Is it me, or does the home button look more circular?

snverhallen

The home button was always circular. Don't know how it can get "more" circular. :D

I think he means the white marking. On the current iPhone, while the physical button is circular, the white marking on it is a square with rounded corners, the one in the picture appears to be a circular physical button with a white circular marking.

Not really important, but interesting I suppose... :)

Is there a way to get the credit check and everything set up beforehand? I say this because I will be on a family plan and would rather just get the phone after work instead of bringing the owner of the account. Can I port my number over to ATT into a family plan?

I would ideally just want to bring a sheet of paper in and buy the iPhone and have them activate it according to what was already done.

Well... Mine is a square with rounded corners so you can get it more circular...
I understand what you are saying, the square thing on it does seem more circular than the current one, but I think that the other poster is referring to the physical button, and not the thing on it.

I've tried to get an answer to this one but I've had trouble getting concrete information. I have an older voice plan on AT&T. Is it possible to tack on the data plan like you were able to do with the old iPhone, or do you HAVE to pick one of the new voice/data plans? I do not currently have an iphone but I am upgrade eligible. I just don't want to lose my older, slightly better voice plan. Thanks if anyone can help. :)

I'm in the same situation and have an older family plan that has 150 more anytime minutes compared to the same priced family plan now a days. I've read and been told that I should just be able to add the $30 data plan to my existing family plan without a problem. Hopefully that's how it pans out.

I want to get the phone from the Apple store, but I think with this unanswered question, the fact that I have a corporate discount to ensue I keep and the fact that my wife is getting a new phone (non-iPhone) too leads me to believe I should probably need to head straight to the AT&T store. Hopefully they have 16GBs left in stock by 6 or 7 p.m. on Friday.

Sweet...wish I could get one of these bad boys, but I'm stuck with T-Mob until next year. Unless I pay that nasty termination fee, but I kind of like $$$ so I'll need to wait...

You can go to the AT&T store you are going to buy it from right now up to before the launch and get your credit check done in advance.

Why don't you try getting out of T-Mobile with that change to text message pricing they made...

You should be able to terminate your contract free of charge due to that..

It's for ALL NEW CUSTOMERS... and it applies to both stores... if you're a NEW customer (not currently an AT&T sub) a credit check will be performed whether you go to Apple or AT&T..

Apple stores throughout the United States are preparing this week for the iPhone 3G. Sources report that employees will receive training regarding the iPhone 3G beginning Tuesday and running through Thursday. In addition, all Apple retail stores will shut down their reservation queues on July 11. Customers will not be able to make reservations for the following programs: One to One, Personal Shopping, Workshops, Genius Bar, Youth Programs or Business. Reservations will be available again on July 12, 2008, but it is recommended that customers wait until the following week due to anticipated demand for the iPhone 3G.

Final details of the iPhone 3G sales event are to be hammered out on a conference call with Apple retail managers that will take place Monday, July 7th. Although AT&T has announced that they will be selling the iPhone 3G beginning at 8 a.m. local time Apple has yet to announce their own time of sale Calls to Apple PR go unanswered regarding this issue at press time.

Traditionally, Apple retail management receives details about new product releases on the Monday prior to said item’s release. Shortly after that, merchandise, signage, etc. begins to appear in the stores for deployment.

They were talking about the fact that you have to pay with check or credit card, and asking if that applies to both Apple stores AND AT&T stores. Not about credit checks...

Ok..so I'm currently a Verizion carrier and my contract ends on the 14th. But am dying to get the 3G on Friday! Does anyone know if its possible to establish a new phone number and then port my current number at a later date or are you stuck with that number until the contract expires? Might be an AT&T question. But I thought I'd ask here incase other people have the same ques.

I'm a current T-mobile customer and I went to an AT&T store here in Atlanta (at Atlantic Station) and signed up for new AT&T service last week. The guy asked if I wanted to port my T-mobile number right then or wait until I get the iPhone. Of course, I decided to wait because since the iPhone isn't out yet I wouldn't have been able to get calls for a week.

Long story short, you can establish a new phone number at AT&T and port your old number at a later date. Just don't cancel the contract with your current provider until after you port your number...

Hope this helps...

I believe that just applies to Apple stores...

Whether or not AT&T will change their policy for the new iPhone, I don't know.. but I've used cash before in AT&T corp. stores with no problem...

They may apply the "No Cash" policy for the launch..

As expected, iPhones will be activated in-store and must be paid for by check, credit card or gift card.

NO CHECKS. Only Credit Card or Gift card are allowed as apple can only run the transaction through the handheld register.

I just called a Canadian Apple Store, and the lady there said she doubts they will carry the phone at all. Might have to be a Rogers store for me.:(

I just called the Pentagon City (DC) Apple Store and they told me if you are NOT eligible for an upgrade but are an AT&T customer you will still be able to purchase from them. The gentleman said the only issues that may come up are with plan selection/issues due to having poor credit. I asked him what time they would open but he said, "We are still very hush about that but our store ours are from 10am-9:30pm."

you can do a credit check before hand, at any ATT&T store..but if the phone is not under your name you must bring the person with you...which sucks!!

Unless the account holder as said person as an "Authorized User" to the account.. That will enable the person listed as an "Authorized User" to purchase the phone.. As long as the "Authorized User" is the legal age to upgrade the contract.. which is 18..

Cash slows things down.
It needs to be counted.... and then change needs to be given.... and of course there's gunna be that one guy who wants to pay in like all 5's and 1's...

Plus the Apple Store can have a bunch of employees with the mobile terminals that take either credit cards or gift cards and would be able to ring customers anywhere diverting traffic in the store with more flexibility than everyone crammed in the front of the store around the registers.

1. Why do people think Apple store will be able to port your number, do credit check and assign you a new account with ATT faster than ATT store?
Employees at Apple haven't even been taught how to do any of the above yet. I think the wait will be worse than expected. 20-30 min minimum per new customer.

2. The wait on Friday will be hellish. Anyone who's done an activation/porting knows it will take 30min to do all that. Add some complaining customers and problems with eligibility issues.......it might as well be Friday the 13th.
