here in italy

Reseller and providers are inviting people to leave their details and when they are ready they'll call you up and ask you if you want to buy one. So far TIM, the ex-state owned provider has given us a price. €599 for a pay as you go version.
Italy doesn't do subsidized handsets so I guess the contract iphones wont be much less. Unieuro, dixons owned is the reseller.

Apple Store Online?

Just wondering if/when you think we'll be able to purchase the 3G iPhone from the Apple Store online. I don't have a store anywhere close to me.

Thanks

Switching SIM Card?

How does one switch the SIM Card? Wouldn't that require a dismantling of the product? I have an first gen iPhone now and am planning on buying a 3g while still keeping my number so I am curious about this point.

Question

So I have a different service, not AT&T and I will be canceling. I want to keep my number, so should I cancel before or after the 11th, or does it not matter at all?

3g opening time

a friend of mine works as an assistant manager at 02 in the uk and has been told they will be opening at 7:02 am on 7/11 :D

According to a number of rumors on this site and others you will be required to activate your iPhone 3G in store and thus must buy it in store as well. Also Apple has a page (http://www.apple.com/iphone/buy/) specifically for those wishing to buy the new phone and it only lists the options of buying it in store at an AT&T or Apple Retail Store

I don't think iPhone is delayed in Belgium anymore. At the keynote Belgium was listed as one of the 22 countries, next day they were removed and now they are back. But France is listed as "coming soon",

The sim is user accessible. you just need a paper clip... and the 3G iphone comes with a Sim Tool (aka paperclip)

It makes a big difference. Do NOT cancel your current service or you will lose your phone number. You must initiate a transfer from AT&T when u get new service and the old service will automatically be discontinued at that time.

From O2 Ireland's website:

"The activation process for customers who sign up to iPhone tariffs is very simple, with the SIM being activated immediately in-store. Once at home, all customers then have to do is sync the device to their PC or Mac, download the latest version of iTunes, follow the easy to use activation steps and the device will be ready to use".

Implying you walk out of the store with an activiated SIM card and an uopened box with an iPhone 3G in it?

They don't say unopened box, just that the SIM will be activated in-store. Most likely they'll have a load of pre-activated phones to sell on launch day and all you have to do is sign the contract, pick up the box and take it home.

London had no real queues last the first time around (except in the Apple Store) so i'll be there on the 11th!

This is certainly good news. I'm planning on going to the nearest O2 store after work on the 11th to pick the new phone up and really can't be arsed with queueing and so on.

All that remains is to call Vodafone, tell them our lengthy relationship is over, and get my PAC code. :)

It's still delayed, on the website of mobistar (name of Orange in Belgium) there is a mailing list and when they know the release date for sure they'll mail you.

If the 6pm thing is right then what a bugger  I'm working 2pm-10pm that day, really dont want to use a day's holiday! But I must say, I've been told by countless o2 and carphonewarehouse stores that it will be available from store opening (am), until I see something concrete then it's not a given that it will be 6pm.

any way to get one without the data plan? any way at all? :(

is there any possible way to get one of these without a data plan or, preferably, keeping one's current plan? i'm with at&t and right now i've got a ton of minutes and i pay $10/month for unlimited SMS. i've got a razr that's dying on me and $100 of in-store credit at the apple store. if i renewed my contract i could pick one up for $99. :(

The flight is about 11 hours, so it should be doable. For me, however, the iPhone's cost (whatever it turns out to be here, probably $NZ799 for the 16GB :() will be enough for the one day, so unless this could be a sponsored trip... ;)

I dont think it will be that bad
if you listen to Steve during the keynote

yep, i work for o2 and thats defo happening. although i have been told i may have to do a 6 day week and stay open till 7pm with time owed back. thanks apple, thanks a lot. ;)

although bring on the staff deals. hahahah

Nightmare in Hong Kong...

What with all the people having iPhone (2G) already and all the people who want an iPhone, I'm going to be staying away from the store for at least a month to let things settle down. (also because I'm going to the states on July 11 for a month. Unlucky much?)

Canada Apple Stores Will Be Selling Iphones

I Spoke to the Manager "Amy" at the Eatons apple store as well as the manager "Michelle" at the Yorkdale store "IN PERSON" and they both told me just to watch the apple.ca site, and being good friends with Amy! She told me that Apple Store's shall be selling the iPhone, those are her words and she said that everything is in the air right now and I will be notified whenever something occurs! So APPLE STORES WILL BE HAVING IPHONES CAMPING AT EATONS OR YORKDALE

When I used to sell cell phones about 5 years ago, we had stickers on the outside of the packaging with the imei number. I don't remember if the SIM was on there, but if it was, you could activate the phone without needing to open the box

O2 in england keep telling me that if i upgrade with them from my old iPhone to the new one, they'll get it to me before the 11th July
i wonder if that means, they'll dispatch it on the 10th
but still, it is tempting - although a shame to misout on the shop queuing on Regents Street again as it was fun last november

Launch time in canada

The Rogers store near me has already stated it will open at Midnight July 10 for sales. They have also stated the price will be $199 and $299 CND plus the data packages rumored to be $45 per month.
