Which one do you prefer design wise?
I prefer the 3GS (white). The reason I got my 3GS a few weeks ago instead of the iphone 4 was:
1 iPhone 4 signal isn't as good
2 I prefer the looks of the 3GS
3 3GS is lighter
4 3GS is cheaper

I prefer the iPhone 4 by far. It feels fine in my hand, but looks stunning and is incredibly thin.
Technically, the iPhone 4 gives a better signal, and the iPhone 3GS is cheaper mainly because its almost 2 year old technology.

Funny you should criticize 3GS's technology when the iPhone 4 is built on the exact same tech. The 4 has the same CPU and GPU as the 3GS, which are the 2 most key components in any computer or phone system. They just upped the clock speed on the same Cortex A8 processor and stuck it in the 4.

Give me the 3GS shape with the iphone4 screen and a black aluminum back.

3GS fits best in my pocket.

I prefer the ergonomics of the 3GS, over the relatively slippery 4. I also like a hidden antenna no matter how stylish the 4 is thought to be. Yet when you have the best smartphone it hardly matters. Apple calls the shots & we fund it.

OK, prove me wrong. Please do. I can list hundreds of sources detailing the fact that the "A4" is nothing more then a Cortex A8 processor, and the PowerVR 535 GPU is used in the iPhone 3GS, 4 and original iPad. Now please prove me wrong.

I prefer the 4, I had the 3GS and now the 4 and much prefer it,

silly things (ignoring the screen etc) it can stand up, on a desk etc doesnt just fall on its back,

and as for signal, have you actually tried the 4? no difference in any area i've ever been to (still have the 3GS with me) and know quite a few people in the same situation. In the UK we dont have the same issues as much of the US, the main networks here have decent coverage so it isn't a issue,

Im surprised anyone is even questioning this. This has been common knowledge since day 1 of the iPhone4 release. Sorry guys, iPhone4 is based on old tech that is now end-of-life.

I wasn't questioning you, I was mocking you saying hundreds...

I prefer the design of the iPhone 4 but the iPhone 3G/3GS feels much better in the hand.

Even if it was built on the same architecture, it is still slower. What's your point?

iPhone 4 all the way. . . I do like the form factor of the 3G/3GS but the iP4 is a great design as well. I just liked the way the 3GS fells in my hand better.

I think that the OP is just Justifying his purchase over the iPhone 4 because it's cheaper.
The Signal is better on the iPhone 4, the death grip doesn't affect you unless you want it to affect you.
The iPhone 3GS looks very pretty compared to the current smartphones but the plastic on the back is very Apple-2007-ish
The Weight of the 4 is 137grams and the iPhone 3GS is 135grams... there's no way to notice the difference with your bare hand

They are pretty much neck and neck in real world use. The 4 uses the extra 200mhz to drive the display. But my overall point was don't call the 3GS old tech when the 4 uses the same tech.

That is exactly what the OP is doing... I don't care if he/she comes back and denies it... It is written all over his original post on this thread.

The "retina" display alone is enough incentive for me to select the ip4.

Besides IMO better appearance you got the added features like...

Facetime
front and rear camera
HD video recording

and as the above poster mentioned already, no one will feel the slightest difference on the weight of 2 grams....

It amazes me that a person could possibly think the design of the iPhone 3G/S is better than the iPhone 4. iPhone 4 is built of much better materials. The screen makes the other iPhone screens hard to look at. And the list goes on and on. I loved my earlier iPhones at the time, but could NEVER go back after an iPhone 4. Almost everything about it has been improved. I feel like some just try to justify their cheaper purchase.

There is MORE to technology than a processor, RAM, etc.
It's the whole thing. HD recording is technology. "Retina" screen is technology. Get it?

iPhone4 in 3GS body any time.
I really hate iPhone4 design and I do mean I Hate it.

What suprizes me the most is the lack of silicone cases that round the edge of the iPhone4
