I have an even easier solution: don't bloody buy it!

That is my answer to any of the Microsoft Windows Mobile 7 phones I saw yesterday. Never before have I seen such a disappointing product launch since the IBM PS/2 back in 1986.

Everyone drops their phone at some point its a fact of life. How some people are breaking their iPhone so easy I have no clue I have dropped mine about 3 times in the last week from table height to knee height on accident and have not even received a scratch. So rock on some people are having worse luck than me but am I going to pay 100 for the off chance I might break this thing when chances are really good I am just going to buy the new one next year anyways? And if I do drop it and break the screen I can replace the screen or back for not much more than the warranty... Then not to mention the deductible... Heck I might end up paying more for Square Trade to fix my phone than it would cost for me just to do it.

I agree! There are many multi-layer material cases out there that do a great job of impact distribution when dropped. Every iPhone I owned have had one of them. One in fact, was so rugged, when I dropped it of a very thick rubber floor intended for weight room flooring, it bounced back into my hand. The crowd I was with heard me say, "That $50 case just paid for itself."

The mashable report says don't drop your phone. OK. Good thing I read that.

If that's all you got out of the report, clearly you didn't take the time to read it:

"iPhone 3GS (or any other iPhone), the back of the iPhone 4 is also composed of glass — meaning it’s twice as likely to suffer a shatter — a variable that wasn’t computed in SquareTrade’s study. SquareTrade states that the iPhone 4 is breaking 82% more than the iPhone 3GS, but this is the sort of sleight of hand statement crafted to grab headlines."

I wonder what else Apple apologists can come up with? Have you read the article? Do you understand the math (at least a little)? The article says: "4.7% of iPhone 4 owners reported an accident to SquareTrade in the first 4 months of ownership, almost 70% higher than iPhone 3gs owners, 2.8% of whom had an accident over the same time period." It's all in percentages (of the actual number of users) which automatically takes into account the increased (or decreased) number of phones. What it say is that out of 100 iPhone 4 users, on average, 4.7 of them will have an accident. Out of 100 iPhone 3GS users, only 2.8 owners will have a problem. That's a huge difference. iPhone 4 is 68% more likely to get damaged. Absolute failure on part of Apple's design team.

Really bad math there dude. 1.9% increase does not equal 68% more likely to get damaged. Its simply 1.9% more likely to get damaged. The likelihood is based on total number phones not just the the damaged ones.

And the iPhone 4 has the glass they use in helicopters windshields?

BS, helicopters dont use glass they use lexan, if the lexan is thick enough it can deflect small arms fire (probably nothing over 7.62mm)

this "Gorilla" glass is just chemically strengthen glass, sure its a tiny bit stronger than regular glass but still a stupid material to use on a "MOBILE" device

the best material i would say is Magnesium Alloy (like panasonic toughbooks and some nokia phones)

The outside of the iPhone 4 is made up of 85% Glass. Front & Back is Glass!!! The dumbest thing for a mobile hardware design, but one of the smartest ideas for increasing sales nonetheless.

Apple has a cult now! Why would you buy a phone that has Glass all around the outside hardware? You are either a tech freak, a child, rich enough to not care, or just plain stupid.

The iPhone 4 was the dumbest design I have ever seen on such a big market smartphone! Apple has it's reasons, and the true reason is the business stance they take on making as much cash as possible with any device in their lineup these days.

Good for Apple... Bad for the Consumer.

I could go on & on...

Don't bother. No one is paying any attention except the usual trolls, and they don't matter either.

is this stat only on the frontside glass?

Anyways, I've had iphone 1st gen, iphone 3g and iphone 4, no of them has cracked *knocking on wood*

iPhone's are made for users that handles their electronics with care. My half brother told me that he had to switch back to BB because his jobs consist of climbing into roofs and always on a ladder.

I have dropped the iPhone but I always put it on a case.
