved phone call log that also shows the length of the call.
7) Mark email messages as read/unread.
8) Manage email folders on iPhone.
9) The ability to display a personalized owner/contact message on the screen when the iPhone is locked. I have twice lost and subsequently recovered my BlackBerry because the people that found it saw the onscreen message and called and left me a message. My shortsightedness/bad holster, and their honesty earned them a cool $100. There are decent people out there who would like to return lost property.
10) Remote wipe from the MobileMe website in the unfortunate event where the iPhone is lost or stolen. Remote wipe should both optionally PIN lock the SIM card to prevent usage, and leave intact the personalized owner/contact message on the locked iPhone screen should a decent person wish to return a lost iPhone.
11) Add additional meeting attendee(s) to existing meeting in the Calendar.
12) Ability to add multiple files/photos (from local storage/camera roll) to a single email message.
13) Ability to forward a text message.
14) Nike+iPod support using the dock connector receiver like the iPod nano. I have my iPhone with me when I'm out for a walk or run, so I'd rather not have to take an iPod with me when there's one built into the phone. Let me worry about running my battery down if this is the concern.
15) MMS, although I doubt this will ever be added.

I hope the good folks from Apple sees this. The majority of these items would improve my productivity. Thanks for all the hard work put into giving us iPhone. I love using my iPhone, but numbers 1 and 2 above are my biggest concerns as I'm trying to migrate completely from PC/Outlook/Blackberry to Mac/iPhone. I read an article where supposedly AT&T sales people were recommending BlackBerry for email warriors instead of iPhone. Let's put that to rest by Macworld San Francisco 2009.

Be well everyone.

Cheers,

ITGuy

Call List with Sent, received and lost calls with date and duration.

quite hugging the apple tree.

you are not going to sit there and convince me that it is better to manually browse through a playlist as opposed to just typing a couple letters in.

I don't need to. Your inability to use the system already in place efficiently is not debatable.

Text Messaging - Addition of forwarding, copy and paste, shortcuts for sentences, something to track the number of characters used, time stamping for all messages.

Addition of MMS obviously. As well as the ability to send files via bluetooth. If Apple wants to stop us sending music couldn't they simply allow only user created content to be sent?

Addition of a video camera and more functionality for it.

Further integration between applications. Like links to send a text to a number received in an email.

The ability to remove apps which were pre-installed, I personally don't want stocks cluttering my iPhone...

Lots of other things probably, but I've only had it for a day so far...

Not gonna happen

Look guys, the thing is that nothing is perfect at launch, but apple im really let down by you. The iPhone is a truly revolutionary device that you aren't letting it get to its full potential. You have had over 1 year to correct all the errors people complained about since launch. And i'm sure that apple has their people constantly checking these forums for ideas, but big corporations don't have any common sense. They haven't listened to us.

-You have no MMS- I have been with the iPhone since a week or two after the original launch back in '07, I currently have a 3G 8GB, and as a kid i love to send pics and you don't allow that. Sure you can target business men, but with your new low price target kids too.

-No option to forward- you dont let us forward texts such as stupid chain mails, or something funny someone else said to a friend.

No cancel option- There is no option to cancel a message if you send it to a wrong person or you typed the wrong thing to a wrong person.

No iTunes over 3G/EDGE- So we can go on the appstore on 3G or EDGE but not iTunes. Seriously apple. Major screw up. Most songs aren't over 10MB so why can't we download the ones that are under 10MB over 3G/EDGE if we can do it on the App Store

Bluetooth- I know you have it but zune can listen to music through their bluetooth headphones, why not iPhone?

Video Capturing- The iPhone was supposed to be an all in one device, but I cant record a video. I always catch a friend doing something funny and I would like to record it.

Landscape Texting- They have apps for emails but not texting, why don't you support it, it can let me have less typos, type faster, and make my friends shut up about how the keyboard is too hard to text on.

Nice add-ons
Google street view would be nice to keep up with the competitors (G1)

A wireless sync would be cool too.

Using my iPhone as a router- There was a $10 app in the store, but i wan't to be able to have this since you cancelled it, I am in the car a lot, and web browsing on my com would be nice, not on my phone, i'd rather have my phone than a stupid AT&T wireless card

Now i believe i have said most basic things that people would like to make their iPhone a more full phone. I mean come on. free phones have MMS and iPhone doesn't. But although everyone requests these features... Apple being the idiots that they are will not listen to their customers about what they want to improve their product.
PROVE ME WRONG APPLE!!!!!!!!

The ability to mark emails as read! - I like to take advantage of this feature with emails that take a while to load, for instance, some email advertisements that I sign up for. It's not something I can't live without, but it would be nice.

Push - I don't necessarily need it. I might not even use it, but I know that the majority of the iPhone's users would, which is why it needs to happen as soon as possible.

MMS - I know we may never get it, but I feel like the iPhone would be the first phone in which I would really take advantage of MMS. Besides, many of my friends don't have email on their phones... and if they do, they still send things via MMS. I'm in college, so MMS is pretty prevalent. I realize that many people WOULDN'T use MMS, so I'm not going to count on it. I'm fine without it, but I would like to be able to use it.

Copy/Paste - To be honest, I would very rarely use it, but it would come in handy when I got a phone number in a text and wanted to save it without calling it. Plus, without MMS, it would be nice to copy and paste those ridiculous codes. I understand that people in a business setting need this badly!

Deleting/Forwarding/Timestamp on Individual Texts - I hear a lot of people asking what we have to hide if we want to delete individual texts. I don't have anything bad to hide -- sometimes I just want to delete a certain text for whatever reason! I think I should be able to do it. (Like I said, I'm young, so my friends and I have most of our conversations over text. Sometimes there is stuff that is said that I would prefer wouldn't be in my inbox forever. And some of the drunk texts I receive... I definitely want to delete some of those...) As for forwarding, I hate those stupid SMS forwards and do not condone them, but I miss being able to forward a text to a friend to ask what they think. (Or forwarding those drunk texts I receive to a girlfriend so we can laugh about it!) As for timestamp, I just feel it could come in handy sometimes. I haven't gotten able to download 2.1 yet (my regular computer isn't working), but it seems like Apple has introduced repeating text notifications -- which was my only other complaint about the text messaging. Good job, Apple!

Video record - This will likely not ever happen, which is fine because I have never used it on my other phones. I have a digital camera, so I rarely even use the iPhone's still camera. However, because the iPhone is supposed to be an all-in-one device, I think a lot of people would really take advantage of this feature. Sure, the camera isn't wonderful, but it's a cell phone... and my cell phones with less impressive cameras have still offered video record. It would also be cool to be able to take videos with the iPhone and upload them to YouTube. That probably isn't even possible now, but I hope that is a possibility someday soon.

Bluetooth music transfer - My friends on Blackberrys use this all of the time. I get jealous. :) I know we won't get this, though!

It would also be cool to have something like Blackberry messenger, but I won't hold my breath. I also doubt I would ever use this feature.

I realize that Apple probably wants to target business users, which is why I feel that most of these things won't happen. However, the iPhone is incredibly popular in my age group, and these are the things my age group use. I can live without them, but I would like to see iPhone have some of the little, simple features that my other phones have had.

To be honest, though, I'll be fine with my iPhone if 2.1 truly does fix all of the lags and the bugs. I'd much rather them fix the important stuff before adding new features.

ME ME ME ME I I I I I ME ME ME MEMEME

- Make GPS work 100% of the time
- Copy + Paste
- Disable auto-correct (already did this)
- MMS
- Sync notes
- Landscape mode in mail and notes

1) cut & paste
2) cut & paste
3) cut & paste
4) cut & paste
5) turn off predictive text
6) make it useable as a storage drive/option to save files from emails and email said files or make mm idisk available.
7) nearly every feature ppl here are asking for has been available for windows mobile for years. Apple, iPhone isn't revolutionary. Get over yourself and get this device on par with what's out there.

Firmware 2.2 needs to include the following:

1) Fix to the Mail.app - needs to be able to have "push" that works.
2) Wallpaper - needs to have the abilty to have a wallpaper behind icons
3) Camera - zoom feature in camera
4) Copy and Paste - even though i won't be using it too often ... this is for all you guys out there that really want it.

KrayzieKray

:apple: :D :apple:

Does anyone know when 2.2 might be coming out? Its been more then a month I believe since 2.1 came out. How many beta releases did 2.1 go through before they launched it? We are in beta 2 of 2.2 and it seems to be taking forever...

Some one email Steve about 2.2 release and ask him (or who ever it really is) when the release date for the 2.2 firmware really is.

idea's

Emailing with landscape keyboard.

Email notification box for new incoming messages when screen is locked.(just like with text messages)

Changing the incoming mail notification sound.

Push schedule: on at business hours and off or every 1 hour(custom) in the weekend or when not working. Just like windows mobile can.

Disable forwarding notification box(es) when calling. this is very very annoying. When i want to use DTMF or Hands free i always have to tap the message forwarding. I frkn know that my call's are being forwarded when im calling so don't tell me every-time i Dial a number im not stupid.
There must be another way to tell me that without having to tap every-time.

Scheduled flight modus on/off. Automatically turn off the phone at night an turn it on at down.
