"so, before you open the phone, I was hoping the process would go something like this... first, you'll remove my new iPhone 3G then, you should give me a change to enjoy the feel of the phone in my hand, then, you can ask for it back, and activate it, does that sound alright?"

Pics though, or it didn't. :p

Amazing customer service!

This is the kind of attention to detail that Apple employs that endear them to their customers. Have anyone of you tried cherishing your copy of Vista :D hahahaha.

It's funny, but if this is real other retailers should pay attention :D

First of all thats crap, They activate the phone the same way we would at home, why do they get to have all the fun!? I know to prevent seling them but still no fair.

And secondly does anyone know if the BACK of the iphone will have a plastic piece??? If so it is STAYING ON the whole time its being activated :p

If I had known these beginning steps, I would have not have freaked out so much.;):D. Now I feel better that I get 2 touch it first... ugh.. what a relief. But I'm gonna be really pissed if I'm not one of the first people in because when it says "Make your first call" I think. " R U KIDDIN ME?!!!!!" Do u know how long a lot of people talk on their cell phone?! Because they'll be like "Hey! I'm on my brand new iPhone right now" and go on about it 4 2 hours!!! Man.. it's going 2 be one crazy friday ( /weekend)

Yes but see, this is how they insure that every iPhone sold is locked to a two year contract.

How many thousands of iPhones were sold during the last year that were not activated through AT&T? Thousands and thousands.

Yes. Only first, I'll give the guy a pair of gloves, then hold up my printout of this picture, then say, "does that sound okay with you?" and walk out of the store with a clean, un-ATT fingered iPhone. :)

I dont like this process. When I buy any new product, I like to open it up in the privacy of my home and enjoy taking it out of the box myself. I want to enjoy the unboxing process. Now with this process this wont be possible :(

I am going to insist that I open the box and take the phone out myself. I will make the Appple employee wear gloves!! I will try and get pics of this lol.

What does evey one else think, am I crazy? lol

I just wanted to let you all know that I feel an unnatural affection for you guys borne though sheer empathy.

every single phone at&t sells must be activated in-store if purchased in-store...

Is that why my dad walked out of the AT&T store on May 26th with a shrink wrapped iPhone? The AT&T rep was pretty clear that all activation for the iPhone was done on iTunes. The wrapper didn't come off until we got home.

It may be their policy with all other phones...but not the iPhone.

The only reason why they have to open them up for the iPhone 3G is because they come to AT&T bricked and have to be unbricked before leaving the store. Actual activation is done at home still via iTunes.

Roflmao!

I hve to agree this topic has to be one of the funniest to come along in awhile!

I have laughed and giggled reading every post in this topic...Thanks I needed a good laugh. :D

i don't want some 16 year old touching my jesusPhone! I'll ask to do the activation process myself, lol

Now if Apple was really smart, they would have designed the box so the dock connector would fit into the iPhone without having to remove it from the box, so all the employee would do is cut the cellophane.

But I'm fine with just opening the box, as long as I get to touch it first. lol

it's about time for at&t to implement THEIR policies. how long is apple going to be allowed to run the show when it's not THEIR network? they should start their own phone company if they want to be this insane.

for those of you who are deeply offended that the iphone might be opened for you, why do you take so much joy in opening it yourself? it's a phone, a material item, and it really shouldn't matter who takes the plastic off...

that being said, i don't like in-store activation at all. from a connivence stand-point.

Yeah I know that poor poor AT&T company...God I feel so bad for them!

What to do

1. After they fetch the phone for you, allow them to cut it open (personally, I like pulling the cello off too, but if I had to do that I'd hold up the line).
2. If they try to open the box, request that they let you open it up and get the first look at the phone.
3. Plug the phone into the dock connector yourself if you can.
4. Just don't let them touch it. As long as they don't touch my phone, I'm good with it, the whole in-store activation issue isn't too much of a biggie.
5. If they ask you to make the first call, just say, "No, thank you, I don't have a reason to call anyone right now."

IMO, some of this just doesn't make sense. What do they want it to be, like you and the apple store employee both own the phone? "Yeah, cut the box open, give it to 'em, then reach in and grab the phone before they get the chance." Seriously, I'm making sure this goes my way.
