Hello guys, I'm very curious about this. I currently own an iPhone 3GS and had a 3G before. So I don't know what to say about the iPhone 4's Retina Display, since I haven't seen one in person, cause the iPhone 4 isn't available in my country yet.
Just wanna know if the screen is a true reason to upgrade.
Feel free to post your iPhone 4 vs iPhone (3GS,3G,2G) screens side by side, just to tell the difference.

I own both and they are different by a big margin, after looking at my ip4, it is hard to focus on the 3GS screen, however they are both great phones.

If you haven't seen it No. If you have Yes.

When I use my gf's 3gs and it looks so bad. I can't believe I never noticed it before!

After using the 4 for about 2 days, you'll find it hard to go back to the 3gs/3g display.

In short, the retina display is amazing.

No matter how many of us tell you "yes" you won't believe us until you actually see it.

I had a 3GS and had it just been the new retina screen, there is no way I would have upgraded. Sure its nice, but it really isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be. That's how I feel anyway.

I wasn't really buying my iPhone 4 for the retina display, I was buying it for the form factor. It looks less cheap then the iPhone 3GS and much more appealing.

Then I saw the screen.. and it was magical. ;)

The thing is that I bought my 3GS in June (this year). Yeah, I knew the iPhone 4 was coming somewhere mid June, and I was 100% sure it will have a better screen. But the 3GS was only 100$ for the 16GB model. So I said, "hell yeah, I'm gonna buy this one for the speed and camera". I gave my old iPhone 3G away. The 3GS is 1000x times better than the 3G. But hey... the iPhone 4 is 1000x times better than 3GS.
So, my question is: can I exchange or buy the iPhone 4 on my existing contract or do I have to make another contract? Cause I'm not willing to pay 200€+ on the iPhone 4 + 30€ each month for 2 years straight.

The screen, in my opinion, is the #1 reason to have an iPhone 4 over a different generation.

It won't blow you away when you see it the first time. You'll say "ok, that's nice."

But after a day or two of using it you won't want to go back. That's when you look at the old phones and say "wow, that's pretty bad."

^^
This

I was completely blown away by it. I haven't gotten mine yet, but my son got his. When we look at my 3G and then his iPhone 4, the difference is amazing.

Disagree, it blew me away the first time I saw it.

Cool. I'm glad it did! It certainly is amazing. This display is the main reason I won't buy an iPad this year. I'll be getting one after they upgrade the screen, so I certainly appreciate the technology! But it took me a day or two to really "get" it.

That's just me, though. I'm happy to hear other folks aren't as jaded as I apparently am.

The display, the longer battery life, and the higher quality picture and video are worth the upgrade. And FaceTime (if you have any other friends or family with an iPhone 4) is pretty awesome.

If you're coming from an older model, it'll be like watching a blu-ray movie for the first time. The clarity actually takes some getting used to.

The screen + battery is worth the upgrade.

Retina blows everything else out of the water. It's amazing. I have a high resolution photo on my lock screen, and every time I wake up my phone I think I'm looking through a window.

If you browse the web frequently from your phone, it is more comfortable and you don't have to zoom in as far to get readable text. The old screen is almost as functional for browsing and causes no strain to my eyes (you just need to zoom in a bit more). While the screen is much better on my 4, it doesn't add that much the overall iOS experience once you get past the initial "wow". Frankly I would not bother to upgrade from a 3GS to a 4.

On the other hand, the RD makes my want higher DPI on my Laptop and iPad.

I think my eyes are too spoiled from Retina display. Once you go Retina you can't go back. Even my iPad screen looks outdated now.

That is hilariously short-sighted.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

The screen alone has definitely worth the upgrade to me. :)
