iPhone 4 owners not eligible for Upgrade yet. What are you doing for the 4S?

As disappointed as I am, I'll still upgrade (damn you Apple!) by doing what I always do - sell my current iPhone 4 on eBay for more than I'll have to pay for the 4S. Done it three generations in a row that way.

Great...now when will Android and Rim get features to match iOS5. Like....

- when will Android get a native email client that isn't AWFUL!!!!
- when will RIM get a browser that is even close to that of iOS?
- when will RIM get apps that aren't a joke
- when will RIM have an OS that doesn't look like it can run on my pager from 1999

We get it..you don't like iOS5. I been using it for awhile now and I like it a lot. I don't care that iMessage is a rip off of BBM.

Lol. You really do have a hard time comprehending English.

Who said I hate ios5? I think it's great. But like I said the majority of the features are things taken directly from android, rim, etc.

The fact of the matter is, 16 months and this is all they have to show for.

My VZW iPhone 4 is a little over 2 months old and works perfectly fine, so I will look foward to October 12th for iOS 5 release. I have no need to upgrade to the 4S at this point.

Eligible for upgrade in March 2012. Soon after, the iPhone 5 will be announced/released (hopefully). I will get that one whenever it's released. If the legends are true and it'll be released around this time next year then, well, I guess I'll wait until then.

Wow, really? You have nothing more important in life to worry about?

I guess you have absolutely nothing in life to worry about then.

I mean after all, you've registered for this forum. And you're responding to my post.

Fact of the matter is, Apple can give us tiny miniscule upgrades because the sheep eat it up without questions. If the consumers demanded more, apple definitely would not be sitting around twiddling their thumbs.

Going to see what the nexus prime has to offer. Other than that I'm perfectly happy keeping my iphone 4.

What am I going to do? Play this new game called Jelly Defense I found. Seriously awesome.

As for the phone itself, money is not an issue. There are plenty of ways to upgrade even if you don't get a subsidized upgrade. What I worried about is signing a new 2-year contract with AT&T. I would buy a contract-free iPhone for full price, but when it is locked to that specific carrier (for the life of the phone), how exactly can they call it contract-free?

Not sure why those with the iphone 4 would want to upgrade to be honest

me like many others are waiting til the 5 next year.

just threaten to go to Sprint and your carrier might buckle

NO NO NO!

That is after i tell them the made up story that my friend has his moved and other stupid persuasive facts, if that doesn't work i bring up the fact that i can cancel and get the iPhone from sprint for a cheaper price. :D

If that doesn't work try the same with the store, then if that doesn't work i start to yell and if that doesn't work then leave.

Yea but my other line will be eligible next year so if i can get my line moved because its close and be able to sell my iPhone 4 then i won't have to pay anything except the upgrade fee so its a win win.

Same. Even if you have to pay early upgrade pricing, spending $150-200/year to always have the latest phone (after selling old one on eBay) isn't really a big deal to me.

Nothing wrong with participating in a forum. I didn't criticize you for that.

But if you are seriously mad at anybody about yesterday's events, you really need some perspective on life. Take a trip to a third world country or walk through the low-income housing in your city. Get some perspective then stop worrying so much about other people's choice to support a technology company's decisions.

Let's see now.

iPhone 3G is ARM 11 running on 412 MHz, while 3GS is ARM Cortex A-8 running on 600 MHz.

Camera of 3G is 2.0 megapixel only and fixed focus, while 3GS is 3.0 megapixel and auto focus with auto white balance as well as macro mode.

3G doesn’t have video recording and voice control features, while 3GS has 30fps VGA along with on-device editing capability and a voice control feature

Graphic capability of 3G is Open GL ES 1.1 and that of 3GS is OpenGL ES 2.0.

Wireless technology of 3G includes 3.6 Mbps HSDPA, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR, while 3GS includes 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR. The download speed of 3GS is much faster, that is, almost double, that of 3G.

Oleophobic screen on iPhone 3GS.

A simple google search will yield results.

Thanks for playing, although you go home empty handed failing miserably.

So what your saying is:

iPhone 3G to 3GS upgrades were...
A processor that was 31.33% faster.
A camera that had 50% higher megapixels.
A 100% increase in ram.
Better blutooth technology
"oleo phobic" screen which just means it is oil repelent.

Let me remind you that from the iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s:
A processor that is 100% faster...
A memory increase of 100%...
A camera that has 62.5% higher megapixels (and more light and a better sensor, which is what really matters)
Better blutooth technology.
Siri AI speech communications.
Better battery.
Wireless AirPlay mirroring.

