how long is the wait?

Ok, so my 1 year old daughter thought it would be fun to play "put stuff into other stuff" with my iphone 3G and a full glass of water. Thus, I have to upgrade. I did so on the 4th of July here in a small city in Northern Honshu, called Yamagata (a truly lovely place if you get a chance to visit someday). I went to an official softbank shop, and they told me that if I placed an order using the Softbank Online Shop it would take 1- 2 weeks to get the phone. So, that's what I did. They also told me that if I placed an order there at the shop, it would take a month as they had to work through the waiting list before I could get a phone. However, I just called the English support line at Softbank, and they said it would take a month to get the phone if you pre-ordered it before June 18th, and over a month (approx. 6 weeks) if you ordered one later. Who do I believe? It really seems like the right hand doesn't know what the left one is doing. So, as of now I have no phone and am still waiting to get my iphone. I am wondering if any of you guys have placed orders using the online shop, or in general how long you guys have been waiting to get your phone.
Thanks

I finally got my 32Gb today for a pre-order made on June 17th. That's 4 weeks and 1 day. I'd have to say that the estimates you got are probably pretty close to accurate.

A lot is also riding on what happens at this iPhone 4 press conference today. I suppose it could have some bearing on production depending on what they have to say. For the record, mine has no issues whatsoever. I grip it every way possible and can't get the bars to drop. The screen is perfect as well, no yellow tinge.

It's been 3 weeks since I reserved mine, and I'm told it will be another week at least. /sigh. Oh well, at least I have internet now ... fiber optic rules ... I love Japan :D

Is there any word on whether it takes longer to receive the iphone via the online shop or through a softbank dealer/apple store? The girls at my local softbank shop said it would take 1-2 weeks via the online store, but a month at their shop. Here I am 2 1/2 weeks later with no phone of any kind. Ughhh....

I have a question for the Japanese iPhone users:

Could you please tell me what the default email signature on iPhones is in Japanese ? Like, in English it's "Sent from my iPhone."

Thanks much

Well when you plug the iPhone into a US iTunes account it automatically makes everything English just like in the states....so I haven't seen what's there if it's all in Japanese.

I'll ask one of my Japanese co-workers tomorrow.

I have to say I don't think you're going to have a shorter delay either way.

If you've already waited 2 1/2 weeks for your order it wouldn't make sense to switch now. You're probably looking at another week and a half to 2 weeks. You could call them and ask them what number you are on the list and how far down they've gotten. They should also be able to tell you how often they're taking in new stock and how many units each time on average.

Good luck.

That's interesting...a few of my friends got theirs within a few days of ordering. Kansai for the win...

Still waiting for the caucasian iPhone.

Anyone know when the white iPhone will be available in Japan? It seems like the word is maybe no pre-order and available on July 30th/31st?

I keep going into the Softbank shop and they say they don't know. Also, Apple Store Ginza claims they don't know.

Just out of curiosity, what are the data and voice plans like in Japan?

anyone know if this will work for us users over here in japan? im picking my iphone 4 up tomorrow and they mentioned somehting bout going to softbank japan's site and i could get a free bumper, but idk where thats listed at on the site.

Just search the App Store for "Case Program" when you get your iPhone. Install that app and select your case through there. That's how I did it anyway.

If you're paying money at Softbank you can usually get points. I remember the last phone I got from there I could get points on what I paid (admin fee, phone, etc.). Don't forget your actual phone contract is with Softbank, so you would be paying them directly, not Yodobashi, so no points.

They said no, come in at 2pm and we'll have one for you.
Makes me wonder why the wait is 2 weeks at the Osaka Yodobashi Camera. Yeah I plan on using my point card as well. BUT I might cancel my order and buy a factory unlocked iP4 from Canada and use it on Docomo since Docomo officially allows unlocked iPhones on their network as of this week ;) Softbank's infrastructure isn't so hot.

It's a little unclear from that article - do you have to buy the phones from Japan Communications as well? That company is offering a "service", the data/voice plan, which is ultimately on Docomo's network. How does this compare to Docomo's own prices?

It's quite clear. You need to buy an unlocked iPhone elsewhere. You can't find unlocked iP4s in Japan so you'll need to buy one online or in your home country if they sell factory unlocked iP4s like they do in Canada or...jailbreak/unlock it yourself which is very easy.

The details of the data plans I don't know.

Japan Communications (J-Com) sells the minSIM card for the iP4 for use on Docomo.

I finally got round to pre-ordering today at Yodobashi in Akihabara and they said 4 weeks. My reservation number is in the 7,000s. Fun! I wish I joined the queue a few weeks ago. My 3G is doing my head in at the moment.

Anyone unlock their Softbank iPhone 4 ?

I will be travelling over the next month, so was hoping to unlock my iPhone 4. I have avoided getting the latest update, so I am still at 4.0.1.

Planning to go to the JailBreakMe website, jailbreak the phone, then unlock using Cydia. I have done this on my 3GS - was no problem, but that was a US based 3GS - and a couple of tutorials I read mentioned that the iPhone 4 unlock only worked on AT&T iphones. I doubt this, as Apple iPhone hardware is the same everywhere (?).. but I could just use the 3GS on my trip, so don't want to risk anything... though the iPhone 4 is much, much nicer...

I also heard that you need to use the original SIM to authenticate, then use the foreign SIM. If that is true, does it matter if I unlock before I go, or can I do it while travelling...
