The quality and pixel density of iPhone 4 screen is impressive, no question about that. However, 3.5" screen is too small by today's premier smartphone standards.

It is disappointing that Apple didn't kick up the screen to at least 3.7", to make it on par with Nexus One, Droid Incredible, etc. You can make the resolution 1920x1280 - but there is still only so much information you can usefully read on a small 3.5" screen.

4.3" screen with 480x800 resolution can display significantly more readable information than iPhone's higher res 3.5" screen. I'd take larger screen and less scrolling over high pixel density.

I'll take a phone that fits comfortably in my pocket. Going to 3.7" could work with a change in aspect ratio, but I don't want a wider phone just so I can have a monster display. I didn't initially want an iPhone because I thought it was too big, I don't know why I'd want a bigger phone.

... and 1000s of people loved the new look too. And the poll showed the majority did like it. In fact, I seen more people saying how much they hated the plastic look of the 3GS.
So have fun with your Evo and stop raining on people's parades. KTHNXBAI.

I think it's very simple "Dont like it dont buy it" there is plenty of phones out there such as samsung, nokia, incredible android etc...

This place truly has become even more of a time flusher than it already was. The opinions as fact thing is truly getting old. So is stating the obvious.

"Apple products don't give me choice! I can buy this for less and do whatever I want!"

Sure. We know. Welcome to 1997.

Yes, everyone's entitled to their opinion, I just get tired of reading the same crap over and over and over again.
I do agree. I rarely comment , b/c of the new lash of snide remarks from people about off topic things.

On a side note. So now if you have had an account that has/is coming to an end before the IP4 arrives in the latter part of this month, then the eligibility for 199/299 is still present correct?

I think the funniest thing here is that the Droid "Incredible" doesn't look so incredible anymore.

I opined the same thing to myself this morning, when I took a garner at Verizon's Droid page. The Droid looks so childish, the plastic look is unrefined, the model/spokesman, although cute, could pass as a way-thinner, but yet still as goofy-looking and sounding as 'The Miz'; that voice and intonation has cheap porn dialog written all over it.

Just wondering - to all those talking about how it's a crappy phone because of signal issues and dropped calls... i can see how you can say that about the old one but how can you possibly comment on this new one?

It's completely redesigned.... structural design is totally different, seems to be using quite an innovative system whereby the exterior steel sides will act as large antennas and is running new chips. I dare say no one here has had much experience with how good or bad it is/will be in this regard.

I would say hold off until it hits the wild before making assumptions about it's credibility as a phone!

Personally I like this phone... I'll get one asap to replace my aging 16gb 3G. I like the EVO too but it's a shade too big for a daily use phone for me personally, and I just love the design of this new iphone.

Many put the blame solely on ATT, but its the phone. My mother-in-law has ATT and in spots where my iphone did nothing but drop calls, hers maintained service just fine. I love the new design of the iPhone. Love it. But as I said, it's first and foremost a phone. And as phones go, it's simply dreadful.

Have you tested it?

The phone is NEW. It isn't even AVAILABLE YET.

There is nothing to verify that the iPhone 4 is in any way predictable by iPhone 3G or 3GS cell call performance.

With all the bad response about that issue, and the fact that it was mentioned that the case is glass, and stainless band is integrated into the antenna array, obviously some work has been done on the RF performance of the device.

Maybe the iPhone 4 will have drastically improved call performance.

Just the conjecture that iPhone 3G and 3GS had average to poor cell call performance doesn't mean jack for a completely new device.

EDIT: I see that I am not the first to make this point, but it is worth double emphasizing.

I can never understand why people who have no interest in Apple products waste their time posting on a forum dedicated to the Apple products they don't like.

Actually, wait, I do understand. They're lifeless losers.

There are some nice Android phones out there. They do some things that iPhone never will. In the same way, iPhone 4 has advantages over the best Android phones. Decide what you like and just shut up and buy it. This isn't a damn war where you have to come onto these forums and desperately justify your Android purchase by slamming the iPhone.

