I dont like this process. When I buy any new product, I like to open it up in the privacy of my home and enjoy taking it out of the box myself. I want to enjoy the unboxing process. Now with this process this wont be possible :(

I am going to insist that I open the box and take the phone out myself. I will make the Appple employee wear gloves!! I will try and get pics of this lol.

What does evey one else think, am I crazy? lol

Wow! OCD much? I don't give a damn who touches my phone because; 1. I'm not going to eat off it, and 2. it's just a damn phone!

Funny... i don't know why but this makes me remember one of those National Geographic which they show how some species are bred under captivity. I mean... they put the male and the female of the specie in a limited space, adjust the temperature and let them bond. I think that they do that with pandas. Well.. and know with iPhones!

i wonder if they'll dim the lights and play some barry white... does anyone know?

While most people are not going to go as far as him, most people want to be the ones to open their items.

thats not fair!!!, my plan was to not see the iphone till i haved connected to my itunes at home..so when i finally do see it... i will be like woah!!! its white!!! ... and that way i can use all its features....

lol
instead of having to mess around with the "slide to enter" slider thingy ..lol
and the emergency calls only.. lol

You're not crazy - I feel the same way.
While I doubt that I'll demand anything at the store, I will want them to be careful and have their hands clean.
If possible, oh man - I wonder if Jobs thought of this - make the employees who are activating the phones wear SMOOTH WHITE GLOVES, but of a thin film around the fingers so the touch can still be used.
CANNOT WAIT!

I'm going to bring a boom-box and play "you look so beautiful to me" while it's being unboxed.

wonder if people will think I'm crazy

Heres my plan

Im going to bring a small speaker and play "american anthem"

Bring a sparkler to ignite

Video Camera

White Gloves

Haha. I think I will get some nice white gloves with an Apple logo on it and give it to the clerk and make him/her wear them.

Perfect way to keep from activating in store

This might be a good way to keep them from activating the phone in store.

Once they hand you the phone stick it down your pants, make a few funny noises and then try to hand it back.

They might just let you leave without activating

or maybe you'll just get kicked out of the store but, hey it's worth a shot :D

It might just be People(and Mac Addicts) Vs. AT&T employees

This is weird. "bond with the iPhone"? It really takes about a day 2 do that.. So I think they're trying 2 make it so your not TOO much in control. They really know how 2 piss me and everyone else off. Thats it... Have one amazing company come out with an awesome thing and then let another company ruin it.

Things 2 get pissed off about:
1.I will shout out whichever person takes off the plastic and starts clickin all the buttons like I don't know anything about the product, which is weird to think because I have been waiting in line for hours 4 this product! All I need 2 know is how 2 turn off the 3G and make it so you can't make calls or anything when "roaming"

2. When I went 2 an AT&T store most of the people said 2 come a couple of hours before opening (which I believe is believable 4 small AT&T stores and not Apple stores) But the manager says if I "really want one".. I'd have 2 wait 2 days... Oh.. if there was a Mac Addict rebellion... what mercy they'd be beggin 4.(ha ha jk):D

I might just ask them 2 let me hold it while they sync it and the other stuff. And If they won't "allow" that then they'll just be hurting themselves more by embarrassing themselves wearing gloves.. Moouahahah. (half kidding):D

Friday will be the Mac Addict's day. No matter what. If it starts 2 not go that way.. then a couple of night's later. WE. WILL. DIE. IN. CUPERTINO!!!!! The AT&T people will say " This is madness" ,but we will say "THIS! IS! iPhone!

(sorry... gettin a bit out of it. Sorry 4 the 300 spoofing. :D( everything in this is basically jk):D

So this is funny and all, but what if the person purchasing the phone isn't going to be the owner? What if it's being given as a gift or something? My original iPhone sat in the box in a closet for a month before my wife gave it to me for an anniversary present. Seems like iPhone gifting won't be possible anymore with in-store activations.

I decided to wait to get one and see how everything goes and I'm really glad about that. Also, when I eventually do get a new one, I will be very annoyed if/when they unbox it "for me." My favorite part of getting new "toys" is opening them and taking it all in... if they ruin that for me, I will request a new one and they will not be touching it. I will allow them to watch me open it up and play with it and activate it myself, we all know it's going to be a simple process. Also, I will be getting it at an Apple store and they definitely understand my enthusiasm more than AT&T.

They ain't touchin' mine! They can't even look directly at it.

lmao. Quality.

Only with an Apple™ product though. No 'Let the customer bond with their clunky new Nokia'

Although 'Ask the customer to give it back' also made me laugh. 'Sir, it's been an hour. Can I please have it back to activate it now, your holding the line up.'

However, it's amazing how much hype this is creating. Is there anyone left in the world who doesn't want one?

every single phone at&t sells must be activated in-store if purchased in-store...

it's about time for at&t to implement THEIR policies. how long is apple going to be allowed to run the show when it's not THEIR network? they should start their own phone company if they want to be this insane.

for those of you who are deeply offended that the iphone might be opened for you, why do you take so much joy in opening it yourself? it's a phone, a material item, and it really shouldn't matter who takes the plastic off...

that being said, i don't like in-store activation at all. from a connivence stand-point.

The way I look at it, is with everything going on at the moment if you can't get excited about little things like this, then what can you get excited about? I do agree some people are making a little tooooooo much of it, but each to their own.

Personally, I can't wait for DHL to deliver mine at home so I can open it. :D

wonder when they'll let you order online? i'd actually prefer that.

i'm already pissed that they get to open the box for me. part of the fun of buying a new apple product is the unboxing. the packaging is beautiful, and its always gives me a rush when i pop open the lid for the very first time. now all my fun has been taken away at the hands of the evil at&t empire. way to go...death star douchebags.

this guide is lame. just activate the damn phone since you're already taking away my fun and getting your greasy hands all over it's shiny wonderment.

I fully intend to wait until they are opening the box, and say something like, "So, do I get a chance to enjoy the feel of the phone, and then hand it back to you" just to see the look on their face.

or, before they unbox it,

"so, before you open the phone, I was hoping the process would go something like this... first, you'll remove my new iPhone 3G then, you should give me a change to enjoy the feel of the phone in my hand, then, you can ask for it back, and activate it, does that sound alright?"

To be fair, any time I've bought a new phone in the past few years, the assistant has unsealed the box, taken out the phone and handed it to me to check (and commune ) before taking it back to activate so not entirely sure this is news.

Still... mine should be coming by courier so I should be the first person to get my grubby hands on it... :D
