Hold on,

If you can now download podcasts from the cellular network under 10mb, what's stopping apple from allowing us to download songs from the cellular network which are at avg 4mb???

any thoughts??

Stupid record companies and their licensing and contracts
Thats whats stopping them...

Yeah, this steals nothing. I keep on clicking my texting icon and for some reason, I still can send pictures texts. What gives?

Seriously, everything may seem smoother and less buggy, but that is something we should have received long ago. I'm sorry, maybe I shouldn't take a properly running phone for granted. I think too many people are setting the bar too high for these updates.

If you expect any software developer in the remotely foreseeable future to deliver bug-free software, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. There's just no way to do it with current methodologies.

I suppose a fundamental rethinking of how things are developed could change that; for example, if a practical automated theorem prover was created (requires solving one or more of the millenium problems...), then we might be able to prove the correctness of programs.

volume control when locked

He's talking about when the iphone is locked and you double tap the home button, there is now a volume bar with the ipod controls and the volume rocker works.:D

I like that my street view screencap made the article on the main macrumors page :)

Is it possible to have the street view screen cap oriented the correct way in your camera roll. Obviously, once it's on the comp you can rotate 90* counter clockwise. But can you rotate in iPhone?

The most important update in 2.2 is the supposed reduced frequency of dropped calls, specifically:
"Decrease in call set-up failures and call drops"

Can anyone confirm this after some use? Anything changed?

valid question...especially since they updated the "you can't download songs over cellular network" page to include info about podcasts

You can now take screenshots of the lock screen. And when getting a text with the preview setting off, the number shows up on the lock screen.

While nothing earth-shattering was released in this update, I think it was a great one for improved stability in some apps and improved quickness in the phone in general. While I still want those missing features, good job Apple in making this amazing phone even better.

Congrats on the screencap. You have made a very nice summary regarding the update! I love the public transportation directions addition to google maps. This will help me a lot in the future!

Good job apple!

Other things not noted in the release notes

In each category in the app store, apps can be sorted by top paid, top free, and release date.

Also, the phone seems overall much snappier, and better on response. No delays in Maps waiting for the keyboard to come up. Also, in maps, you can see buildings shapes and heights like in the real google maps. Look at New York, New York and zoom in on map style

I have a new iPod touch... what gives with no street view?

I don't see street view nor public transportation and walking information.

Another New Feature...

The buttons for posting a review and reporting a concern have a new look, but, also, the App Store now has support for multiple app screenshots. :D

That has always worked that way.

You can now take screenshots of the lock screen. And when getting a text with the preview setting off, the number shows up on the lock screen.

I was able to do that before.

well obviously you can rotate the phone to view it the proper way....but as for saving the screencap in landscape orientation, I don't believe you can do that on the phone itself
