New display is the best thing about ip4.

I really did feel like my vision improved. It was trippy.

I think my eyes are too spoiled from Retina display. Once you go Retina you can't go back. Even my iPad screen looks outdated now.

I agree. I cant look at anything in my house anymore after getting IP4. My computers, TV's all need RD now!!!!!

Right now as im typing this on my Display crappy laptop.

:(

I read somewhere that it looks like a demo phone with the fake screen. It does. It looks fake. But no, this is the real deal. Looks like a demo with a light behind it.

The screen is amazing, personally I felt it was worth getting the iP4 for the screen alone

This is a trick question or something right? Have you been to an Apple store or AT&T store? Unless your blind you will notice a huge difference.

The screen, in my opinion, is the #1 reason to have an iPhone 4 over a different generation.

This.

I have to say that the screen is also the most surprising thing about the phone. Prior to turning it on for the first time I was kind of ambivalent about the i4 screen. I'm pretty much spoiled now.

That's like asking if one should stick with an SDTV or upgrade to HDTV. If you've never seen the difference then of course you wouldn't worry about getting one but once you lay eyes on one then there's no turning back. :D

The thing is that I bought my 3GS in June (this year). Yeah, I knew the iPhone 4 was coming somewhere mid June, and I was 100% sure it will have a better screen. But the 3GS was only 100$ for the 16GB model. So I said, "hell yeah, I'm gonna buy this one for the speed and camera". I gave my old iPhone 3G away. The 3GS is 1000x times better than the 3G. But hey... the iPhone 4 is 1000x times better than 3GS.
So, my question is: can I exchange or buy the iPhone 4 on my existing contract or do I have to make another contract? Cause I'm not willing to pay 200€+ on the iPhone 4 + 30€ each month for 2 years straight.

Really? You can name me 1000 things that are better on the i4 than the 3gs? I'd love to hear this list.

Going from my Nexus to i4, there really wasn't that big of a WOW factor -- therefore thought the screen was and still is overhyped. however if coming from the outdated and crappy 3gs or below -- you'll be pleased.

I spent over $200 for this (unlocked). The screen itself was my selling point. There are some sites and PDF files that do not text-adjust on my 3GS so I have to zoom in and swipe left and right and left and right just to read a paragraph. With the iPhone 4, I can read it in full view with crisp text.

It's like if you've owned a standard def TV for ages and you've been perfectly happy with it. You don't mind not paying a premium for HD channels and you've never spent any real time watching HD TV or Movies. Stay away from the tech, and you'll be perfectly fine. But get exposed to HD in any significant way, and suddenly you're really going to be able to start noticing the difference to the point where it's hard to go back to standard. You can tolerate it if you have to, but you really start to want that HD.

That's kind of how the retina screen was for me. I didn't think it would really be a huge deal until I actually got my iPhone 4 and put it side by side with my 3g. The difference is there, and movie, games, etc. definitely look MUCH better.

That being said, the screen alone wouldn't have been enough to convince me to upgrade, since I had no idea how good it was until after I already paid for it and had spent significant time with it. My dealbreakers were the speed (remember I came froma 3g), FaceTime (long distance relationship), HD video (never carry my point and shoot anywhere anymore) and the fact that someone bought my 3g for more than I paid for the ip4 =P.

Being a poor college kid, I had that slight depression that can happen immediately after spending large amounts of money on something for oneself. I felt this as I held my phone at the office for the first time (around 8am 6/24/2010) and slid to unlock it.

That feeling immediately went away when the home screen appeared.

The Retina Display and the pure speed of the device, coming from a 2G, for both data and physical processing power, made me realize I had made the right decision.

I'll never forget that moment. :apple:

I recently went to an Apple Store and looked at the iPhone. iPhone 4's display is just AMAZING! I never seen a cell phone display so bright and high-res like iPhone 4. Once you look at it, you can't go back. :p

The ip4 display is so good, I'm not really sure it can be improved a whole lot more. I saw the samsung super AMOLED screen the other day, it's good, if I didn't have an ip4, I would have thought it was great, the screen on the ip4 however is still much better.

I'd appreciate an ip5 with a 4" screen that maintains the quality of this smaller one.

I had a 3GS and had it just been the new retina screen, there is no way I would have upgraded. Sure its nice, but it really isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be. That's how I feel anyway.
I agree.

While the retina display is stunning, the true test is a side by side comparison with another high quality display. When compared to the Super Amoled of my Samsung Galaxy S, Captivate, the difference is much smaller. Apple's retina has a slight edge by virtue of it's higher resolution, yet in this real world test, these two are both terrific.

i really think this might change the way other phones, computer screens and even tv screens are. the retina display is just plain awesome!

I agree.

No, no, no mon frere.

You must understand the underlying technologies in both displays to make an informed decision.

Samsung uses Pentile matrix technology in their displays, which is quit inferior to the display tech Apple chose to go with (LG manufactured).

Inaccurate colour reproduction (greys look more like pink) and not a true resolution of 480X800 (392x653 is the effective resolution)
