mine never did it at day one, only recently so i don't get it. i updated to 4.1 in september so would it have started happening then if it was cause of that. ugh i dont get how software bugs work!

You don't know what the problem with any one particular phone is though. The home button could be physically stuck on something rather than registering two clicks.

The simplest thing is to ensure that the button works on every phone!

How would they experience different problems?

Slowing down the double-click speed by a millisecond isn't going to cause anyone problems.

Exactly how fast do you need to double tap?

Maybe right now the double-click gap is .001 of a second

If Apple changed it to .05 of a second, people could still double-click as fast as they can and they won't click fast enough for it to NOT register the double-click.

However, perhaps a single press is registering 2 impossibly fast double-clicks that nobody would ever be able to achieve if they were trying their hardest. So slowing it down by a fraction of a second, could make EVERYONE'S iPhone work.

I never had the proximity sensor issue, and now with 4.1, I still don't. That's how Apple solved that hardware problem that only SOME were experiencing without having to replace their iPhones.

What the first quote says. Everyones iPhone is different, and its a hardware problem that is only effecting certain phones. If you press down super hard on your phone's home button all the time, it might start acting weird after a while. Doesn't mean it will on someone else's iPhone though

Thank God, I'm not alone!!!! I really thought I was the only one having these weird issues with the home button. Mine is absolutely effed up. It happens to my iPhone every time I have to use it. Ridiculous. What I'm afraid of is that if I decide to take it to a genius, the problem will temporarily vanish/fix itself, as per Murphy's law, of course.

:mad::rolleyes:

My phone just started doing this a lot in the past week or two.
I have 4.1, installed on release date, but the problem just started happening recently.
I don't have time to go to apple this week, but I'm hoping they'll swap it out without too much hassle.

Glad I'm not the only one because I thought it was one of the apps.

Got mine replaced at the genius bar today and new one came with 4.0.2. Was forced to upgrade to 4.1 since my backup was from a newer version. Luckily no problems so far but we'll see.

Funny thing is that the guy next to me in line overheard me explaining my problem to the genius and said he was there for the exact same reason. He noticed his after upgrading to 4.1 as well.

I just took my iphone 4 back for this issue and the genius replaced it without a hassle at all. He even said well it must be frustrating that it doesn't happen all the time because when you come in here its hard to replicate an issue like this. He then asked if it was okay if he just gave me a new phone and i said that would be fine.

New phone works perfectly, although its only been a little over a day. Glad i decided to take it in and swap it now!

I recently started to have this problem with my phone. I'm going to back it up tonight and take it in tomorrow to see if I can get it replaced. I got my phone on the release day. Hope it helps and fixes it. Hopefully it's not something I have to go through every x amount of months. Did any of you wipe the phone prior to taking it in? Is there anyway for them to look at previously deleted text messages, emails, photos etc?

Weird. I followed someone's advice and killed all the multitasking apps and it kind of helped. I'll test it overnight to see.

WOW! That's great that there are people like that! Or Apple finally acknowledged that there is an issue with some phones regarding the home button as more and more people complain about it.

I'm not too good with the phone but I'm also experiencing this same problem, and have been for quite some time. It also happened on my 3G and was pretty much completely unresponsive the day before the iPhone 4 launch.

First, I dont have applecare and my phone is jailbroken... I dont mind losing the jailbreak in order to solve this problem but as long as I sync the phone and lose the jailbreak to restore everything back to the factory settings I should not have an issue scoring a new phone, right?

Second, the back glass is actually cracked. Would they deny me a new phone and try to blame this issue on being a side affect of the back glass breaking?

Yes I know it certainly seems like im screwed all around here. Its not such a big issue that I cannot deal with but it does get annoying from time to time. Also, if they'll replace my phone it'll also take care of the back glass being broken.

Bring it in with a back casing on it hoping the apple employee doesn't have enough sense to remove it and hand you a new one:D

I am having the same problem with my home button. My iPhone 4 is running 4.1. Did a restore from back-up. Still screwed up. So frustrating! Restore as new device is recommended, but I am not brave enough to do that :) Genius bar appt made for Friday morning as I am off from work that day.

My old phone with the funky home button used to only have like 5-6mb free memory. The new one (also 4.1) always has over 150mb. All content and apps are the same.

Hahaha. Open a bunch of apps and you'll see your memory get all used up.

It's working fine now. Maybe the restore from back-up worked? I am still going to keep my genius bar appt.

I went to the genius bar yesterday. Of course the home button was working fine. The genius bar rep offered me a new device and I took him up on it. All is well, for now :)
