I don't either but its still a society taboo here. Remember in this society in USA, it is extremely diverse. Muslims and Jews do not accept nudity anywhere and most parents grow up with the ideals of those past generation when the society norms where that nudity is not accepted and they are passing that onto their children. Even in this society, nudity and profanity is not allowed on public televsion at all, "mature content" is accepted somewhat after 11PM but still no nudity and profanity.

Beside the internet has enough boobies for all of us. :p

Did you seriously just blame our conservative Protestant society on the Muslims and Jews?

I never understood the danger female breasts presented to the American public compared to other things people are exposed to.

Oh! (Raises hand) It's because the North American continent is in thrall to commerce and in ensuring everyone's noses are to the grindstone. And nothing distracts from that paradigm than a lovely pair of well-rounded breasts. Mmmm...... Breasts......

It'd also be embarrassing for Apple if the 'most downloaded app' list is littered with these kind of apps. I mean, fart apps are bad enough...

Did you seriously just blame our conservative Protestant society on the Muslims and Jews?

lol no, he didn't. He was just saying how western society is pretty lenient compared to other places and cultures around the world

sorry if you were just joking..

Awesome, maybe now Trent can stop crying. :D

Dood, you beat me to it. At the end of the day, what did his self-interested tantrum gain him? Nothing. And the App store goes through its growing pains, as does anything imperfect lumbering towards excellence. Yawn. Yawn. Yawn. Why is ANYONE getting excited over nothing?

I didn't proofread my post but I meant the society of the Muslims of Jews around the world do not accept nudity everywhere.

Considering the fact that USA is a nation of immigrants, many of those parents from around the world are passing on their social norms to their children and one of them is nudity isn't accepted and yes as the previous poster said, Western nations usually are more flexible but their inherent norms from their parents are making it hard to break those norms.

Conservative Protestant society? You can't call USA a conservative Protestant society, we are a nation of every possible religion there is including the agnostics, atheists and so on.

Yes, I mean America has managed to turn pornography into a multi billion doller industry right? We can happily let our kids watch the tea time news of war, some more war, and then more war, videos of missiles killing people, video's of bombs blowing people up, videos of dead body's.
But you CAN'T let you kids hear swear words or see boob's.
Never has South Park Bigger, Longer and Uncut been more true of America ideology you know?
It's just a shame it's forced upon the rest of the grown up world.

But this is Apple anyway, you know, the people who think video recording shouldn't be included in a mobile device costing more then most laptops, bar their own of course! Yeah, they'll get round to everything, eventually.

ABOUT F****** TIME. I absolutely *HATE* this make-everyone-else-the-nanny censorship ********. Clearly, the iPhone/Touch just needs parental controls that block kiddies from downloading "adult" apps.

The App store should be completely unfiltered, but with adult applications remaining in their own category and not be shown uncensored in the featured/top sellers section.

This should have been done from day one, but thank god they are finally resolving their idiotic Apple-is-nanny policy.

Don't even get me going about the FCC and "fleeting expletives" ;)

Amen to that.

I've been working since since I was 15. It builds good work ethic and show responsibility.

I also really hope this well loosen up the app store for more apps that were "potentially offensive".

15?!? You're a shirker! My father had me working in the salt mines at 2 and half.

Pornography is pornography regardless of what social setting or continent you happen to be sitting in. Some will try and argue that it is science or art, but we all know what the true motivation is.

I can probably guarantee you, people aren't checking out the front page of that newspaper for the "art" or "science" behind topless women. Justification and rationalization is already over used in this world.

It's filth, plain and simple. Disagree if you like, but don't claim you don't understand why people choose differently than you.

Any of us have a right to say we don't want to see a wider adoption of nudity and pornography, just as you have the right to say you do. Just be aware of which side of line you are standing on and the actual ramifications of such.

I disagree in your assessment of generational ideals. The implication that we do not accept nudity because of the ideals of our parents is wrong.

Some choose to exercise self control and avoid those things which would fill their minds with visuals they would rather not have. This doesn't only include nudity or pornography, and can include violence, racism, foul language, etc.

Just remember, you are who you are when no one is looking.

Do note, there wasn't anything mentioned here about morals, ethics or religion. So all of you quivering at the keyboard to attack in defense of your porn can just move along.

To stay on topic; Personally, I think it is good to see Apple implement a rating system, but hope it doesn't get out of hand and that adult content is routinely found on the iPhone.

You never did Sauna with us ze Germans...

last time I checked, the UK has Muslims and Jews too

It's just the british are alot more open about it

Just put some Brits into a German Sauna and we will see who is more open with nudity :)

And I rather have kids see somebody naked then riddled with bullets from all these American action heroes...

You love them and you hate them, us friends across the ocean :)

Im not even sure how "The Sun" because eligible for the title Newspaper.
The Guardian is like The Sun but with bigger words. Substitute any newspaper for The Guardian, really: they all select an audience with a particular viewpoint, and write what the audience want to hear in order to maximize sales. At least, that's how the last and surprisingly candid representative I spoke to from News International explained it to me.

The Sun and The Daily Hate are at least blatant with it. I fear papers like The Times and The Guardian more because they have a false air of impartiality. It's fairly easy to guess how each one is going to represent a particular issue, however. Thank goodness for the Internet.

And what is it with Americans and breasts? Hey everyone, women have baps! You probably had your face stuck to some as an infant, and they didn't kill you! Why let through gruesome simulated murders but censor big bouncy chests?

Erm, self-control would be controlling your reaction to exposure. To prevent yourself from being exposed to something because you fear your reaction to it is merely a more primitive substitute for self-control.

Couldn't agree more. Udderly confuses me.

Finally.. After all, the whole issue is "what if a child sees this..". Better Parental Controls should have been implemented when the App Store was introduced.

Maybe they should have just introduced better parents.

Oh, I'm sorry that what Apple thinks they ARE; a better parent for its consumers. Frankly, I think FPS games are more "damaging" to children than a nice pair or occasional obscenity. But that (in theory) is the nice thing about freedom... you can let your kids play with guns and I can let mine get a sixteenth of a second glimpse at titties without going to the supreme court.

Unfortunately, too much judgement going around, hence the ridiculous decisions by the App store.

We're talking about the concept of society here, not the concept of individuality that you are talking about, two different things.

The society norms often comes from the ideals of the community. There's a reason there is usually specific area of the city often involves a specific culture and social norms. I can tell you in brooklyn which area are usually jews, russians, mexicans just by going there and look around (not at people, but the environment will often tell you more than the look/skin of people).

Also, nobody is saying porn is science or art, it is not the same thing as nudity. That is all related to the government interfering with the pornography industry, if they banned pornography, they must ban all forms of nudity as well otherwise that will be considered censorship which is against the constitution if they just block specific area of nudity and allow others (Remember the earliest religious art also involves a lot of nudity).

Anyway, we are getting off the topic. Let's get back to the fact that Apple may be finally allowing people to get mature content (which doesn't mean porn, could be cursing in songs, apps, comic books, blood, books with some nudity in it etc etc)

your choice of words clearly denotes an ideological viewpoint.

your other statements are just opinion, not fact.

exactly why I don't want apple or anybody else making value laden decisions.

filth clearly denotes something that needs to be cleansed, something I can take care of by myself - thanks for the concern though

This is getting a bit ridiculous. There's a very simple answer. Ban the sale of iPhones to minors. I mean, really, isn't that what the whole problem is? Kids?

You must be 18 to use an iPhone. Problem solved.
