this is how its supposed to be i guess

"att- would all of you iphone buyers want to activate a day ahead of reservers and walk ins? just to avoid the problems WE will have tomorrow?

us- no we dont want to we will just wait 8 hours to activate with the rest of the masses.

att- are you sure? it will clog up for everyone tomorrow. the reservers, pre orderers, and walk ins. might be worst than 6/15

us- yea were sure we like slow systems. we dont have common sense to make this process smooth for all the masses.

att- ok buh bye see you tomorrow. dont come to macrumors saying you hate us. we gave you a chance to sort this out."

this thread is about: the easy way or the hard way nothing more nothing less

I think they should just start shipping them. I mean, who cares about the 24th. When the dude makes it, put it on a truck, and send it. If you are lucky and get it tomorrow, awesome. If you get it the 24th, awesome. I am sure FedEx would like that too... as I imagine they are going to hate having to have everything sitting there in a warehouse with a "don't deliver till 24th" sticker on it.

Plus, they should give everyone who managed to order it online a cool sticker that they can tell their friends in a month that they are extra cool for spending 6 hours pushing the refresh button instead of getting work done.

They should give the people waiting in lines a free puppy too... I mean if these people have all the time in the world to wait in a line, then they have time to look after a puppy, and will get them outside playing instead of staring at their sweet new pocket toy for hours.

Just my arrogant opinion.

Edit: Actually, I hope that the 24th sucks for AT&T. I hope that it breaks their servers, and everyone complains. The worse it goes for AT&T, the more pressure Apple puts on them to either get their act in order, or move on to more providers. If Apple were smart (and they probably are) they would surely have some sort of performance clause in their contracts stating that if AT&T completely sucks, they get to bail.

Wait, probably not, otherwise they would have bailed already.

So, I wish for a horrible experience for everyone on the 24th... that will make things better for iPhone5.

wow.... you people are rude! first of all... i got NO sense of entitlement from the OP.... he brought up a viable and REASONABLE idea/solution to what is going to be a nightmare!

it's not like the phones aren't available to have them out to customers.... last year they shipped them and they were all scheduled to be delivered a day or two early.... but apple had UPS and fedex hold them... why not just let them deliver and ease up on the whole activation mess?

if yesterday showed them anything... it should have showed them that the 24th is going to be worse than the 3G fiasco!!!!!

thanx for the comment. I dont see why people thought I was saying we or (i) should be entitled early activation.

anyway im in socal also did you manage to get your order in on time?

This is a reasonable idea. It would be hell on the 23rd to activate your phone, but it would clear out 600,000 activations. In case of trouble, it will give them a night to work on improvements. Then the next day everyone in the store will only be competing for server resources from others in store. Really, it wouldn't be the end of the world if people were using an iPhone the day before the "official" release date. In the end everyone would be able to use their phone when they get it.

If you think this is another "entitlement" thread, then you obviously are new here. Activation has been a problem in the past, and spreading it out makes sense. I'll be laughing on the 24th when nobody is able to activate.

Actually, I wonder how this will affect FedEx. I think I read somewhere that this was 10 times the amount of preorders last year. I seriously doubt they routinely deal with a spike in packages of 600,000 for one day. Maybe they will balance the load by shipping some with UPS?

Apple should have said:

iPhone 4 delivers as early as June 24th.

This would have helped with the overwhelming sense of entitlement and disappointment to come.

Uh, ever heard of Christmas? The entire month of Dec is a huge spike.

FedEx and UPS delivery millions of packages every day. I don't think another 600K will be a problem. Apple will probably split up the orders between the carriers and the carriers if one or the other can't handle the complete load, and both will probably call "all hands on deck" on the 24th. It won't be a big deal to them.

I knew the idea was good

apple should give us who was able to order iphone 4 delivery on the 23rd. the reason is to help with activation downtimes. if most of us would get and activate on the 23rd it would be cool. sure there will be activation issues on that day also. but not like it would be on the 24th when all are trying to activate including the reserves and walk ins. sounds like a good idea to me a 2 day activation event.

what do you guys think?

I kinda got ripped by most people in this thread with exception of a few people. I guess apple thought sending iphones a day early would be good also. I activated mines no problem today. To those that said I was entitled I hope you get your devices soon. and to the few who saw what i was saying as a way to ease activation stress I hope your phones arrived today.

good luck to everyone.
