Increased pricing of the AT&T contract makes it difficult for more people to jump on. The difference is about $15 per month on data/SMS.
How can that be? Before WWDC 08, if I could find a first gen iPhone to buy it would have cost me at the very least $458.99 (first gen iPhone $399.00 plus AT&T voice/data plan $59.99)...
But after WWDC 08, if I still could find a second gen 3G iPhone to buy it would cost me at the very least $268.99 (second gen iPhone $199.00 plus AT&T voice data plan $69.99 (voice plan 450 min. 39.99 plus data plan 30.00).
Of course any activation fees, taxes etc. are not in my calculation.
But I got a price break of $190.00 and when that is whittled down by the $10.00 extra for the 3G data plan for the next 23 months (remember I included the iphone and first month data plan payment in my initial math) means that we are paying only $40.00 more or $1.67 a month more for 3G speed! (1.67 x 24 month contract = 40.08)
Data plan increases 10.00 month x 24 month contract = $240.00 + old 450 minute plan 39.99 plus old data 20.00 or 59.99 x 24 month contract = $1,439.76 + 199.00 iPhone = $1,878.76 for the iPhone and two year contract. Keep same formula above minus the increase $10.00 / month for the data plan or subtract the 240.00 from the $1,878.76 but add the $200.00 more for the old iPhone price of $399.00 and you come up with $1,838.76.
$1,878.76 - $1,838.76 = $40.00
$40.00 / 24 month contract = $1.67 /month extra for 3G speed.
Yep, no matter how I slice it and do the math. I still can't see this humongous price increase that some are talking about?
