Am I weird for wanting Preview on the iPhone? I use that App to read eBooks, Scholarly Articles and papers. Often times I'll use the edit features too. (highlight, sticky note...)

I'd love to be able to drag and drop PDFs onto the device and be able to edit them in preview. (I truly find viewing PDFs in mail better than Stanza...)

Of course a mobile version of iWork would be nice too. I'd like to see a price structure like this:

Desktop Apps + Mobile Apps bundle for $79
Mobile Apps for $5.99.

I really want MMS. And not to send pictures - I always do that by email.

MMS allows me to send contacts to people. I always get people asking me to send them so and so's number. On my iPhone I have to look up the number, remember it / write it down and then tap it into a SMS.

On my very old SonyEricsson I could send the business card over in a couple of clicks. It's frustrating I can't do this on my iPhone

Actually, you can do this right now. There's a 99 cent app called iBeam that let's you do just that. You can send contact info (including contact photo, phone numbers, email info, etc.) to another iBeam user via Wi-Fi OR send entire V-Card to anyone info through email. So if this is your specific need, there already is something out there that can do just that.

You've seen Air Sharing? It basically turns your device into a Wifi thumb drive. Store any file you want. PDFs too of course. And from there you can have folders and categories and you can view the PDfs using Apple's built in pdf viewer.

I was an original 1G iphone owner for a few months, then decided to go back to Verizon not so much for ATT which was fine around me but because of the few shortcomings the iphone had. The 2ed generation didn't do much to fix it and make me want to come back. based on what I am hearing here if they address even half of those issues I will surely be back.

Same here. I figured I could make due with my iPod and current cell phone until they increased the hard drive size. But even besides that, I think they've made some pretty big improvements just in the past two years. And most of the features people are complaining about on here I don't think will be a big deal to me whether they are added or not. Obviously they are important to some people, but apparently not the majority of customers or the phone would not have been as popular as it is.

As someone else said, the things I am most concerned about are battery life and reception/internet speed. Those are things that can make a phone totally useless, regardless of its features.

Very true. Battery life and reception/internet speed are the most important. But if it can't hold all my music, a few videos and some PDFs, then it's not a smart phone to me. I want it to meet my needs if I'm going to shelling out $80/month + $299.

Besides, are any of us really that far from a USB port? I often times will charge my iPod Touch while I'm at work and then use it during my breaks (3 hours in between work/class and 3 hours in the evening.)

It would be nice not to need to charge it for a day or two, but it's unrealistic w/ my usage habits.

That's what I use currently. I'd like to see some tools like highlight and have it a bit more incorporated into the OS. (Like notes were on iPods.)

As of now, AirSharing is the best choice for this kind of work.

If there is a hardware upgrade in June, there's only ONE thing I want.

A LOUDER SPEAKER!.
I've missed so many calls because I didn't hear the darn thing.

Agreed. Also, stronger vibration would be nice so that I can actually feel my iPhone every time it rings in my pocket. The RAZR I had before this had very strong vibration compared to my iPhone. These things would have to be done with a hardware upgrade though, not an OS upgrade.

Better reception with AT&T would be nice too. It would be great if my phone didn't drop calls when I walk from my bedroom to my living room or when I'm driving down Wilshire Blvd.

The only other thing I'd really like (that is actually possible with this upgrade) is a landscape keyboard.

Something that I'd like that I doubt will happen is an official SBSettings-like function. This is the main reason why I jailbreak.

I already have copy and paste (Clippy), and I don't really use it very often. I didn't use MMS prior to the iPhone, and I doubt I'll use it if it arrives. Having Backgrounder has been useful for IM and leaving games to check email, so it would be nice to officially be able to run Apps in the background.

And tethering.... No need for that by me. There are Starbucks with their free daily 2 hours of internet everywhere around here.

At least it's only a few days away so that there won't be weeks of crazy speculation......

So, only /just/ got my iphone 3G, and a bit hesitant to post this, but would this be available as an upgrade from my firmware 2.2.1?

Sorry if that's a dumb question! :)

Mark:confused:

If they do what they have done in the past, yes.

They allowed all iPhone users to just upgrade from 1.0 -> 2.0 for free.
Ipod Touch Users needed to pay .... I forget. It was $10 or $20.

You should be fine.

Don't be afraid to ask anything here. Most of us are quite helpful. I still ask a fair amount of questions. Welcome! Enjoy the community.

Cool! Thanks the welcome.

iPhone 3

Tethering would be fantastic. Is it too much to ask for a search option for email???

What about Arabic text support, which my 5 year old, bottom of the barrel, Nokia 6103 which I got free with a plan does perfectly? There's so many that would benefit from this, many more than users speaking other languages iPhone supports. I get Arabic emails and FWDS all the time, and can never read them on the phone.

But even that would come below C+P for me, and maybe a dozen other fixes.

It's about friggin time Apple catches up to the rest of the world in terms of MMS and SIMPLE COPY AND PASTE. Seriously what the hell has been holding them back?

video, video video

please! the cheapest most basic pieces of crap have this function. come on!

I'm a freelance sportswriter who often covers games remotely with my laptop, usually where there's no wi-fi. Tethering would be nice, but not really necessary if there were a way to get my Microsoft Word (or even plain text) file off my laptop, onto the iPhone and then mailed as an attachment from there. AirSharing can get the file off my laptop and onto my phone, but it can't e-mail it.

Anyone know of any current app that could help me?

If you are able to use AirSharing doesn't that mean you have a WiFi network available? If so, can't you just email the thing off of your laptop, why are you moving it to the iPhone.

But no, I can't think of any way to send a file from AirSharing as an email attachment, which sucks. That would be really cool...

They've probably been working on a new way of copying and pasting (pun intended), such as the 'shake' feature on the iPods and the 'multi-gesture' trackpads.

Personally, im looking forward to the tethering option.

i'm also really afraid that some cool new features of 3.0 won't work on existing iphones. some things i believe will work, like a revamped home screen, tethering, MMS.... but the ability to run multiple apps at once or video recording will probably require new hardware. i can currently play Rolando and listen to music and accept phone calls all at the same time -- how much RAM can possibly be left over at this point? 2MB? clearly not enough to have any other applications running.

also, what would happen if you try to run multiple internet apps at the same time (like Pandora, Facebook, Ebay...) at some point wouldn't you overload the Edge/3G capabilities!?! even with new hardware i don't see how it would be possible to have multiple apps running at once due to network limitations. maybe they could remain 'open' in the background, but not running...
