Myself and 3 friends bought the iPhone 4. We all don't have the antenna issue; occasionally a few dropped bars but nothing to worry about.

I would say go for it, try not to worry about the issue, and if you start to notice obvious problems with it just take it back. You have 30 days for a refund and I do believe you can reverse the contract as well.

Good luck :)

Safe to buy. The Antennagate zealots hanging on for a 'fix' are actually waiting for the iPhone 5.

Even if they do a damn redesign, don't you have a whole damn year to get a replacement if you want? I mean, what's the problem with buying the phone now?

Im going to be completely honest here, and if I had never been shown the antenna issue I would probably never knew it existed during the lifetime of owning the phone. Thats the honest truth.

Im right handed, have never dropped call, and if I switch to my left hand I can make the bars go down but not completely. meaning no dropped call there either. People who are concerned about dropping a few bars of signal need a reality check.

I say again, if I had never been presented with news of the antenna issue I dont think I would have ever noticed it myself. Thats how much its been blown way out of porpotion.

The iPhone 4 is stunning and I feel bad for the people who wont get to enjoy it based on the hyperbolic news articles. Its hands down the most awesome phone I have EVER owned and I wouldnt swap it for anything else.

Saying that, based on the sales, It doesnt look like many people are holding off getting one so dont be left out. Go and buy yourself the most incredible smartphone youve ever used ;)

My thoughts\feelings exactly.

I've had mine nearly since release. Zero issues. Better reception by FAR than my previous iPhone, or any other for that matter. This is a none issue, like it or not whiners :p, that will go away over the next few weeks. If you want a new phone, just buy it. It's truly the best PDA type device I've ever used, and I've been using PDA's and smart phones since the original Palm Pilot days.

Now, if they would just release the freakin' white ones in time for me to get one for my wedding anniversary, it would make a great surprise for my wife! :D

My phone has been absolutely flawless since I got it. I've used it day in and day out and haven't had any problems with it.

Same. This is quite possibly the best phone I've owned. I'm always discovering something new on it everyday. It's absolutely a pleasure to have.

...and compared to the reception I had on Verizon, AT&T is better. I'm in Boston and I'm getting signals and calls in places I didn't get when I was on the Big Red.

iPhone 4 all the way!

If AT&t has strong, consistent service in the area that you live then you probably won't have many call quality issues. However, if you live in a place (like NYC) where AT&T service has been sketchy from the start, you may wish to consider waiting.

The problems with the iPhone 4 are real and well documented by reputable testing companies and have been reported on by credible media outlets. They aren't just coming from techy geek blogs. I personally had an iPhone 4 that frequently dropped calls--more so than my 3G. I'm glad its working for other people however and I hope to return to the iPhone one day.

i live in jersey...ive had really no service problems, maybe about 10 dropped calls between my first 1st gen and my 3gs which is pretty good. i think i am going to get it. a family member just ordered the phone 5 days ago and its already ready to be picked up? i dont know why the site says 3 weeks?

Honestly, I've been using mine for a whole day now and I have to say, it is pretty amazing.
I have the signal issue but it's only apparent in areas where my reception is low. I tried it in an area of 5 bars and i didn't drop any.
Call quality is excellent and the whole experience is just very good. I recommend it.
But I had to buy it because my 1st gen iPhone was dying.

If you can wait on it, then do so. If you can't, then come aboard.

Buy. I have one along with millions of others who are enjoying using it everyday.

Stop reading anything online.

I work in NYC. I have no more dropped calls than I did with the 3GS. Plus, I get better battery life, and the incredible screen and camera. I say don't wait.

Like most people have mentioned in this thread, I too have had all of the previous generations of the iPhone and after using this phone for close to a month now I feel pretty safe saying this is by far the best iPhone they've produced so far...

Is it perfect? Absolutely NOT!!!!! But it's a GREAT phone... The antenna thing is oddly enough not an issue for me, or anyone I know who has one... That seems to be getting all of the media attention but I feel comfortable saying it's a non-issue... Like someone mentioned earlier, I wouldn't even have known about it if it weren't for the media reports..

I will say that the proximity sensor issue is more of a PITA than I anticipated and I hope they get that taken care of, ASAP... I'm dealing with it, and if they get get it fixed quickly it will be fine, but if it drags on I'll be a bit irritated...

Other than that one issue I think it's a significant upgrade from an already very good 3 GS

I get dropped calls with my 3GS and honestly it's annoying while it happens, but at the end of the day I'm not talking about life changing things. And it's only one button to press to call back. People need patience and ALL phones have problems! Get the Iphone 4 and if you hate it then return it within the 30 days. It's basically a free option.

I'm getting the Iphone 4 soon and my gf will be keeping her 3gs. I'll update this post if I see any difference in performance (better or worse).

Buy the phone, get your free case, use the case if you find you need it. I can tell you that mine has reception problems in areas of weak signal, which the case fixes. I can use it fine w/o a case in areas with strong signal. Everything else about it is a-okay. I'm happy, and I'm pretty hard to please. I don't like being forced to use a case in places, but I would've had a case on it, anyway, so it's a wash.

I would be wary if I lived in NYC or SanFran, but AT&T is said to be improving things in those places. Go for it!

It is not safe! The iPhone will self destruct shortly after actuvation. Purchase at your own caution!
:D

So what's really the truth then, some people are saying they're dropping calls on the slightest touch to the corner and some people saying that their phone is perfect. Are they just being fanboys in denial? Or is it because they're in an area with good reception and the death grip doesn't matter as much?

The truth is that it's blown wildly out of proportion. Of course, some people have certain amount of dropped calls depending on the signal strength in the area, and there's nothing new about it. IMO, we wouldn't ever notice this in real life day-to-day usage, had we not been shown all the antennagate stuff. It's human nature to try and touch something when it's said "do not touch" - just to see what happens.;)

My husband and I have had our 4s for 3 weeks. I haven't had any dropped calls at all. My husband is now in Salt Lake City where the signal is not bad, but not that great either, and he did tell me he'd had a few dropped calls. But it's not a big deal. And believe me, he's more married to his phone than to me :D so it would be a huge deal for him if he couldn't use the 4 as a phone!

Well, to conclude this, I love my 4. It's truly amazing for me. I think it's surely worth trying it out. I don't quite understand where all the doubts come from. If it doesn't work you can return it for a full refund. It's not like you are forced to keep it.

FWIW I got the phone this weekend and absolutely love the phone but don't know if I can live with the network: I get 1-2 bars at home and it's not uncommon to have no service. When there's 2 bars I can perform the grip of death and reduce it to no service. When there's more bars (like at work) I can reduce by 1 bar consistently (which obviously isn't a huge problem if you start with 4-5 bars). Like others have said, if you've got good coverage in your area then antenna may not be a problem. If not, then you're in the same boat as me and will have to decide during the 30 days if it's worth keeping.

Also, I followed the advice of the Apple store person and ordered the bumper through the app made for that purpose. It won't be shipped until early September...which is after the 30 days are up so I won't be able to see if that actually makes a difference (nice)...for now, I'm going to assume that it will.

Buy now! And if you do not like it because it's has so many problems, I am sure someone will buy it off of you for pennies on the dollar!

It is heavily rumored AND IMPLIED (in Steve Jobs own words) that Apple will introduce slightly modified, but fixed models that donot suffer from antenna troubles.

There are rumors that tupac is still alive. Should we believe that as well? What about the 10343495th rumor of iphone to verizon?
