I will be new to ATT, are rollover minutes universal to all their plans or are there just rollover specific plans? were they applicable to the old plan and will they be for the new plan?

Wait, my family has unlimited texting in the family plan, I don't have to pay seperately for my own unlimited texting correct?

You family unlimited texting will work on your iPhone. No need for any additional texting plan.

And Walter, all AT&T plans include unlimited rollover. Unused minutes expire after 12 months though.

Soo.... Since the voice & data plans are separate now, does that mean I can buy data only?? I'm not interested in a $40/mo voice plan, and that still doesn't even cover texting.

I'm a happy SERO customer with Sprint. No activation fee bull that you ATT fools are subject to, unlimited data, unlimited texts, N&W starting at 7, free Sprint to Sprint, etc.... for $30/mo!!! That's the price of your data service alone!! Only bummer is that they don't do family plans (but 4 people with all that goodness is still only $120/mo, try adding that up with another family plan), and I'm pretty sure that they don't offer insurance (doesn't bother me as I insure my cell phone & laptop in a Personal Articles Policy (PAP) with State Farm).

Sorry for thread-jacking, just trying to spread the good word.

No, you're reading it very wrong. The "minimum of $70" INCLUDES the $30 for data and $40 for the 450 minute plan. It was just breaking down the pricing of that $70, not saying you need to pay the $70 and THEN those things.

Ah! Okay. Thanks for clarifying that.

Soo, again.... Does the breaking down of voice & data plans mean that I can buy data only now??
If I can't buy data only, I don't understand why they'd split the two services up... just to piss me off, I guess.

To note that you can add the $30 data plan onto any plan you already have.
You won't be able to get data alone.

You are eligible for data only if you are deaf or dumb. You may qualify. AT&T has a disability form you can fill out.

How are you going to compare public rate plans with rates available through employee referrals? The minimum Sprint data plan for the public is $69.99/month - it's only comparatively cheaper if you're going to pay AT&T for SMS, otherwise both are 450 minutes and unlimited data for $69.99.

I get high-speed internet, home phone and every cable channel including premiums for $35 per month because of my employer, that doesn't mean I can go on forums claiming that every other broadband/phone/video provider's rates suck. My monthly bill is $100 less per month; I'm just spreading the good word!

HEHE.... good one. Thanks for the advice; I just might be able to pull this one off. ;^)

Well, SERO is pretty public. All ya gotta do is go inside a Sprint store and get a business card, or search Google. It's pretty public.

I'll admit, tho... after looking at Sprint's website for the first time in several months, the plans are pretty ridiculous compared to how they used to be. I can understand them jacking up the prices of their plans... but pretty soon there'll only be SERO users left.

Who is this service with? Verizon?

And sure, I get discounts because of my employer as well, but I didn't mention those. $57/mo for *TWO* lines with 500 min apiece/unl data/unl texts/free sprint2sprint/N&W starting at 7pm AFTER taxes is unbelievable for a cellular phone nowadays. But yes, that *is* with an employee discount on top of a "fairly" public plan (I just called the retentions line and told them to switch me over, even tho it's supposed to be for *new* customers only... those sprint reps are such push-overs). ONE iPhone is $70+taxes+fees+more fees for ONE month. That's too much recurring dough for me to drop. I'll stick to my loopholes.

I too am curious on family plans. If they plan on changing the package etc at the time of launch.

To clarify some misunderstandings about the price of data.

I bought my Treo 750 over a year ago. At that time the data plan (cheapest) was 30 bucks, sooo it was 30 bucks over a year ago and it's still 30 bucks now (just as stevo said).

Actually whats happening now with the 3g is what SHOULD have happened when they launched it. Low price when bought with a plan, High price when bought seperately. Same as my Treo. Retail it was WAY MORE than what I got it for with an included plan. Also the data plan THEN included text messaging as well (not sure why ppl said it doesn't).

So I don't buy into the arguements of people saying they increased the data plan price when a year ago it was 30 (29.99) and it's still the same price.

Also if anyone remembers, there was a time when the Crackberry came out you couldn't buy it unless you got the dataplan as well. Now I think it's optional but they've been out a while. Similar is the iPhone, soon it'll be offered with the option but right now it's not.

I still don't agree with not having the ability to unlock it, then again, I can't get my Treo unlocked (that is not unlocked by ATT) until my contract is up which is ok. But currently (unless they plan to offer it later) we can't unlock the iPhone. Maybe after 2yrs when the contract is up we can and they just aren't tellng us for the fear of another mass unlocking, who knows.

iPhone 3G Family Plans

I really like that they're gonna do this because one of the reasons I wouldn't get an iPhone is because of the monthly cost so.... This is a good thing Apple/AT&T did...

so confused

what is the cheapest monthly price for a 3g iphone, and some free phone for the wife sans data and text. Is it just $70+$9.99?
