I received mine from the local Softbank shop for free.
ugh waiting for my pre-order to come in is terrible! anybody know if any softbank or apple stores in tokyo have the iphone 4 32gb in stock?

I doubt it very much. I'm still here waiting for the call for the 32GB I pre-ordered on 6/17 and am starting to think the fact that it's the 32GB has something to do with the delay. Some folks even out here in the sticks who pre-ordered on the same day or the 18th have already taken delivery of their 16GB.
It does suck, no doubt. 🙁
I guess the 16GB models are in high demand due to them being basically free with a new 2 year contract. I want my 32GB!!!!!! lol
I was waiting forever for my on-base Softbank to get to my reservation! Then, I go shopping off-base to Yamada Denki and get one in 10mins...that's tragic!😀
Smooth transition! They actually had some 32s in stock, but I went with the "free" one since I haven't gotten close to capping 16GBs.

Well, I read your message this afternoon so on my way home I decided to swing by my local Yamada Denki and see what was up. They told me that not only do they not have stock nor do they know of any location in their chain that DOES, they estimate 6 to 8 weeks delivery for those placing orders now. They also confirmed that those who ordered 32GB models on 6/17, as I did at my local Softbank shop, are also still waiting for their phones to arrive. It must be an Okinawa thing I guess. 😛
They finally have floor models of the iPhone 4 now. They didn't even have those around here last week. The screen is, indeed, pretty. I hope mine arrives soon...
The Yamada Denki in Urasoe, Okinawa is where I picked mine up from. They had one floor model + stock. 😀 And all I was looking for was some new Gunpla haha!
The one Softbank rep there hooked me up as soon as I inquired. But I suppose each place is different. On-base it seems like all the girls working the counter don't know anything or are too busy hooking up their bfs/friends...I mean I went from number 7 to 18 to 12 to 4 on their waiting list since launch day.
I'm happy that Yamada Denki had what I wanted AND provided great customer service.

I dropped in very briefly into the Yodobashi in Machida earlier. They had five or six working display models out. Quite a lot, I though, considering there's supposed to be a huge shortage in fulfilling orders, but I guess they have to advertise if they want to get more customers. Sorry, didn't have time to ask if they had any in stock. Someone might want to give them a quick call to find out.
I dropped by the softbank store at my base tonight to ask about my place in the reservation line. It's not good news. We have the biggest BX on this side of the planet and they only received 2 32gb iPhone 4's in the last week. As of now I am around number 40. I ordered on the 26th. The girl at the counter seemed embarrassed that they have not been getting more in. She said it could take 4-6 months at this rate to get my iPhone. They do finally have a display model to play with. I'm thinking of canceling my reservation and spend the next couple weeks stalking every softbank store on Okinawa until I find one. I wish they would put an Apple store on Okinawa.
I think Kadena (don't quote me) has had more than 2 32GBs in since launch day...I was looking at the waiting list and I know I saw more than 2 32s crossed out when I worked getting my second ip4 for my wife today...
The girl at the counter for me told me that I would get my other 16 within 2 days...so I doubt you will have to wait that long to get your 32GB.
She told me that they only received 8 the first week and 2 this week. I hope she is just misinformed. Anyone know of some good Softbank shops to stake out?
I called the japan apple customer service today regarding the new stock of iphone 4, she won't confirm the date of availability of units. Then i changed my question, when white iphone 4 will be available , she answered me in 2nd week or 3rd week of this month July. lol...😀 (toink) i guess she accidentally confirmed it hahaha....
haha nice. I made reservation for my iPhone on June 24th and I was #35 on the list for the 32GB model, as of yesterday I'm #19. The girl at softbank said I should be getting it this week, as they get more 32GB models then 16GB models. I'm sure she had her facts backwards, ughhhhh.

I stopped in to Softbank again today on the 3 week anniversary of my pre-order (6/17) and was informed I am now down to number 7 on the list for 32GB iPhones and they will be getting in a shipment tomorrow. So there's a decent chance I will get it tomorrow or in the very next shipment early next week.
A friend who ordered the same day got his 32GB yesterday from a different store.
The waiting times, list lengths and frequency/volume of incoming stock seem to be a total crapshoot depending on the store.

Sorry I know this has nothing to do with a pre-order but I am in Tokyo right now and my iPhone 4 will not pick up any signal, it just says "out of area" with no bars. I called AT&T whom said I should be able to use it international ( the did "tests" and then passed the buck to the network here in Japan), but for some reason I cannot make/recieve call, send text, recieve text or do any network/phone activities.
Is there something I have to do in order to have my phone recognized? I am assuming I would roam on Softbank.

If you're paying money at Softbank you can usually get points. I remember the last phone I got from there I could get points on what I paid (admin fee, phone, etc.). Don't forget your actual phone contract is with Softbank, so you would be paying them directly, not Yodobashi, so no points.
I'm just glad I don't need a new phone right now. I had to get a new one in January as the old one got busted. I bought one outright on Yahoo Auctions and just put my SIM in it. And the fact that the iPhone is locked in Japan is a real turn off.

Yeah, if my 3GS was busted right now I'd really be in trouble. Can't get an iPhone 4 for nothing, can't even get an HTC Desire...all I could do is get another iPhone 3GS and that would reeeeally suck right now.
for you guys in Japan that has the i4, are you guys experiencing (or your friends) reception issues?
