And what about the millions upon millions of people with iPod Touch 2nd and 3rd gens and iPhone 3G and 3GS' that will be trying to download and activate iOS4? Don't you think that will be dragging out for at least a few days too? That will make your activation attempt on the 23rd difficult anyway.
What are you talking about?
Isn't it on a monday, and there is no activation process. you download it and install as far as i know.

stress levels for whom? people who ordered and feel entitled to get their devices before anyone else and get them activated.

You can wait. It won't kill you. Server issues come and go. If you can't activate the second UPS/FED EX gets to your door, you won't die. They aren't delivering a kidney.

if im getting my device on the 24th and you after ill have it activated before you anyway. im just saying for att activation servers apple should release a day early to let some of the 600,000 phones be activated. if not thats fine I have to wait and i am. im speaking on att part. you might get yours on the 24th and make a thread sayin screw att they told me i have to activate on the 27th.. because 40,000 people are ahead of me.

common sense is what this thread is about. letting activations start a day early or risk another melt down on activation day.

hmm... you got me thinking, maybe that's why some of the at&t orders were saying they would arrive on the 25th...

in any event, if it wont activate when i receive mine, hopefully there wont be too much of a problem if i just wait til 3 am or something...

My AT&T rep I dealt with said that it's the 25th because the iPhone orders are coming in two shipments, one for the first-come first-serve on the 24th, and one for the pre-orders on the 25th.

That's actually not a terrible idea. If they did something like;

Apple online orders ship the 23th

Retail stores release the 24th

ATT ships land on the 25th

This could possibly help relieve some of the server stress during activation. Then again, it might not have any difference at all. But yeah, don't flame the OP, he's on to something there.

Either way I'm sure the 24th will bring 341 more end of the world style threads.

Sam I think you've missed the point. If people are spending 8 hours again just trying to activate the phone they bought that's bad for ATT and Apple. They should at least make a reasonable business effort to make sure that doesnt occur. That's not entitelment that's not being a moron.

i did not call you arrogant, I said you calling me entitled was an arrogant perspective.

You are not thinking of it from a business standpoint. A smoother customer service is an advantage. lots of competition coming out. apple isn't the only game in town any more and they still have one carrier. Getting the 500K pre orders done a few hours earlier makes it a SMOOTHER PROCESS.

It's common sense for them to try muliple methods, not just this one to try and smooth things over time.

"I think you are being arrogant and impractical to the original poster." You didn't call me arrogant? LOL.. OK. Whatever.

And I am thinking about this from a business standpoint - NOT an ENTITLED CONSUMER who wants to play with his toy immediately. So how about my other comment, huh? What if they did activations by state. Or by last name. Would you be ok with that. Or are YOU being biased by YOUR desire to be first.

There will be no smooth process, honestly. It will be what it will be. Even everything working smoothly - people will have issues for one reason or another.

People need to relax. A rush to pre-order, a rush to get your confirmation email, a rush to see shipping dates, a rush to see UPS/FED's status changes, a rush when it's out for delivery, a rush to activate...

It's a phone.

Of course, haven't you heard...AT&T will be dispatching thousands of CSRs on winged unicorns to hand deliver them to lucky June 15th preorderers on a white gold and platinum platters!

You'll still have to activate yourself tho ;-)

Yesterday was awful--Apple is giving out $100 gift certificates to people who it did not go well. So apple doesn't agree with you. To prevent this from occuring again, and more gift certificates have to go out the OP has a good idea.

Again - put things into perspective. Call me arrogant or whatever. I personally don't care.

If it takes awhile for you to activate your phone, you'll survive. SOMEHOW you'll survive.

no doubt ill survive. im just saying for att sake. look at all threads yesterday how people couldnt order. im sure there will be threads on people not getting activation done. i just think its smart to help out by starting activations a day early.

as for me like i said. ill be cutting my sim into a micro sim.. no need to activate just pop in and roll. so this idea is not for me to gain a quicker activation.

Apple isn't handing them out - people are demanding them. And Apple is offering SOME people.

You act as if Apple is blindly handing out GC's to everyone. Talk about a POOR business idea.

Again - Apple doesn't have to worry. People will activate when they activate.

ETA - yesterday was awful and stressful for SOME. A lot of OTHER people have perspective. There are a lot of "cry babies" on MR who should have the screen name "Veruca Salt"

Again. It's a PHONE.

Another entitlement thread?

I don't get where this entitelement thing is coming from. Are most of the posters suggesting that have some sort of cultural issue. Maybe it's an international thing.

You'll get your product when you get it. What is this Soviet Russia or some kind of communist country?

People in America expect when they buy things, they may have to pay a lot more but the process will be somewhat organized. Reciepts and confirmations, not lots of errors and mistakes.

Not people writing orders down in pencil then losing them.

I don't think the idea here is about entitelement, it's about how can we have a better process.

Another entitlement thread?

entitlement thread no? maybe a bit of common sense yes. let some activate a day early to relive the stress att activation servers will have the next day. if apple n att said they was going to pick a few 100,000 thousands to do it.. and i wasnt picked i wouldnt be upset. just means if i wasnt making my old sim into a micro sim my activation would be a bit smoother. so again entitlement? NO . a bit of common sense? YES

I know at least 5 people who have gotten them personally. if Apple agree with you--they would not be handing any out. Apple doesn't. I don't. You are not making any sense.

What is your definition of the word entitlement? I don't think it means, what you think it means.

+1 it seems You and I are the only ones who see it as an opportunity to make the process better

edit: i wont care if i have to wait until the 24th like we all will in the end. yesterday was bad. I was fortunate to get my order in. if we have to deal with 10hr activations on the 24th no one here will like it. id rather see smooth activations than another disaster like yesterday.

Why wait until the 23rd? Why not ship them today? Better yet, why bother with fedex? Just have them delivered by pixies. Look mine just arrived via uniorn! Be back later, gotta activate it by telepathy!

Uhhh, I still can't get my order in so I'm going to have to wait until July! Be happy yours is coming on launch date.

im very happy im getting on the 24th. And im sorry you couldnt complete your order in time. but at least you wont deal with the headache that might show up on the 24th. thats what the thread is about. a smoother way of handling the activation process. have fun once you receive yours.

I'm not making any sense? Ok. As your fellow cohort in this thread even stated - it seems that only you two see eye to eye. Yet others, including myself see a level of entitlement being displayed. So I don't think it is *I* who needs to examine the definition.

what do you not understand? its not about entitlement. its just about making a smoother process for all of us who spent the money on the device. maybe you want to possible spend 8+ hours activation the phone you probably spent 8 hours plus trying to order it. if so then you know what i will agree with you. because it seems as thats how its supposed to be. 16+ hours to buy and activate a new phone. geesh att is a great company im glad i can spend all that time getting a phone to work:rolleyes:
