Last night I attended the Live Diggnation event in Austin, Texas at SXSW, where Kevin Rose confirmed through his sources that iPhone 3.0 would have Copy and Paste.

He said it worked like this... you would press and hold a word and a Magnifier type bubble would appear with quotes around the word. Move the quotes around what you want selected and then you can press Copy.

Also confirmed no MMS for this release.

Confirmed that there would be no background apps, but he says that what Apple has coming will wipe away any advantages that Palm has touted with its Pre handheld.

Also confirmed no video due to a hardware limitation with the NAND memory that Apple uses. The amount of writing and IO to the memory could cause issue with the phone hardware, so it's out of the question.

You can see this all on the Diggnation that will air next week.

Let me make sure I understand this.

Copy and Paste? Check.

MMS? Nope.

Video? Nope.

Background Apps? Nope.

So where on earth is the "+more" part?

Seems like he is saying all the rumored stuff is NOT coming to the new firmware.

I mean, they surely are not going to go from 2.2 to 3.0 and only bring Copy and friggin Paste to the table?

Right?

Sorry, maybe that's not the proper way to say it, I just wanted to get the point across that there was more info in this than just him confirming Copy & Paste.

People in the crowd were yelling out features, so he answered the big ones... like MMS and Video and Background Applications... he didn't have any other insight into it, but I'm pretty sure that Apple has more in store for us on Tuesday than just Copy and Paste, they don't usually make big point releases without them (again, usually don't...)

Sounds like your going to have to purchase the 2009 iphone this summer to get more than copy and paste.

Would you please clarify what you mean by videos. Confused.

TIA.

Kevin Rose?

Google how wrong he has been about the iphone before.

Then continue to ignore Kevin Rose on this and other matters...

Heck, at least he's not the only one with high expectation. I believe we'll only get one of those things (Copy & Paste). Probably no MMS, no video...and probably background in June/July when the phone comes out. They probably won't mention it next week...but we shall see.

Apple always disappoint me, so my expectations are LOW.

What planet do you live on? His last prediction was dead nuts, right on.

- Revamp of entire iPod line.
- Small cosmetic changes to Touch, Nano to see significant redesign (see pic).
- iPods to see fairly large price drops to distance itself from the $199 iPhone.
- iPod touch 2.1 software, iPhone to get update very soon after.
- iTunes 8.0 ("it's a big update w/new features").

Gizmodo is saying that Rose said no MMS and video, but did not say that background applications was a definite no. Either they left that part out or it's not a part of the rumor.

He's been right and wrong, but lately he's been very right. Like when he told us days in advance about the new genius features in iTunes, or when he modeled what the new iPod nano would look like. I'm going to believe him on this one, especially since the way he said copy and paste would work wasn't awkward like other concept designs or even the jailbroken method.

Copy and paste would be great. Video recording would be nice, but I really just want to see some of the basics that this phone should've had in the first place like voice dialing. The apps for this are a waste of time. If I'm going to 1. Open a voice dialing app, 2. take the phone out of it's holder in the car and put it up to my mouth, 3. Say a name and then 90% of the time have to pick one of 3 different choices, I'll just go to my contact list instead. I miss my old Blackberry Curve and the "Say a command" voice coming through my bluetooth in my car so much every single time I have to make a call. Seems to me there's a real potential for a liability case there. We HAVE to use bluetooth while driving and the most advanced phone around has to have a number of steps that make you have to take your eyes off of the road for a call?...... crazy!

so lets recap:

-iphone 3.0 = palm pre features
-iphone 3.0 will supposedly not have mms or video recording

yea, that makes sense.

Copy and Paste will be nice but by the sound of it, i'm not to sure how it works. Can you go into more detail about it? What if we need to copy more than just a quote.
Will this be possible?

this is crap..they arent gonna jump from 2.2.1 to 3.0 just for c/p..last time they went from 1.x.x to 2.0 and we got an appstore, which was HUGE..this update will be much bigger than just copy/paste (which is seemingly big for apple at this stage, but thats besides the point)

You know what would go great with copy and paste? iWork.

Agreed. I think we're going to see a significant tweak to the UI (not a completely new one, mind you) to help manage apps better. As has been said before, swiping from screen to screen is just not efficient. I see some sort of folder system being implemented to up the limit on the number of apps that can be installed.

Beyond that, my crystal ball is blank. Personally, C&P is a luxury I can live without. Same with flash and video recording and many other feature people continuously cry over. Give me something fresh that I don't see coming. I'll be happy with that.

i have video recording (Cycorder) and Copy & Paste right now (Clippy) on my iPhone right now

Wow! That's amazing! Is it because you jailbroke your phone? Something entirely new that no one has ever heard of?!??! You're so cool! OMGBBQ

(Apple's implementation of copy/paste sounds much better than clippy)

No video?

Surely they could at least give a better sensor, so Kyte, Qik etc could work?

Sounds a lame excuse.
