I actually believe that the largest complaint will be the non-removable battery and the installed battery not lasting long enough (charge).
I believe the runner up will be with AT&T charging the Smartphone price on the 3G network when they live in an EDGE only location.

If there was something WORTHY of complaint it's probably the lack of features.

But for a phone that is just in it's 1st year of introduction, a mobile operating system that is still only 1.2 It's pretty good. It lacks features, yes, but there are phone operating systems out there that are years in development and none of them touch the ease of use that the iphone OS had from introduction. If anything I want the iphone OS to grow more and advance more.

i dont think a whole lot of ppl care about that honestly, and the battery life is great on the iphone.

I'm 27 but if i worried about scratching my phone I'd never appreciate it enough to use it. I'd take personal steps to make sure it was handled daily with care. Am i worried or will I complain? Probably not. To do so would detract from it;s usefulness. It's a phone, it's meant to be used and replaced within a year or 3 down the road when a sexier better iphone comes along.

Oh, I'm not worried about scratching. My iPhone now has some scrathes/dents/scuff marks on the back of it, nothing major. I use it just like any other cell phone, one of the reasons I love it though is because I have dropped it several times on hard surfaces, but it keeps on working. I don't know if a phone with a plastic backing would be able to survive with me.
Before I switched to at&t/iPhone I was with Sprint and had an A900 Blade (metal phone) and it had battery problems so when they sent me a replacement it was made with plastic instead of the metal like the original and when I called and asked them about it they said it was upgraded to plastic because it has better reception (I know that's a long run-on sentence and I apologize. I know we have a few grammar police on MR).
Anyway, I don't consider switching from metal to a plastic an upgrade, but to each his own, right?

The camera will be the biggest complaint.

Because people don't realise that megapixels != quality.

I've seen these phones with 5mp cameras, which are far poorer than the iPhone when comparing the pictures.

Except when switching from metal to plastic improves the quality of the device....besides, aren't the front plates of iPods plastic?

Good point! But does the metal backing really hinder reception that bad? I've never had any problems with dropped calls or anything, maybe I can take the guts out of the new iPhone and shove them in my old iPhone :D what do ya think?? It could work!!!

Agreed, so far the only thing going for the iPhone is the UI and OS. You love or hate any of the features but the UI is undeniably the best part of the phone.

For me, it's the lack of features, bluetooth, and piss poor AT&T service.

I agree. 3G loves to suck up battery power. IF more business oriented people start using the iPhone, I think some of Apple's quirks will come to light. Here's what I posted in another thread regarding batteries and business users:

Considering the iPhone is now more "business" oriented, I think it needs a user replaceable battery. How would you like to be a sales guy running around in a major city (which means using public transportation such as cab, subway, etc) and not knowing where or when you will be able to plug in for x amount of minutes to recharge?

Or what about when the battery starts to not hold onto the charge anymore? You have to send in the entire phone and wait x amount of hours/days to have it replaced instead of just running down to the store to pick up a new battery? That's totally inconvenient to me as a consumer and definitely unacceptable as a business device. Some people might be able to live with a non-user replaceable battery but I think it's a legit gripe.

a) its a phone FFS
b) it's not even out yet can we complain when we actually get it?

c) yeah i don't like the iPhone 5G cos it doesn't have it's own laser emitting death ray!

(no its' not a typo...silly isn't it!)

wow, you think you're clever huh? i said what do you think will be the MOST STATED COMPLAINT.

"All of it" would entail an infinite amount of topics to complain about......ahhh, nevermind. you just are one of those people who LIKE to be difficult in life and think you're smarter than everyone else for it.

very well, Scooterman has casted his vote as "ALL OF IT". mark it down for the man.

I have one thing to say to you,

Why So Serious?

Sure, but I'm not sure why :) Clearly, your recpetion is comparable (metal V. plastic) in high coverage, urban areas, but I would imagine less so in rural areas. Plastic will definitly help in that situation, and I'd also be happier having my phone as "effecient" as it can be.

