I know. It needs to stop as the glass is NOT "gorilla glass". Same with the "death grip" reception issue. There is nothing "death grip" about it. Whoever is coining these phrases needs to be fired.

I could not agree more.

My Droid has genuine Corning Gorilla Glass. It's printed in the documentation. In addition, it's survived some unintended drops & other hazards without a scratch.

I peeled the shield off it's the shield and not the screen *sigh of relief* Is there a good shield out that covers both the front and back, the invisible shield tends to peel off when I have the Griffin Reveal case on. I'm not sure if it's because the shields has a kinda rubbery/sticky feel to it.

Curious as to why your are on an iphone forum thread if you are a Droid user? I ask this because I myself as an iphone user would never patrol an android forum, but for some reason there tons of android users here.

I was really suspect when I was reading iphone 4 reviews on Best Buy when one review totally hated the iPhone and claimed how they liked their Evo so much better. Seriously I think that guy probably never had an iPhone 4, he only submitted the review to downgrade the rating of the iPhone and send someone to android. Because seriously who has two cellphones on two different carriers?

I'm sure a lot of android users on this board come to this site to read up on Apple rumors because they own Macs or other Apple products and sometimes click on the iPhone forum just as I sometimes go to the iPad or MacBook Air forums despite me not owning the products.

Ummm...it's GLASS...Glass breaks... Call it Gorilla Glass, call it Kryptonite Glass, call it Nuclear Glass, it's still GLASS. I really don't know what to say beyond that.

This phone is completely crap

This phone is completely crap. I was desperately waiting for the iPhone 4 to be launched in Canada, but running over forum here and on Apple one, I am confused, the issues are countless ::confused:

Reception issue : Death Grip
Drop calls
Proximity sensor not working
Wrong signal bars reporting (admitted by Apple)
Yellow spot on the screen
Green spot on photos
Slow Wifi
Poor Bluetooth performance
Not syncing with iTunes
Facetime screen freeze
Wrong indoor white balance
Plays static when using Ipod in car
Gets really hot when charging
Poor battery life
No valid SIM card
Won’t answer calls
Crazy sound when receiving email or text message
Camera freezes
No iCal MobileMe syncing
Safari crashing
and so on and so on...
and now...the glass cracks itself

Is there something that actually works with this phone ? By chance I can find all this valuable information on those forums so I won't buy it:rolleyes:

This phone is completely crap.

So, don't buy it! Is it REALLY that difficult for you to figure out? Do you need your mommy to explain it to you??
Plenty of people are very satisfied with the iPhone 4.
If you're not one of them, or don't think you will be one of them, don't buy it.
It really IS that simple!
I LOVE mine! I don't have reception issues. I don't have proximity sensor issues. My signal doesn't drop off the face of the earth. My glass didn't miraculously crack by divine intervention. It just works.
But then again, maybe I am crazy...I don't expect it to cure cancer; I don't think it will mean I will figure out the winning lottery numbers; I don't expect it to be a chick magnet.
It's a GD PHONE!
I make calls with it and they go through. It's blazingly fast. I search the internet with it when I get lost or need the name of a restaurant. I Facetime my kids and it's really fun to see them. I text friends and family around the world. It checks my mail for me so I know what's going on at work and at play. And when I travel as I do all too often, I can listen to music or watch tv when I am stuck in some godforsaken airport in some godforsaken corner of the earth.
If you bought one and it doesn't do that for you, return it and buy something that will work. If you haven't bought one and are considering it, buy it, try it and if you are happy, keep it. If not, take it back.
If you are looking for it to change your existence on the planet, you have a lot bigger problems than wondering what phone to buy.

Please, calm down...maybe I was not so clear after all but I was sarcastic. Really I am 100% sure that when I will buy it, I won't experience any of those so called issues. Actually, I will buy it the day it will be announced here.

oh my

Apparently this is the only case that will fully protect the iPhone 4 from glass damage:

LOL! That would make for a really funny video. Record someone in an Apple Store receiving a phone call, the person places the case down on a table/counter opens it up and answers.

I wonder if the employees would see the humor?

Clearly this person is a wireless mac user and the iPhone has no wires. :)

I just noticed some scratches on the back of my phone a couple of days ago. Most of them just look faint, but one borders on a crack. I can feel the indentation in the glass, unlike the others. I haven't dropped my phone except for from a chair to a carpeted floor, so I don't see how this could've happened. I thought this glass was supposed to be STRONG. If I had been carrying this thing with keys in my pocket, I get that. But I'm not!

Apple really needs to at least stop pretending like these phones need zero protection. I think I've heard no screen covers are sold in stores because Apple doesn't want you thinking you need one. I'm still going without one on this one, but I'm definitely going to buy an InCase Slider for this as soon as InCase gets one made. I also think in the future I will wait to buy a phone until InCase has one out.

I guess it's because many former iPhone users switched to Android but naturally they are curious about what happens in iPhone world.

