It's called compromising/balance. If you want a tank, you buy a tank. You don't buy a BMW and expect it to be as strong as a tank. If it ends up being as strong as a tank, probably the fuel efficiency will suffer greatly. It's about being balanced.

There's no whining about dropping your phone and shattering GLASS. Most of you guys who are obsessed with protecting your phone forget that at the end of the day, it's just a phone; sure an expensive phone. Just try not to drop it. If your job requires physical action, just don't bring the iPhone 4 with you. Use another cell phone.

My point is don't wrap it up like this nasty otter box because what's the point. If you take out the iPhone 4 after your job, than that's fine. But to have it be used daily is just ludicrous. I went with a case for all THREE of my iPhones and finally, I got rid of my ugly incipio on my iPHone 4 finally and it feels so damn good. I don't drop phones daily; I try my best to make sure it doesn't fall on concrete either. If the phone does shatter and break, I'll pay $199 apple care replacement - lesson learned.

edit: it's about looks AND performance - An otterman box does not look good at all. The argument of having the iPhone 4 function in an ugly otterman box is moot. Buy another phone for your heavy duty job instead.

Wow...you must really not like this case. Well, what you could do is not look at it? Maybe avoid all threads and web sites that feature this case? If someone wants to purchase this case, then let 'em. How is this going to affect you? Oh wait, it won't..................

Oh, and you'll pay the $199 replacement or your parents will? Just curious :D

All I'm going to say is the iPhone 4 case is much less ugly than the previous version.

This case really makes you appreciate the iphone 4's size! The thing is a BRICK! I can barley hold it and my hands are BIG but maybe you have to get use to holding it? I will be switching b/w this and my white bumper but all in all the otterbox is a awesome protector and the looks are pretty sexy I mean I think the case LOOKS nice but when you hold it it feels huge but the case is a must have if you need protection.

Well we all can't work cushy white collar office jobs in the air conditioning. Is this case necessary? Absolutely. I happen to work a job where I am outside in the elements all day except for lunch. This is in Florida, in 90 degree humid soup where storms pop out of nowhere and dump rain. Add onto that tons of dust and mud and sand and clay. Yes it may be hard for people like you to grasp how a blue collar outside occupation works but this case is very necessary. Also unless your prepared to pony up 200 beans for everyone who needs their phone replaced due to damage, don't question the lengths that some feel necessary to go for protection.

I'll have to agree with you 100%. while I have a great job and enjoy it very much, 90% of the time I am outdoors or on top of a ladder. I do voice, data and fiber optic cabling and in this line of work it's an absolute must! When I had my 3G, it fell off my side while on top of an 8ft ladder, luckily I had bought the otterbox defender or it'd been a chunk of change out of my pocket! With the defender all it did was bounce! So, I'll take a little bit of bulkiness over replacing a phone everytime I turn around!

I need the protection because my kids are not as careful with it as I am. I let my 4 year play games on mine. She is more prone to drop it than I am. I'm not going to keep it from her just because it's a expensive device. The iPhone/Apps provide fun and educational benefit to her. In return, I consider the case like buying insurance. We don't like to pay for it but it sure is nice for when you need it. Productivity not appearance for me.

I am in the same boat as you, french fries, ketchup and angry bird don't mix well with the iphone.

FFS people, if you don't want one, don't buy one. Move on you self-righteous pricks.

I'm also disappointed to hear that it leaves so many openings exposed... it kind of defeats the purpose. I may hold out for the Commuter.

Exactly. I'll never understand the thought process of people who are so preoccupied with how others spend their own money.

More over, to those of you who attempt to dictate the decisions of others, just what in the f#$@ do you think you're going to do about it? Nothing beyond continuing to overestimate your abilities.

Run along now, adults are speaking.
