I love how so many people believe that unregulated porn is a form of keeping an open mind. These are usually the same "close minded" people that shut down the concept of a supreme creator. I'm sure those religious types who are against porn are well aware that women have breasts... I'm not sure they deserve to be labeled close minded.

And back on topic, parental filtering will be a welcome addition for many adults that do not wish to view the breasts of random women.

This is getting a bit ridiculous. There's a very simple answer. Ban the sale of iPhones to minors. I mean, really, isn't that what the whole problem is? Kids?

You must be 18 to use an iPhone. Problem solved.

Then we might as well ban internet, computers, cars, video games to kids. Problem solved.

Are you talking about specific people in this thread or people in general? If in general, then you are generalizing people for no reason. There are open minded people who shut down the concept of supreme creator and there are closed minded people who are okay with porn.

Not sure what is it you are trying to say here.

There's a world's difference between being okay with porn and allowing for people to make their own decisions and having parents actually PARENT their children versus free unregulated pornography.

And the idea of god, now that's just silly.

So instead of discussing whether porn is right or wrong (we all clearly have our own personal opinions, which will not be changing easily), could we instead discuss the iPhone 3.0 parental controls?

Specifically, my question is: are there good parental controls available for Safari in iPhone 3.0, beyond simply disabling Safari, like in the current version? And I heard something about Youtube controls?

[QUOTE/] For now, Makayama has simply removed the offending newspaper from his application.
S/he should do us all a favour and remove the offending newspaper from the whole planet, period...[/QUOTE]

S/he?

It says his...

I'm not sure it's really practical - there's no way of rating every site on the internet, and anyone over the age of 14 knows how to bypass the parental blocks anyway, as they'll have been doing it at school (much younger than that and they shouldn't be browsing the web unsupervised anyway and disabling Safari is exactly what you want to happen).

instead of banning sales of iPhone to kids, let's just ban sales or kids. At the same time we would solve the problems of consumer debt and/or overpopulation.

Let Steve Jobs decide.

it's funny how this has strayed a little from the app store rating system and into a nudity vs no nudity thing....

some people still hold the sexuality and intimacy of being with one person a little closer than the looseness and selfishness of porn... as much as i don't want my kids going around shooting people do i want them going around seeing girls as walking racks with pretty faces.

Yup, the app store can't be beat. Apple will definitely need to get the iPhone on more than ONE service provider. Look at BB, they've got four service providers and a nice two for one give-away going for them. (I don't count T-Mobile as a serious contender). Verizon probably in our future....:eek::eek:

I've never heard someone argue that porn has the closeness of romantic love. Traditional romantic love is supremely selfish, however. That's just the way people are. Ask instead, "Is someone being harmed?"

It is possible to see bodies in general as both "walking rack/hunky body with pretty face" and as container for an interesting mind, just as my Mac is aesthetically fairly beautiful but functionally very powerful. Sometimes I walk into an Apple store and admire the sexiness of the machines, yet I don't come out unable to continue productively developing with my computer at home.

I apologise in advance for not using the canonical car analogy, as I really don't know much about them. Cars just seem so symbolic and ostentatious; I wouldn't want my kid getting one and thinking it's all right to just put himself on display...

So that's what this is all about? Topless women? No really, that's the hideous image we daren't show children?

You know what happens when you wind a clock or watch too tight? It breaks and can't keep time any more: People are so wound up over silly crap like this that it blinds them from focusing on the more important issues of our time. It really is pathetic.

Besides, is this really breaking news? I've really only cursorily followed the 3.0 software development and even I knew it would be laden with improved parental controls.

Slow news day. Give me better rumors - like a big fat price cut on the Mac Pro!

I don't either but its still a society taboo here. Remember in this society in USA, it is extremely diverse. Muslims and Jews do not accept nudity anywhere and most parents grow up with the ideals of those past generation when the society norms where that nudity is not accepted and they are passing that onto their children. Even in this society, nudity and profanity is not allowed on public televsion at all, "mature content" is accepted somewhat after 11PM but still no nudity and profanity.

Beside the internet has enough boobies for all of us. :p

I think you'll find Europe is more diverse than the USA and have no issue with the female nipple, and swearing for that matter.

I'm always amused when someone uses the word "filth" to describe a naked breast. Porn is one thing, nudity is another.

Pornography is pornography regardless of what social setting or continent you happen to be sitting in. Some will try and argue that it is science or art, but we all know what the true motivation is.

I can probably guarantee you, people aren't checking out the front page of that newspaper for the "art" or "science" behind topless women. Justification and rationalization is already over used in this world.

It's filth, plain and simple. Disagree if you like, but don't claim you don't understand why people choose differently than you.

Any of us have a right to say we don't want to see a wider adoption of nudity and pornography, just as you have the right to say you do. Just be aware of which side of line you are standing on and the actual ramifications of such.

Nudity does not equal pornography, nor is our naked form filth thank you very much.

But my point was simpler than that before you jumped up with your reply. My point was that everybody has seen a female nipple anyway so where is the harm compared to the countless amounts of people who have died in human conflicts, a different kind of pornography and a truer case of filth if I've seen one.

Probably guaranteeing me something isn't a good start to a second paragraph either btw.

This also allows me to finally use this quote: "The only valid censorship of ideas is the right of people not to listen." - Tommy Smothers

maybe I'm the weird one....

Maybe I'm alone on this, but I'm actually perfectly okay without having a topless app crowding the app store. I don't want to have to sort through a bunch of those just to get to the apps I actually want/need.

We really don't need adult content on the App store. I hope they keep it off.

I don't care what people look at, but there is enough prn already on the internet. I understand that there are even iPhone dedicated sites.

It's depressing enough all those bikini Apps that have appeared (how desperate!) without having a Adult category in the App store.

Content rejection policy

Has the Apple published a policy on what they would condsider objectionable content for an iPhone app? Can you point me to it? Yes I can guess at the obvious ones but what about the more subtle issues?

Thanks
