I don't have anything under the screen but I have specks under the glass on the back on top of the Apple logo. It actually looks pretty sweet.

I just noticed I have dust or a dead pixel. Not sure how to tell which. I would feel bad returning it...like I was being too picky. But damn, I paid money for this and I notice it constantly! (I've had the phone 2 days!)

If I bought at Best Buy do I still bring it to Apple?

So I discovered a single spec of dust on my iphone 4. It really bothers me now knowing it's there... so I called up apple and said to make an appointment for exchange. I just wanna make sure all of you got new ones? with new charger and earphones? I DO NOT WANT A REFURBISHED ONE!!! gosh... I also never thought i was and OCD freak... =/ oh and did u guys return the old one with the box and everything?

Thanks!

THERE ARE NO REFURBISHED ONES YET...

Refurbishing takes time.. my god...

If you want a phone without dust in it, go get a Nokia.

sorry, I couldn't resist after reading some of the pathetic replies in this forum :p

P.S. Same to the guy that has a dead pixel. If you want a phone without dead pixels, get a Nokia damn it.

I was hoping that dust under the screen would be a thing of the past with the iPhone 4, as the screen is now laminated to the glass so dust couldn't physically get between.
Oh well, hope I can go a while before I have a problem with this.

I have one small piece of (what seems to be) metal stuck under the glass, below the front camera. It doesn't affect much since it isn't in the screen and it isn't blocking the camera, but it still is very bothersome to look at. As nitpicky as it may be, I'm going to see if I can get it replaced sometime this week.

i have one tiny black dot on the top left, but it is only really visible on a light background and when you hold it on an angle. i have ocd, but i have no yellowing, no antenna, proximity, or camera issues so i'll keep my phone.

Here's what you do. Go to Best Buy or somewhere like that and look at their small camera bags that fit on your belt. I got one from Lowe Pro for $15 that has a zipper up each side. The iPhone 4 fits perfectly and easily slips in and out. All my credit cards and cash go in a pocket on the front which eliminates carrying a wallet.

The best part? No dust or chance of scratches from the pocket. 

Back when I got my first 3G I swapped it for a new one at an Apple store for this very reason without any troubles. I then swapped that new one and the next one one before settling for my fourth 3G in 2 days which had one speck stuck on the edge. I've just got my 3G out again to have a look, it doesn't look too disimilar to a snow globe in there. After months of use and decreased care for the shininess of your iPhone, you won't notice dust in or out.

Replacing your phone is just postponing the inevitable and using up your own time. I highly doubt you'll be able to replace them for dust speckles a few months down the line, but for now, you probably will. The space inside the phone is not a vacuum; it's going to get dust inside. My iPhone 4 (after wiping and looking very, very closely) appears to be dust free for now (at least on the front). I'd give it a week before there's 5+ speckles.

Just another reason to get a case ;)

I have one speck of dust under the glass on the back of the phone. At first I thought it was on the top..as the way it reflects its hard to tell. But when you look under a close spotlight you can see its not on the surface but underneath.

By the way word of caution..sometimes dirt gets lodged between the glass and the plastic frame that holds the glass in place. Your temptation might be to get the corner of a piece of a paper to get the dirt out. You will get the dirt out, but there is a glue holding the glass there. You end up un-smoothing the glue and making it look like more dirt in there..and you have no chance at all of removing it!

I have 3 - and they were there when I pulled it out of the box. However, they're so minute & in places where they're not all that noticeable unless I go to something with a full white screen.

being that the screen and glass are fused together on the iphone 4, it at least won't get any worse. i just discovered a speck on my brand new iphone 4, though it's off to the side.. i think i'm going to just live with it as i've gone down the slippery slope of exchanges in the past.. it only serves to make me become even more neurotic and crazy about these things!

I had dust under my screen twice on my 3GS, and both times Apple swapped it out for no cost.

I know that I would definitely go in for my iPhone 4 if it had dust under the screen.

I had a single spec of dust underneath my screen, and they swapped it out (for a refurb of course) without even batting an eye. I know alot of people don't want a refurb, but I seriously couldn't tell the difference between this and a brand new one, and I'm scrutinizing it pretty thoroughly.

Long story short, if you have any dust under there at all, GO TO THE APPLE STORE and they'll help you out in about 10 minutes

just noticed mine

Turned on my iPhone 4 today and as it was turning on I notice a galaxy of dust of both sides.

Called apple care and the first guy said go buy at&t...yeah so anyways....

I scheduled an appt. for tomorrow...The OTHER person I talked to said that absolutely there should be no dust. We shall see how my new 1 goes which stinks cause I have not 1 problem other than dust. But if that much dust has gotten in on both sides then something is not right.

Yeah, with my experience with the 3G, I went through about 5-6 phones before finding one that only had MINIMAL dust. I was pretty disappointed. I even found some with fingerprints on the inside of the glass! The annoying "geniuses" kept claiming it was normal. I've found this to be a pretty slippery slope in the past. The harder you look, the more imperfections you'll find. As I'm typing, my macbook pro's screen is all covered in dust and dirt that I've not bothered to clean up. So for me it's more of a psychological obstacle to overcome.

With the new fused glass and LCD, at least dust shouldn't get WORSE. While I know I have a single tiny fleck of dust in my screen, I have to actively search for it on a white screen in order to find it. So I've decided that I can live with it. My wife and my brother's iphone 4's both have one or two flecks of dust. I think it'll be difficult to find one that's perfect. But then again, this issue has beaten me down in the past.

Really disappointing to hear about this happening all over again. I was beginning to think that since no one was talking about it, together with he fact the screen is fused again to the glass, this wasn't an issue. I've had this issue on every 3G/3GS I've had as well as my iPad (and my dads), iPod Touch, and MacBook. I would assume like the MacBook, it may be left over debris from the steel (or aluminum in the case of the MacBook) being cut.

Thought about it and cancelled...

After thinking about it...I feel better with my choice. You don't notice unless you focus your eyes on it...BUT at the same time it shouldn't be there. Maybe when in a few months IF the new batches come out and there appears to be nothing wrong I will but for now...nothing else wrong except dust. For the heck of it I checked out the EVO discussion boards...saaaaaame problems:D

I just had my original iPhone 4 replaced yesterday afternoon (not even 24 hours ago) and when I got home from the store and took a close look at the new replacement phone (which came factory sealed in the retail box) I noticed that just to the left of the home button there was a spot that I couldn't seem to clean off...I realize now that it is under the glass...I know it is not really that big of a deal, but it DOES bother the **** out of me, especially when the phone I just returned was flawless in the fit and finish sense...

My iPhone 4 also has the same speck to the left of the home button! Mine won't clean off and is under the glass. Wish I had not seen it. While it's not under the LCD it is still something that bothers me. My phone has no antenna issues so I hate to return it and also wonder if I'm being too nitpicky. Did you return yours?

Just to follow up on my previous post, I took a trip to the Apple Store today and spoke with a Genius there. I was in and out with a replacement in under 5 minutes, no questions asked. He said that the debris under the glass was definitely a defect and would replace it for that :D

Got my iPhone 4 two days ago and just noticed I have one tiny bit of dust under the screen. They are still very hard to get here in Sweden so I'll wait a while before I try to get it replaced.

so frustrating they have not fixed this issue till now. to think the OCD ones are the only ones affected LOL. i think dust comes in from the ejector hole at the side. this sucks!!!!

It can't. The glass is fused to the digitizer so as far as I'm aware any dust in there is factory dust.