Reception issue : Death Grip; death grip is actually when you masturbate too hard and it makes your penis lose sensitivity
Drop calls - AT&T; my service is great here, never dropped a call
Proximity sensor not working; seems to work fine to me
Wrong signal bars reporting (admitted by Apple); ok
Yellow spot on the screen; where?
Green spot on photos; where?
Slow Wifi; as fast as my pc
Poor Bluetooth performance; haven't experienced that
Not syncing with iTunes; sync mine twice a day
Facetime screen freeze; haven't had a chance to use it
Wrong indoor white balance; not experienced here, but if it did I wouldn't get med, 35mm film cameras don't white balance, and a lot of digital ones didn't for a long time - this is cell phone.. not a camera
Plays static when using Ipod in car; I listen to music on the ipod app in my car at least 3 times a day
Gets really hot when charging; as do all lithium ion devices
Poor battery life; battery life is amazing, actually
No valid SIM card; say what?
Won’t answer calls; works for me
Crazy sound when receiving email or text message; same sound it played on my 3G
Camera freezes; only when it's cold out ;-) no, mine has never froze.. sorry?
No iCal MobileMe syncing; don't know about this, never been dumb enough to get suckered into buying mobileme
Safari crashing; stop looking at porn
and so on and so on...

screen covers are sold in stores, and they scratch just like everything else, all it takes is abrassion, i've had cases scratch my 3G before..

don't you want to protect your investment anyway? why would you not have a case?

The phone is a tool not an "investment". My observation is that only iPhone users (iDevice users in general) call the phone an investment. Weird.

You are just as cynical and wrong as in the other threads.

Simply, the current combination of the glass that the Chinese used and the design of the iPhone 4 resulted in a fragile product that cannot survive its first drop.

How many phones would you have lost if all of them broke when you dropped them the first time?

It's not being reckless, it's about some company stupid enough not to test the product properly.

Your downplaying about the other issues is wrong too.

don't you want to protect your investment anyway? why would you not have a case?

I bought cases for my original iPhone and 3GS. They saved me a couple of times on drops on hard surfaces. I also had screen covers, although I actually scratched the front of my original iPhone trying to pick a piece of dust off of the screen before putting the cover on. I found an easier-to-apply cover for the 3GS and never had that problem.

For the iPhone 4, I figured I'd "trust" all the claims about how resistant it was to everything. I figured it was some super glass that would take minor punishment like sitting it down and putting it in my pocket. It only fell from my chair to the floor and the bed to the floor. I have carpet and it never hit anything that would scratch it. It's all cosmetic on the back, but it makes me worried about the front.

As far as cases, you show me an InCase Slider for the iPhone 4 and I'll buy it. All I can find is those bumpers, which are extremely silly at $29. You can throw an iPhone at a wall in an Incase Slider and likely come out unscathed. Try that with a bumper and watch your blood pressure go up. Anywho, I can't find any InCase cases, which I have loved in the past.

Some people do have both phones. I have an iPhone 4 and a Motorola Droid. One is personal use and the other is for work.

There is no point of using figures when you get them from thin air...

63.5% of what you say is pointless.

This is called trolling. Your post had no sarcasm in it and was clearly trolling for people to write comments. Go back under your bridge, troll.

I think what a lot of people don't seem to get is that there's a difference between the glass being stronger (in that it is more resistant to scratches, which is what Apple intended) and being less brittle (more resistant to cracks).

Typically if you make something more durable, you make it more brittle. So, yeah, it's less likely to scratch, but then more likely to shatter...Using glass as a structural member might not have been the best idea Apple...

Seriously, I don't get why people are willing to drop $200+ on a phone with this much glass but absolutely refuse to spend $30-40 to get a decent case that PROTECTS it. It's a PHONE. You WILL drop it. Those stupid bumpers won't do CRAP to protect the screen unless it happens to land on an edge.

As I see it there are 2 types of protection you can go for:

1) a case that protects against drops... Cushions the phone to survive drop impacts, reducing the stresses on the phone's structural members (in the case of the iPhone 4, the back glass.)

2) protector shields, like invisible shield, that do NOTHING to protect the phone from drops, only from scratches.

Personally, I use both... Screen protector and a good case. I KNOW I'll drop the phone at some point, it's inevitable no matter how careful I am.

I have the same thing

I woke up one morning with my White iPhone 4s 16gb (stupidly as its full) and there was a crack between the Multi-Button and the bottom. It was pristine the night before and had been sitting on it's dock on my bedside table. I have known apple to replace a crack in an identical place on an iPhone 4 however i don't know weather the same glass is used on the 4S and weather the fault persisted through models. I'm going to take it to the apple store soon.

WTF is the multi-button?? (Home button I know :D )

Their should be ribbons given to the ones that pull threads back up from 2 years ago. I mean, it has to be said that they searched first, right.?

I have never seen anything that says Apple uses Gorilla Glass. Until Apple comes out and says they actually use Gorilla Glass (they may have, but I haven't seen it) or Gorilla Glass 2, or until I see Apple put their name on THIS list, I will continue to say Apple doesn't use Gorilla Glass. Every other manufacture says point blank they use it. I know of 6 people in my small office that have a 4S, 4 of these six have badly shattered screens, the other 2 have screens with small cracks. They all use the Apple bumper. Just bad luck? I don't think so. I have never seen any phone with Gorilla Glass, especially the Galaxy S line of phones (most common I see) ever shatter from just a typical drop.
