However 3GS to 4S is a huge upgrade.

I'm convinced this is Apple's cycle so you'll have to live with it. Every 2 years you'll see a jaw breaking upgrade. I'm convinced that the 5 wil be a jaw dropper. This upgrade is a step towards the 5. Under the hood the 4S is a beast.

Your completely right. I'm not sure Apple will stick with this upgrade pattern indefinitely, but the iPhone 4S is a good fun under the hood. I just think everyone is disappointed because we didn't see a major redesign from the 4 and its not distinguishable in any way from the 4 so ppl won't know you have the new phone unless you tell them.

I know people wanted a change, but knowing Apple they have a redesign already in the works, but they are saving the 5 name until they incorporate LTE and with how the chips are now they drain the battery to quickly and they are to big for Apple standards and you know how much design is important to
Apple.

In my opinion 4 owners i don't think you should upgrade but for 3GS's or those without iPhones its a great choice.

Assuming you are with ATT..........

I have a friend who works at Verizon. A few months ago she was trying to get me to switch from ATT to Verizon. I told her I still had a few months on my contract. She said she could give me credit on my first few Verizon bills until it equaled what I paid in ETF to ATT. She acted like they would do that for anybody but I'm not sure. So you could cancel ATT, pay the ETF, and get the new phone from Verizon without technically losing any money.

So i got off the phone with AT&T and they said that that there are not moving any upgrades. so do i do now, why are so many people that got the 4 eligible for upgrades i might have to just go to the actual store and start yelling.

Sold my iPhone 4 a few weeks ago. Getting at 4S at full price. :apple:

I need some advice...I just got my iPhone 4 16gb in May of this year, I was thinking, if I sold it on ebay or something, and then bought the 4S, it might be cheaper for me to get the iPhone 5 when it comes out, because I'll have the iPhone 4S to sell on ebay, which will get more one year from now than the iPhone 4 will get a year from now...right?

But my question is, how much will the iPhone 4S cost without being eligible for an upgrade? If I sign a new 2 year contract?

Can you show me a phone that has better hardware specs than the iPhone 4S???

- Joe

It's a trade off btw hardware specs for galaxy s2 and iPhone 4s.

CPU....dual core chips for both. Debateable.
Apple has the batter camera of course.
Samsung has the bigger screen and richer colors however, apple has the better pixel density.
Data speeds samsung wins hands down no questions.
Battery life apple is better.

Keep in mind though the galaxy s2 was released in may. The iPhone 4s is coming this month.

The beef everyone is having is that it took apple 16 months to make a phone with specs that have been out before it.

Either buy it at the no commit price or wait till your eligible is pretty much your options now.

it depends on what model it is, you have to pay retail witch for the base model is 600$.

Silly us. It seems only you are allowed to have an opinion. If we don't agree with you we get compared to North Korea. People like you make me laugh.

I seriously think you're 5 or have the reading comprehension of a box of rocks.

Every post I've made, you've completely read it wrong and started going off on some random tangent that had nothing to do with what I said.

Are you seriously ok there buddy? I'm worried about you.

I'm going to the store, i going to say that there are others who are eligible who bought it the same time as me and are eligible for an upgrade. If that doesn't work ill try and sell my iPhone for $600 and just use the early upgrade so i will have to sign a new contract but by next year ill have another line eligable so i can get the iPhone 5.

I'm going to probably buy a 32GB 4S because I just opened a credit card thats going give me $200 cash back if I spend $500 in the first 3 months. In addition if I sell my 4 I'd probably break even so why not? Siri looks awesome.

I've taken a very informal, unscientific poll of my friends who use iPhones. The majority of those who use a 3 or a 3GS will upgrade to the 4S. Those of us who use a 4 will most likely not upgrade.

The biggest reasoning for the delay in upgrading is LTE. For me, my contract is not up until March. If I upgraded then I would be locked into a two-year contract, and I am betting the new iPhone (whatever it is called) will come in October 2012 with LTE and a new design, plus hopefully some other goodies.

I'll upgrade to iOS 5 in a few days and be satisfied. A better camera and Siri aren't enough to upgrade at this point.

See, that's what I'd like to know. I don't care what the 4 owners think, this upgrade was not for them (Apple supports their phone for 2 years, or about as long as your usual US carrier phone contract. So they expect the users to be holding on to their phone that long so they don't aim the upgrade at people whose phone is just the previous generation). But what will be telling if this was a failed upgrade is the people who have 3GS's and earlier phones and those people deciding on their first smartphone or deciding to switch from another type of smartphone.

Those are the people apple aims each upgrade at. And if it doesn't entice those people, yeah, it failed. But enticing people who own the most recent previous generation phone? No, those guys are just gravy if they convince them to switch. And honestly, judging by some rumors and the fact that Apple doesn't tend to give good processor upgrades on my upgrade cycle (I am on the iPhone 3G/iPHone4/2012's year iphone cycle), I might decide the 4S is better for me (This depends on what they offer on the next one and if they put a bigger screen and 4G. THe latter two I actually do not want so if they put those in there better be something else enticing about the phone and it better have a faster processor and do games better or I'll be happy with the 4S).

I understand what you mean.. I honestly think that apple released it in October for 2 reasons though.

#1: to align the 2012 release date with LTE chips. (which, coincidentally, are supposed to be available by October 2012)
#2: to align the release date 6 months from the iPad. IPad 3 will release in April and thethe iPhone 5 October and then the iPad 4 in April 2013, etc etc.

I'm gonna get it because I can. I am selling my iPhone 4 for $400 and will have to just pay the $18 activation fee.

AT&T will move upgrades....just wait till next week...they're waiting to see Sprint's plans for the phone first

Good luck with all of the above, especially selling your phone for $600. The market is flooded now with people looking to sell so that drives prices down.

This will be interesting if true.

Correct. Thats the best plan. If your on verizon, The only option without being eligible for an upgrade is:
iPhone 4S : 16GB $649
iPhone 4S : 32GB $749
iPhone 4S : 64GB $849
now that WONT change your upgrade date. So whatever your upgrade date now is it will remain the same. and then hopefully you can sell you 4s for around $450 next year and if you contract is up then you can buy the "5" with a 2 year contract and make $400something. Haha :apple:

Apparently they moved peoples already, so I'm just a little irked tat some get the privilege when the have signed the same contract as me. I'm going to the store and I'm going to bring this up and see what happens *warning there might be yelling*.
