That's a great tip. Another great tip you might not of known is that you can turn the iPhone off by holding the power button. I haven't tried it out yet, so I could be wrong.

great, he's (op) not coming back. :( :p

Damn curiosity. should've known better.

I go to school, and have been studying all day. Honestly, congratulations to people that have read their manual and know how to function their phone. I, personally, play with my devices and learn about them as I go.

Instead of tapping the '123' button - tap and hold it (the keypad will switch to the number kaypad) and then drag your finger to the desired number, lift your finger off the desired number and voila - it will enter the number you chose + at the same time, switch back to the qwerty keypad ;)

That's cool didn't know this one and I've been using the iPhone since the OG days. This is actually a good thread. I hope I learn some more things

sorry i was being sarcastic towards the way people were mocking you for such thing.

When using the keypad, when I used to want to type in a number or a symbol, I would tap the '123' button (so that the keypad switches to numerics), tap the number I wanted and then tap the '123' button again to switch back to the qwerty keypad.

...well here's a tip which I only found out the other day (and I've owned an iPhone since my old 3G days:rolleyes:)

Thanks for this one. One of the most annoying things about the soft keyboard is entering Canadian postal codes. This will help a lot.

Another one (that most people may know about) - when typing a URL, you can hold down the ".com" button to show other typical country domains (e.g. for English ".co.uk", ".ie"). I think as you turn on other languages on in the keyboard, it'll add the relevant countries to this domain button.

You should be flogged with a cat 'o nine tails for wasting 2 whole minutes of my time OP....this "tip" is mentioned in the downloadable user guide...which you have not read obviously

Yet you read 17 posts about it. If you read the first post and new it why did you continue reading and feel the need to post?

I never understand why people feel the need to read something like this and start with the "I knew that already".."late to the party". Who cares if you knew. Close that big X on the top of your window and move on top the next thread.

I'm guessing the next thread will be about how double tapping the space bar automagically adds a period at the end of your sentence.

Period and space! An important distinction for those of us who don't read our manuals.

This is how I learned to use my new chef's knife. The doctor says I'll probably regain full use of the limb sometime within the next year.

I'm a huge iPhone fan, all I do is read news about them/apple.. And I did not know this.

Thanks bud.

Not everyone is aware of all the features on the iPhone, a while ago I posted this and it was beaten to death, so give the OP a break folks.

No.

There are some tips that are actually hidden. Like the screen-shot tip you gave or the 'hold the .com button' someone else said. Yes, many people know them, but you only know it by being told. So by all means...share it. I'm a big fan of sharing hidden tips.

But this is different. The double-click caps-lock thing is right in the system preferences. The only way you don't know it is if you've never gone through the phone's settings. And, frankly, if you're someone who doesn't care about the phone's settings then you probably don't care about tips like this.

Your Join Date: Jan 2011

I've had the first iPhone. I've been in the smartphone world before you even knew about it.

<---check out my join date.

I don't see how his/her join date has anything to do with owning, using, or knowing about smartphones.

It's not mandatory to join MR once you buy an iPhone.....

OP, it seems you're getting a little defensive at this point.

You made your thread, helped some people, and got a few smartass responses. That's pretty much all you can ask for on the internet.....time to call it a day.....

As I doubt that many have <read the user guide>. I have known about his feature since iPhone 1 but hey he is just trying to help.

I actually do read the little guide that comes with my iToys but I don't remember seeing that in there. I knew you could change the caps lock button to stay on or just for one character but I never knew you could double tap it for caps lock.