Yeah, you might be right.... I think that the iPhone 3G to 3GS was a much bigger jump than the iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s. Seriously, if Apple released a phone with specs slightly better than the iPhone 4 but in a new body style, would you have then been happy?

Oh Siri...you mean the company apple bought out and made it seem like the product was their own.

If Apple was trying to pass off Siri's technology as something developed entirely in-house, don't you think they would have changed the name? I only briefly tried Siri before it was removed from the App store, but the demos from yesterday certainly look like Apple has evolved the technology.

As far as battery life is concerned, I suspect that Apple has simply updated their methods of testing/reporting. I never got anywhere near 10 hrs of Wifi usage out of my 4, and I tried a few times. On the other hand, if a subtantially more powerful phone/hand-held computer gives almost the same battery life, that's a big accomlishment.

The A5 is a huge upgrade over the A4. My iPad 2 screams compared to my parents' original iPad. It's almost painful to use in comparison (for certain things, so is my iPhone 4).

I dont' deny that the 4S is an incremental upgrade vs. the 4, but, for a lot of people, the upgrades are functional, usable enhancements that would help users on a daily basis.

To go back to the original poster, I'm personally not eligible for an upgrade for a few months. I'll have to carefully consider whether that upgrade will be worthwhile, and I'll probably decide that I'll wait for the next iteration of the iPhone. But the 4S might address certain complaints I have with the 4, and who doesn't want to have better graphics with some of the games out there? But, I'm sure I'm in the minority. My dream iPhone 5 is the same size screen in a slightly smaller, slimmer body. I definitely don't want a phone with bigger dimensions, no matter how slim it is.

I've taken a very informal, unscientific poll of my friends who use iPhones. The majority of those who use a 3 or a 3GS will upgrade to the 4S. Those of us who use a 4 will most likely not upgrade.

The biggest reasoning for the delay in upgrading is LTE. For me, my contract is not up until March. If I upgraded then I would be locked into a two-year contract, and I am betting the new iPhone (whatever it is called) will come in October 2012 with LTE and a new design, plus hopefully some other goodies.

I'll upgrade to iOS 5 in a few days and be satisfied. A better camera and Siri aren't enough to upgrade at this point.

iPhone 4 owners not eligible for Upgrade yet. What are you doing for the 4S?

Wait for next upgrade. iPhone 5

I'm eligible the middle of next month. I'll wait till then and either buy it in store or online. I am sure stock will be low in store for a few months as it has been with every iPhone model in the past.

Apple can give us a 3.2 inch screen next year and the masses will justify how great it is.

Fact of the matter is while other companies are absolutely packing in massive hardware and features, apple is giving us the absolute bare minimum because they know they can get away with it.

Translation:

I am dissatisfied that Apple is catering to the masses instead of me.

I am fully aware that apple is not the only phone vendor on the planet and other vendors offer solutions that would work well for me, however I don't want those and want apple to provide it instead, because I feel that they aren't catching up, even though they rank highest on customer satisfaction.

Can you show me a phone that has better hardware specs than the iPhone 4S???

Oh who am I kidding. Stupid me.

I should have known better than to talk ill of apple on an apple site.

Gee, I feel like I'm in north Korea. Can't offend the dear leader!

16 months it took.

I don't know about you but I was laughing and embarrassed when watching the keynote.

Silly us. It seems only you are allowed to have an opinion. If we don't agree with you we get compared to North Korea. People like you make me laugh.

The fighting in this thread. Man. This lack of redesign has seriously pissed people off. (Rightfully so but life goes on.) Tensions are at an all-time high here.

I'm honestly thinking about getting a 4S now just because it wouldn't cost me much as long as I can resell my 4S for good money. I'd honestly only be upgrading because I've been dying for a 64 GB iPhone for years now. I might go white. Hmmm.

Anyways, I want to discuss with a rep first. I've tried it on their site but it keeps telling me that no one is available. I'm not technically due for an update till mid-December. (Carriers should just let you update if you extend your contracts 2 yrs. So dumb.)

It doesn't matter how long it took.... It is better than what other companies are offering... The iPhone 4S is an iPhone 4 with the internals of an iPad 2, in alot of sense. Check this and tell me the iPhone 4S is playing catch up... http://maypalo.com/2011/09/12/iphone-5-vs-samsung-galaxy-s2-processor-speed-benchmark-test/
