I have a tiny (and I mean tiny) spec in the middle of the screen on my brand new phone. It seems petty to ask for a replacement because of a single spec of dust but at the same time, now I've seen it, it is starting to drive me crazy.

Thats called: OCD. I bet this iPhone is actually at the top of your expenses list cause I couldn't care how much it cost me and if I had dust under my display.

^ huh ? i thought those two were glued together ? isn't that why there were all those yellow spots during launch ? apple says it was the glue...

No dust under my almost 4 month old iP4.

Why? Because it shouldn't be there.

Sandwiched glass and screen mean no dust should get in there.

No dust for me

I had Apple swap my 3G twice due to dust...and I'm not talking about a couple of specs. This was an obvious design flaw. I was nervous about getting dust under the screen of my 4 at first...then I went back and watched the keynote video where it was confirmed that the glass and LCD are indeed fused together. No space = no dust. YAHOO! Imaging having designed that awesome retina display only to have dust getting in the way. I'm into my 4th month with my new 4, and the screen is beautiful and dust-free.

Yes they are glued together.

As noted, I noticed the dust under the screen within days of opening the box. A very tiny speck that is difficult to spot unless you've already seen it and know where to look. I can only assume that the dust was already there when the two pieces were fused together. I.E, the factory contained some dust.

I've decided to move on, in the scheme of things it is a tiny and almost invisible flaw.

hi,
i noticed a tiny scratch on the back of my iphone4 glass, its very very tiny, its just below the apple logo, dunno if its dust or a tiny scratch, cant feel the scratch with my fingers & can only be seen in few angles, think its a speck of dust  anyone else have this problem on the back glass?

thanks..

I just bought a brand new iPhone today. The first unit that was given to me had a dead pixel right in the center of the screen :( The second unit that I receive has a single spec of dust on the upper left corner :( Will Apple replace the phone again with a brand new one or with a refurb?

If the Genius is able to locate it, then you should get a replacement

The problem is not happening AFTER the phone has been assembled and you are using it, it is happening during the manufacturing stage...dust is getting in between the glass the screen before it has been sealed...that's where the dust comes from! It's very easy to tell if it's dust or a dead pixel...turn the screen off and wipe it down and then shine a bright light onto the screen and examine it, if you see anything it's dust or dirt or lint! If you don't but you only see the mark when the screen is on, it's definitely a dead pixel then!

Last night I bought a 4S for Virgin Mobile at Target, took it home it had a dead pixel, took it back tonight to exchange, brought it home now this one has a piece of lint/dirt between the glass and screen down near the bottom center.

I called the store and told them this was the 2nd phone that has screen isssues and did they have an issue with me swapping it out a 2nd time for phone #3, they said no not a problem. If phone #3 doesn't work out, then I'm trying a different store.

This is why I don't like to buy phones in person, I prefer to order them online and have them delivered, that way I don't have to deal with cranky store employees who think I'm ridiculous for exchanging phones with screen issues that are so small, most people wouldn't see them.

The problem is that I see them and it's unacceptable when you pay this kind of money for a phone, I expect the phone to be flawless...and they always are except for the screens...there has never been one time that I have bought an Apple iPhone where I have not had to exchange the phone 1 or two times.

For an Apple product this is really quite pathetic!

So I'm going back to the store after this Hurricane has past us on the East Coast to try for phone #3...very frustrated with this!

That makes you trifling!

I had two tiny specks of dust on my iPhone 4 and went to go get a replacement under warranty.. they were all SO PISSED at me. When the genius filled in the field for what was wrong with the phone he literally typed "tiny speck of dust under screen." Lmao so bitter.

Who cares what they think lol, spending almost 3/4 of a grand on a phone should not have any kind of objects under the glass or screen period! But to be honest I don't care if I paid 100 bucks or 700 bucks, I would not accept it as it's unacceptable to me.

I have gotten into arguments with AT&T reps before in the stores demanding that they replace my phone before (when I had AT&T service) and boy...they did not like it one bit! I dont' know why they get so upset, their not paying for it and they send the phones back to Apple and get credit for them for being defective.

But this is just not an Apple problem folks...it happens with every phone maker out there, trust me I've seen it all! You just have to keep exchanging, eventually you will get what you want but it might take a few times. For me, I'm hoping this time around that the 3rd time is a charmer! I've never had to exchange a phone more than twice, meaning that by the time I got the 3rd phone, I finally lucked out.

If Apple or any other phone maker has the balls to charge these absurd prices for phones, then I'm going to be just as absurd with my quality control check after I buy it. Some people think this is OCD behavior but it's not, when you buy a new product it should be in perfect (this includes cosmetic condition as well!) After all it's the screen you are looking at for the next how many years? Why would I want to look at dirt?
