Interesting. I guess it didn't make sense for an app called "iPod" on the Touch since the whole device was an iPod, but it seems that it took several releases before they made both devices work the same way.

If I recall correctly, Videos was always separate on the Touch.

Better phone

The iPhone 2G is a better designed phone then some androids, mostly of that same age. But the iPhone does set a benchmark for material quality.

Everyone thinks as the iPhone grows the better it becomes, but sometimes the original is just as good in different ways sometimes.

I've got not only the iPhone 5, an iPhone 6 pre-ordered at 12:31 am. I also the iPhone 2G and the 3G and still think the 2G was a little better

You must not have had a white iPhone 3G... I did, and mine was riddled with cracks that were not caused by any damage I did to it. The plastic on those things was crap. I'm so glad Apple moved away from it.

I had a black one. It was perfect. The 4 and 5 iPhones I've owned both had hardware issues..

Yeah, my i4 had serious issues, too. Antennaegate was real. The i5's biggest problem for me was that damned flaking iodized metal.. I'm very, VERY hopeful they fixed that.

I got mine a cool case.

Definitely. I already am. My students don't remember a time without the internet, let alone iPhones. I teach 7th grade and they all have cell phones... I didn't get a cell phone until I was an adult.

You probably had one of these back when they were cool:

Mostly unrelated, but I loved the plastic form and shell on the 3G models.

The iPhone 3G was my first iPhone, but I can't agree with that. I think it was by far the worst iPhone design and cheapest in terms of quality of materials in the iPhone's history thus far and I suspect that it will probably stay that way.

I really wish I hadn't given my OG iPhone to my old ex girlfriend. I also lost an old white 3G somewhere. My iPhone 5 is still holding strong Though lol.

After upgrading to NEXT with AT&T, I doubt i'll need to use my iPhone OG again for a substitute phone while I wait for my new phone (after I sell my previous one), but I think I'll always keep it around as a back-up :)

It was a great iPhone and its OS was 5 years ahead of its time like SJ mentioned back in 2007. It probably still has one of my fav designs and build quality ever on any phone.

I actually bought a second hand 2G for $90 back in 2011 the day SJ passed away. Battery after four years was still rock solid. Better ergonomics than my 4. It could fit in my Nexus One case as the dimensions were near twins. Unlocking it was super easy. Still, after maybe 8 months I sold it to a relative for nearly the price I got it for.

I couldn't download any newer apps as it still was stuck on 3.1.3. It lagged quite a bit. RAM was too low. Every time I talked on the phone while receiving a text, the touchscreen would go unresponsive. Maybe before 2011, it could still hold its own. But after three years use, it started to show its age in both software and hardware that it started to become useless. This thread would make sense to me more if it was created back in 2010.

How much is AT&T service now? When I had them with my first iPhone it was 120+ a month for unlimited data and I'm not sure about extra and mins.

I'm an unlocked/straight talk guy. $50 is a great deal to use unlimited AT&T service. I have been thinking about checking out Verizon's $60 2gb plan since I have wifi at home and work I usually don't use very much of my data up.

I pay 120 a month for 10 gigs, unlimited txt and talk on 2 lines. I'm sure there might be better deals out there, but not for me. I'll pay 42.50 a month for 20 months on my new i6+ but now that I'm using NEXT, I'll upgrade on each cycle.

I look back when I first got one such an unbelievable breakthrough in technology so awesome to be looking up weather and listen to music and have it all this functionality right in your phone. Those were the days...

Looking now at poor attempts of Samsung harassing Apple supposedly copying the screen size and quoting poor dead Jobs, morons without the iPhone or SJ they wouldn't even have a smartphone they've surely ballsily been busy bragging about!

The iPhone really was a great phone back in the day. I always wonder if it was as slow then as I feel it is now.... I feel like it's drastically slower than I remember it. The constant upgrades (3G, 4, 5) I guess have taken their toll on my perceptions.

Mine still works. Yes the software and hardware and ancient by technological standards. But, if you install a 2.2.1 (hell, 3.1.3 can even do it) build in that sucker, it'll do most of the stuff a cheap Android can barely do.
