Was this posting really necessary? Bashing people who are too poor to buy an iPhone... Seriously? You do realize that the cost of ownership between an iPhone and an Android phone is pretty much the same right? People who are poor are worried about bigger things in their life like keep their families clothed and fed. They could care less about who has the best and coolest looking smartphone.

I am not sure what the point of your post was other then to get people upset.

They don't have irony in South Dakota?

If anything, they will not switch the position of the antennas, but cover the stainless steel with a special coding, so that bridging cannot be possible by human skin.

LOL Maybe the reason why Steve Job's unit didn't work at the unveiling presentation, was because he was holding the bottom left corner.

Add me to the ones that CAN'T do this

I can't get my iphone4 to do that at all. It's nice to know that it's not all of them. This, hopefully, means that people with affected phones will be able to get a replacement ... vs it being a design error.

The network is STILL ATT though, and I have dropped calls ... as usual. ( In NYC )

I'm so happy

7:30am - iPhone 4 received
9:07am - iPhone 4 finally activated
9:30am - First call fails
10:02am - Wireless internet access disappears in my hands
11:15am - More calls cut out
11:45am - iPhone 4 returned for refund

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple started giving away free bumpers to all iPhone 4 owners, much like how Nintendo gave away free rubber sleeves to Wii remote owners who were chucking their remotes into their TVs.

My phone duplicates this exactly. While sitting inside my house, holding with the lower left corner covered all bars are dropped. It doesn't seem to affect it as much outside with very clear, strong signals though.

Actually, poor people are often poor because they've bought the latest and greatest iPhone / iPad / iWhatever when they can't afford it.

(This is an opinion based on real life experiences witnessing dumb poor f**ks do exactly this)
You're an entitled idiot.

I believe all phones have this problem and those that don't are either in veyr strong signal areas are their hands aren't as conductive as others either because of humidity or just different skin types and static or something.

This DOES NOT seem to be a "problematic batch" Unless by problematic batch you mean the entire release of Iphone 4.

I hear that Apple is changing their logo in light of recent developments:

Wait for it.....

bridging them in a close, continuous bridge (as in putting your palm or finger over the seam directly. if your fingers straddle the seam, you are still making a connection between the antennae, however it doesn't degrade the signal since the distance for the connection is longer, less conductive?!?

I think everyone is misunderstood here.

Antennae do NOT pull electrons out of the air.

They simply need to resonate with electromagnetic pulses going through the air at 1.9ish GHz

When you bridge the connection it interferes with the antenna by changing the length, thus the harmonic frequency changes and the antenna is useless on the band the 3g operates.

"Brilliant engineering" my a$$.

I was honestly thinking about going iPhone this time due to the great experience with the iPad, but after reading this stuff, I'm steering clear.

It appears to be a major design flaw, imo.

Time to issue a massive RECALL cancel all launch day festivities, apple. Everyone in line GO HOME, party's canceled

Bluetooth effect?

Does it make any difference if WiFi, Bluetooth or GPS are enabled? If you are seeing the effect, does it stop if you switch all the other radios off?

Just got my iPhone 4, was really worried about what was on this thread... NO PROBLEMS! I don't wanna call anyone liars or trolls but I have no issues and am getting 3.2 speeds on my 3G! LOVING THIS!

My advice, get it for yourself because I am not having any* issues. Tried holding every single way I could and never lost a bar.

I was about to write something about you being an entitled ass, but then I saw "Location: London," and it all made sense to me.

Right, exactly.

ALL iPHONE 4s will have this problem. It is not a case by case basis with the phone, it is simply how strong the signal is where you live. This is why some people are experiencing it and some are not.

Where do you live??

NYC is known to have very strong signal everywhere.

That may not be enough. This isn't necessarily a straight conductance issue of actually bridging the two antennas, the proximity of your hand changes the characteristics of the antenna so some of the effect may be just because your hand is close to them both it causes interference.

The bumper may work to reduce this as much because it keeps your hand a distance (albeit a very small distance) away from the antennas as much as stopping your hand electrically conducting between them.

I put a thin strip of clear tape over that area and now I am getting a single bar loss over a 5 minute period. So for me at least this is a quick and easy fix. It also isn't very noticeable.