Currently widespread 3G chips might suck up battery power. Yes 3G needs more than 2G let's say, but that doesn't mean that the battery usage will remain the same. That's why people from Infineon amongst others can create more efficient chips.

Your argument about recharging is a non-valid one - you're basically saying that with replaceable batteries are the only way to easy know that you can recharge, without finding a plug socket. But that's false - there is at least one, if not several battery packs suitable for the iPhone (I think one is called the Movi Juicer). So you have that in your bag, and recharge with that, as you would reach into your bag and get out another battery. Or get one of those 1 use battery rechargers. Or get a handcrank or solar powered recharger etc.

I'm sure a decent business could liaise with Apple to get a fast turn-around of replacement handsets whilst an old one gets a new battery.

Mark my word, the number one complaint will be about 3G. Come July 12, I bet we see several threads started with the following complaint: “I just upgraded my iPhone. I paid an extra $200 and $10 more per month and I don’t get 3G in my town” or “3G coverage is spotty.”

A lot of people here in the states will be buying the new iPhone with the promise of faster speeds without even glancing at AT&T’s 3G coverage map and be in for an unpleasant surprise when they get it home.

It's gunna be:

omgz A2DP
omgz bluetooth filesharingz
omgz no copy/paste
omgz no MMS
omgz no video camera or omgz the video camera is not good enough
omgz the ringtones are too expensive
omgz i dunno how to make free ringtones
omgz the speaker is too quiet
omgz the ringtones are too quiet
omgz ipod crashes when i browse myspace at the same time
omgz 3G is not that fast
omgz GPS has no turn by turn directions out of box
omgz the back gets scratched
omgz its too expensive still
omgz no front facing camera
omgz its locked to AT&T
omgz no stylus support
omgz no physical keyboard
omgz no haptic response
omgz the rateplans are too expensive

I'm so over it. They will complain about anything and everything.

My only complaint will be that I probably will no longer be able to set it on a desk and type with my two index fingers. It will probably roll around since it has a round back. :(

i'd say the copy/paste, MMS thing isnt really an iphone 3G thing but more the iphone software. Yes it is still an issue but it wont take a new version of the iphone to fix it. Just software update, and in all honesty i find it so much easier to email a picture to someone than send it thru MMS. The resolution is cut down substantially and the majority of the people im sending pictures to receive them on a smart phone. Copy/paste all i can say is i'd rather have a well thought out method for doing it than poorly implemented one

b) it's not even out yet can we complain when we actually get it?/QUOTE]

Puh-Leaze, As many times as people tried quoting the vaporware that was the SDK as a reason the iPhone wasn't far behind in features we can comment on the soon to be released iPhone 3G and those still missing features.

At least we are talking about what makes the phone less than satisfactory rather than blindly accepting it because Apple told us to. :D

hey skunk, what's your vote??!!

I put up near the top, it's locked to AT&T, the Bluetooth is circa 2000 as are many of the features.

And I'd like to add that it's still not that much of a smartphone to me. Once we get the ability to edit, save, export, etc, MS Office files and iWork files it will be a smartphone. Just being able to view them isn't enough.

I've been hearing a lot of things about the camera (quality and video capabilities) but the software things can be fixed easier.

After people grab this phone up and start hammering away on it, what do you think will be the most stated complaint about the phone? Messsage Boards attract more negative posts than positive posts, as people want to vent. Just curious what everyone thinks and maybe take a shot at predicting the future here!

- same things that were wrong with version 1 (copy/paste, mms, bluetooth, etc)?

I'm going to lay my money down that the most frequent negative comment we read about here after the release will be.......

the same things wrong with version 1 that apple didn't address.

Hell yeah. How hard is it to do some of this stuff, really now? I'd take Bluetooth or copy/paste over a scientific calculator any day.

lol....i can see the board meeting now:

suit 1: should we give them a decent camera or mms or the copy/paste we keep hearing about?

suit 2: no, give them the bluetooth, turn/by/turn gps and a horizontal touch keyboard.

suit 3: no, no guys....they need a scientific calculator.

jobs: k, looks like the calculator is it, I'll intro it as "one last thing" too....!
