That's SIR Jony Ive to us...

Titles aside... I still have a problem believing he had any say in the iP5.

It wouldn't surprise me if the truth be known, it was Steves idea to cling to this design.

After all, J. Ive is a world class designer, and as such he's a brilliant creative guy that's highly self motivated to create a fresh new look.

Designers of lesser caliber than he would never make such an incredibly small change to an existing design & call it new. Much less be proud of it.

I bet that he's dying to be turned loose to create what only he can. Perhaps now that Jobs is but a ghost of the past...

J. Ive will be free at last !

Yeah, over this past week, yeah definitely become more accustom to the lightness. Also fine now with the warmer yellow screen.

But he makes designs that are as simple amd elegant as possible.

Geometrically speaking there's not much you can do to make a thin slate more simple.

Adding stuff or making it different is a backwards step.

You're thinking in terms that are not congruent with the well-known Apple philosophy. Your comments show that you haven't read the books.

My cased iPhone 5 (InCase Slider black) is actually LIGHTER than my uncased iPhone 4.

That's pretty damn amazing.

Also, with the case on, the iPhone 5 is about as thick as my 4 was without a case.

If I put my iPhone 4 in a case (InCase Slider as well) it feels like an ungainly brick now.

i live and die by the incase slider. since the iphone 3g. best case hands down. slim and strong. (pauses for sexual innuendos)

What impresses me most is its screen. Not how light it is. And I'm not talking about it being taller, (which I love too), I mean its colors. When I look at a 4S now it seems like the screen is somehow dying... lol

Steve jobs died a year ago the iPhone 5 design was probably started 3 years ago. The iPhone 6 will probably be the last phone that he had any say in, with the iPhone 7 concept drawings were probably on his desk.

If I remember correctly a few years ago someone looking through developers program stumbled on code for phones up to the iPhone 6; which was why everyone thought the iPhone 4 was getting the bigger screen.

I believe your take on this is quite accurate.

Even if off a bit here or there, the bottom line is I am eager to see what the "New Apple" designs and products are like.

Cheers... :)

A friend of mine updated his 4S to iOS 6 last night and I asked him if he had seen flyover. He said no, and I proceeded to show him.

Wow, how jerky/slow is it compared to the 5, even flicking from 'standard' to 'satellite'.

I thought the 4S was fast when I had it!

Glad I plumped up the £619.

:D

You lot are cruel :D

Any iPhone 4 or 4s owner probably looks like this after reading these comments ;)

Why change what works? They're selling hundreds of millions of each device. Apple has targeted the layman market, people who want something that is easy to set up and maintain, something that "just works." If they change the design radically they risk alienating their main customer base.

Making it thinner, lighter and a little bigger but still able to be handled with one hand is clearly the way to go.

It feels much heavier then the 5 BUT it has a feeling of awesome quality about it. The 5 looks very nice but something about it being so much lighter makes me feel like it has less quality.

Apple has compare the iPhone to a quality swiss watch, sorry, but the quality Swiss watched like Rolex, iwc etc have weight, you feel like your wearing something made of quality.

Had he stated on ios 5, he could have compared maps with you and laughed all night long ;)

The iPhone 4 feels substantial when you hold it in your hands, offers a nice sense of security for some strange reason. I enjoy the featherweight feel of the iPhone 5 and Galaxy Nexus as well. Would be nice if the iPhone 5 has the same hefty feel of the iPhone 4, incorporating a larger battery for longer lasting life. Seriously I never thought of the iPhone 4 as being fat, and making things smaller and smaller may not serve much practical purposes later on down the road. There's a physical and practical limit (given current technologies) and it will plateau, then what? I am curious to see what the smartphone market will transform into in the next few years.

I still really like the 4/4S but after using the i5 (only been 8 days!) when I look at my 4 the screen seems so small.

In reality it's not that much different but when I look at my 4 it's surprising how small the screen looks now lol :)

Funny how just a few grams only matters now, and was conveniently ignored while the 4 & 4S were current models.

AppleLand is where one visits, when they want to experience the true meaning of the word "Hypocritical", it's a way of life in Apples walled garden :D

How did we ever live with it?

Bobby loved the weight of the 4 & 4S, even saying it was perfect and felt well built, blah, blah, blah... Now it is light, makes the 4S look like crap, light is better, blah, blah, blah. The hypocrisy from this guy is funny.

He put up with it because it has a Apple logo on the back.

He also said that Apple Maps was far and away better than Google Maps(before it was even released) and pointed out the fly over that nobody cares about as a big deal. Well, now Maps sucks, Cook appologized for it sucking and suggested you all download something else.

How's that feel Bobby?...LOL

Sometimes the 5 feels so light that it is borderline flimsy; like as if the screen is so long it might snap. But the duality of it all is that the lightness effect is what directly makes the new device feel so smooth.

But I don't think it feels too light but its important to note I felt the same notion if only for a brief moment of time that made me consider if it felt cheap. But no it doesn't. But I feel you though. I see where's your coming from and what you were thinking because it was a passing thought for me too but no.

Try Galaxy S3 and you'll never come back to iPhone ;)

Not at all. I realize that most of the 5 owners who had a 4S are just saying that it's so much better because it makes them feel better about their purchase. I've tested both phones, and the 5 isn't good enough for me to upgrade early and get rid of my 4S. It's a huge upgrade from the 4, not 4S, AT ALL. It really isn't that much faster.

And to be honest, I prefer the weight of the 4S. The 5 feels cool in your hand, but also frail. I really prefer the quality feel of the 4/4S. Of course, eventually when I upgrade, I will have to move to a lighter phone. But at this point, I'm enjoying my 4S. Not a single bit of envy, or jealousy.

After putting a thin case and a glass screen protector my iPhone 5 now weighs about the same as a 4S.