I thought it was ugly until I saw it next to an iPhone 3GS. By itself in photos it looks huge and blocky...

Oh, I'll replace my 2G with one of these, I guess. But it looks blocky to me, too. Kind of prototype-ish, maybe? It doesn't look quite as comfortable for the hand as the 3Gs. At first glance it doesn't say "graceful" like the 3Gs do. On the other hand, it may be that I'm used to the 3G's curves and the boxiness won't matter. Guess I'll have to get the feel of it in the store.

Ever held N1 or Droid Incredible? They are not any bigger than iPhone, and both have 3'7" screens.

Now Evo may be pushing the "comfortable pocketability" limit .. But apparently it's a tradeoff many are willing to take for an awesome 4.3" display. Personally, I have not had any problems carrying my Evo in the front pockets.. but then again, I don't wear supertight pants ;)

Here's why Android is infinitely superior. You don't like the stock keyboard on it. Fine. Neither do I. But guess what, I swapped it out for a great one (Swype). It's all about choices. I'd rather make my own choices rather than Apple deciding for me what I do and don't need. I'm mature enough to buy a phone and pay the monthly bills, so Im mature enough to decide how I want to use it.

So do it, please, and be happy with it.

Now let the rest of us discuss the great new iPhone features, will you?

You're aware that Apple makes more than really bad phones, right? Some of us like their computers.

And some of us like not showering for a week, playing WoW for 12 hours straight, posting to 4Chan and Photoshoping Boxxy pics. Doesn't mean you have any purchasing power like most of the social crowd out there.

I feel a bit vindicated for my cynicism over the iPad because the features here put it and its "magicalness" to shame.

This is a truly amazing device. Light years beyond anything else out there.

The new iPhone is less wide than an iPod classic and that's definitely pocketable. Most 3.7" phones are super comfortable to hold and easy to pocket, Apple's just gone a little crazy with the miniaturization thing.

I have a 3G ipad = $30 month
wanna get phone 4 = $39 voice + $15 data(wont much data because of ipad)

All together = $85 a month. is this really the cheapest plan?

Im wiling to pay it i guess but is there another route i can take that is cheaper?

is the microsim in the ipad accesible? cause if it is i dont know what is stopping people from using one sim for both iphone and ipad,

480x800 would mean MORE scrolling, not less. The only difference is that's it's slightly more likely text will be too small to read, hence you'll need to pinch to zoom more on the iPhone.

What, wait, what?

I am not an AT&T apologist, but... it really depends on where you live. I live in the northeast and AT&T is pretty good. I haven't had dropped calls and get strong signal throughout my area. I also like being able to use my phone when I am out of the country. The problem of course is this isn't always the case in other areas, and multiple carriers would be better if they could provide voice/data at the same time and the other features like visual voice mail.

That being said, saying the iPhone sucks because of AT&T is like saying the internet sucks because you live in Iran. The iPhone is a great device, with critics of course, but that is why every other phone is referred to as a "iPhone Killer." The iPhone is driving competition and because of it we have gotten a slew of great new phones, which in turn gives us choice. There has been tremendous innovation in the phone industry in the last 3 years, and well, believe it or not, we have Apple & AT&T to thank for a great deal of it.

Seriously if it were up to Verizon we would all still be using RAZR's.

That doesn't contradict what I said (3.7" could work with an aspect ratio change). It's good to hear that you find the phone comfortable enough to pocket. I just don't think I would.

WTF!!!! Why the hell would it only have 256MB of RAM?? The nexus one and droid have 512MB, this is soo crappy Apple.

What's with Apple fans and word "snappy"? I've never seen it being used in such frequency by anyone else.

Its an inside joke.

When Safari was first released, it was pretty slow. After every update you would have people who would chime in that it "felt snappier" although there were no measurable improvements.

Ever since, "teh snappy" is a running gag especially regd. Safari, but also extending to other Apple products.

Phone looks nice, but I refuse to stay with AT&T after all the trouble I've had. Good bye iPhone, hello Droid Incredible. I'll see you when you get here.
