Does the iPhone even have voice dialing for hands free operation? I had that as far back as the mid-90s on my Nokia brick phone (small brick that is). :)

You can forget all your fancy schmancy flamboyant requests. All I want... Really, all I want is the ability to forward on all of the smutty SMS jokes that I get....

3rd Party Apps

I'm more interested in the third party applications that they will highlight, they have had other companies demo apps at every iphone software event since it was released so I'm really pumped for it.

My wish: Slingbox, because it's due by the end of the month and I think they could really impress people with a demo of live tv on tuesday

My second guess? Either Tiger Woods 10 or Need For Speed from EA because EA usually gets a spotlight and these two games have been on the way for awhile

Also, I definitely think that they will be announcing that $20 an app premium store that was rumored a little while ago, I think they are starting to get bothered by the number of crap apps, this is just my two cents

Sound off?

What does that get anybody? How many $20 apps have you bought? How many aps are even WORTH $20? $20 iphone games? Who does that benefit?

Apple is getting stupid. They haven't even fixed syncing of Notes and ToDo list from within its own core applications. We'll probably get more eye candy and faster, easier way to spend money on iTunes.

All I want is ONE feature: call blocker DAMMIT!

E.g., allow calls only from those in the address book. Now how hard is that to incorporate???

To be honest, these features would be nice, but I would like to see a complete overhaul on the SMS app. I think the "chat" layout is worthless and limiting. Of course an option to switch between formats would be more or less expected, but I am sick of not being able to forward text messages, or save them, or anything like that. Its also a giant pain in the butt to send a message to multiple contacts.
MMS and C&P can wait in my opinion.

- Folders on springboard.

That'd be amazing.

I disagree with this. I have only four pages of apps, so maybe I'm a light user. But I have no problem with the current navigation scheme. It's simple for me to flick between screens. With folders, I'd wind up with something more like a Windows Start Menu. I'd have to jump from one menu system into another.

They need to include options to have different formats and layouts to give the users not only a sense of customizablility but to have theirs be different from the next persons.

The problem is that companies like EA aren't developing and releasing major titles with full functionality because they aren't going to pour their resources into an app that they know that they won't sell on the current app store model.

On the other hand, everybody that owns a PSP has purchased 20 30 and 40 dollar games, so if they want to make this a major gaming platform with fully functional games they need to allow more expensive apps to stand out on the app store

Possible Games and Apps that could be a part of this $20 premium store?
1. Need For Speed
2. Tiger Woods
3. Slingbox (It's 30 on blackberry, and could be more on the iPhone)
4. Madden?
5. Metal Gear Solid, which was rumored to be nearly complete months ago
6. Microsoft Office, or an Apple Office

All I know is if it tethers, it better be free. There's no way iphone users should be charged extra for something the phone already does on it's own. It's like having a vacuum cleaner for your house, but if you want to use it to vacuum your car and not your home then the Con Ed will charge you because your getting more use from it than they thought you would. In turn they try to find a way to capitalize off of your satisfaction. AT&T is ridiculous. I would love having a video conferencing feature that was speculated for so long as well along with the obvious cut and paste and document editing. The thing is Apple creates great stuff, but I am afraid we might end up paying to use every little feature on the device(s) coming out because of AT&T's greed.

Delete All Text Messages

PLEASE!!!!!! I get tons a day as a systems engineer, and have no time to delete them all.

I could really care less about the cut and past. Yes it would be nice, but I seem to work around it.

I'd like to see the iphone have capability to accept an .ics file from iCal. also, have the ability to record multiple greeting messages and pick which one to use. "I'm out for a run, back in 45 minutes" "I'm in a meeting, I'll get back to you soon" etc.

Should be fun on Tuesday either way.

- MMS: Possible to do through an application. Has, in fact, already been done. There's a fantastic native MMS application on the UK AppStore. Besides, I think people have become used to not having MMS. It's not a big deal any more, and if the predictions that smartphones will account for 50% of the market by 2012 are correct, it's going to be less and less significant.

Those MMS apps don't work with ATT

- Tethering. This actually is likely IMO. Apple's laptops are their flagship products. It makes sense that they'd like to improve them still further by using the iPhone as a data modem. Also, the iPhone is all about mobile connectivity and computing - allowing tethering makes sense as an extension of that. I expect this to work through USB, not bluetooth. Using bluetooth would drain the battery so fast it wouldn't be usable, and I expect this to be facilitated through iTunes, which currently does not support connecting to devices in any way other than USB.

Tethering is nice, but I'd eventually like to see WWAN (3G/4G/WiMax), support integrated into the MacBook lineup. I can't believe that the Air of all of them does not have it. It is designed to be wireless, and does not have an ExpressCard slot, and a lot of the 3G USB sticks won't fit into its sole USB port

- C&P: Dear God, hopefully! A must

I'd also like to see:
- More stable system (esp. Safari) ?
- More informative lock screen Not likely, Apple tends to keep things minimalist, may raise security issues
- Quicker rotation with accelerometer ?
- Landscape views for Mail, SMS, iCal Possible
- Top Sites in MobileSafari That is very resource intensive, I doubt it (for 3.0)
- Flash (duh) Possible
- Proper bluetooth stack ?
- VoiceOver in iPod.App Very likely
- Disk Mode enabled Possible
- AppStore trial versions (full version wrapped in DRM that lets you use it for 3 days) Extremely unlikely
- Ability to check remaining minutes/texts from phone settings ?
- Ability to sync iPhone/Mac software through iTunes syncing ? (not over WiFi)
- Sync iPhone notes Possible

See above.

Apologies if this has been stated already (as I'm sure it has), but I can't help but wonder how many ideas Apple is going to steal from Jailbroken applications for the 3.0 OS.

Call me a PITA dad, but I really want more parental control - maybe even remote administration from the master account on MobileMe. Disable games or certain apps/features if it's past curfew or if they're grounded. Call screening, whitelists, blacklists, for incoming and outgoing calls and SMS. Ability to get location, either 24-hour history, last polled or current, and show in Google Maps. Remotely snap a picture, answer a call (monitoring), or send a siren sound.

Thats just creepy...

No. Think Different Think Expensive

@ Stately. Look here. They are thinking $30 in addition to the regular data plan. Also, a 5gb cap. Meaning for normal people, this is a no-go.

I'm sorry but that is absolutely ridiculous. Even the richest dude in the world could clearly see that agreeing to something like that would be throwing money away. If that's the case I will not be using that feature. As a matter of fact I am about through with AT&T. The funny thing is, I am not usually one to rant much. I must say though, Apple needs to start looking for other carriers. Yes I knew what I signed up for, but I am now seeing that they continue to increase package prices and hidden fees.

Yeah but I guess we are all pretty used to the fluidity that Apple provides normally within their OS. Yeah Tuesday will be cool.

It's good to see that the iPhone 3.0 software may just make it the Pre killer that needs to arise before it's actually released.

I am sure that many of the features that Palm is giving with the Pre will trickle down to the iPhone just in time to save that poor device. I just hope that when Apple does copy Palm's software they at least do it right, and not cripple it like the useless iPhone Bluetooth.
