Just spent another 2 hours with Apple on the phone after my last post. They are sending "something" back to me they are not sure if it was my old defect phone (repaired?) or a "new replacement" phone. What I'm afraid at this point is that they just turn on the phone and probably didn't see the "No SIM installed" message and just decided to return it back to me. Once I get it, if I see the message, I'm making a trip down to my closest Apple store (about 2 hours away).

Let's just say this was a HUGE HUGE mess, the Apple advisor and Apple dispatcher have no idea what they are talking about it's just a mad house down at Apple. I highly recommend, if you have problem and if the Apple store isn't to far away, drive down and get a new one. Instead of spending hours on the phone and days of waiting for something to happen.

If you are having this problem, DO NOT think lightly is a simple SIM fix. Get a new one, because the problem will come back!!

I forgot to mention, that "something" that is coming back to me. Will be here anytime before Thursday (so that's what I was told). I'll make sure to give you guys updates when I received the phone. Thanks for the support...

After starting my "Advanced Replacement" and Apple placing a $699 hold on my credit card the lady at Apple assured my replacement iPhone 4 would be shipped out on Monday with a Tuesday arrival time. So far (8pm Central time) my status is still "Status: Product replacement pending" . Sooooo, I am currently on the phone with another person trying to find out if/when the replacement is to ship. He is trying to reach dispatch (20 mins on hold so far) to find out when it is to ship. He told me before he tried to contact dispatch "it will probably ship tomorrow and arrive Wednesday". Well Yipppeee then!!! I am still on hold waiting on some sort of idea when the dang thing is to ship. It is frustrating sitting here with a POS iPhone 4 which has now gone from the "No SIM installed" and dropping a call forcing a reboot to simply abruptly and more and more frequently dropping calls. Again, it is strange how the NO SIM INSTALLED has not reared it's ugly head all day. This is just a mess. I will report back on what the Apple dispatch has to say about my shippment (or lack there of). :(

WOW, so I am back to somewhat happy again. Apple confirmed my replacement iPhone 4 shipped today and is due NTL 10:30 tomorrow. I confirmed myself with the tracking number he dug up. Now, I pray to GOD I do not have an issue with the new phone. Hmmmmm, restore or setup as new phone? That is the question.......

Felt the need to join just so I could reply to this post.

I had this error come up on my phone on Saturday morning. Went by the Apple store and they did a general network reset. Phone worked fine until that evening when I tried to make a phone call. The call was dropped about 10 seconds in to the call. I did the reset and it worked fine for a while. It kept getting the error on Sunday so today I decided to go back to the Apple store to show it to a Genius. They ran a diagnostic and noticed that the modem or something had been reset 13 times out of the 24 calls I had made on my new phone. They said that it should be as close to 0 as possible. They took my phone and gave me a brand new one on the spot.

Thanks for the info, as at least know if my phone comes back defect again, I will go right down to the Apple store for a new one. I have had it with these Apple advisor. Lesson learned I suppose.....

BTW, I was also told to do a network reset when I was first having the problem. The "No SIM installed" went away for a while then came back...

Is what I did 24 hrs ago. So far no "no sim" messages. Cross my fingers. Apple did us raggedy.

I'd say good luck, I reset all settings, reinstall firmware etc....no luck. the "no sim" message just shows up after few hours.

Did that, too, but no joy. Kept coming back. Went to an AT&T store yesterday, and they gave me a new SIM card, but suggested I might still end up at an Apple store.... No SIM messages since getting the new SIM yesterday morning, though, and this is the first morning the phone did NOT have the 'no SIM' message when I got up....

I got the first of these "No Sim Installed" messages yesterday afternoon. I did a power off reboot and the phone came back. It then did it a agin a few hours later. I did another reset and it worked for a bit before it did it again. All in all it did this "No Sim Installed" thing probably 5 times last night.

I've also had some other weird issues. At one point when sending an MMS message it said "MMS needs your number in order to work" I checked and my number was there. It also lost the contact name in the gray bar when sending an SMS message.

WORST luck ever......

Just found out from FedEx that that "iPhone 4" package they had picked up from Apple had what they called Shipping Exceptions (undeliverable package). FedEx said they will have to ship it back to Apple for them to repackage it. I'm pretty much done at this point with Apple, yes they are polite yes they "TRY" to solve your problem. But the conclusion I got for the last few days is that they don't give a **** about you, and to be honest they didn't really solve my problem.

Now I have to wait until FedEx ship the phone back to Apple and for Apple to repackage it and send it back out....oh what a great story to tell. I'm at the point where I can just give up the phone and go with either a Android or Nokia....

This has been happening so much to me since I got my phone! I think the first time I got it was Friday and it's happened at LEAST 30 times since! It's so annoying. It used to happen only once and awhile but then starting yesterday and continuing on to today it would happen every time I restarted my phone -- therefore making it unusable. I got a new SIM from ATT yesterday and I was good for the rest of the day, that is until today where it's popped up at least 6 times. I reset my network settings but that didn't do anything, and judging from your guy's methods of restoring I guess that would be pointless too.

This is just really unacceptable. I LOVE Apple, but this along with the other problems others have been having with their phones have made me really disappointed with the company.

Well, I said I hadn't gotten this problem for a few days but it started popping up again today. Guess I'm going to get this thing replaced the next time I'm in a town with an Apple store.

I had this problem until I took the SIM card out and noticed part of the edge of the paper was torn off and hanging in front of one of the contacts. Tore the edge off and wiped off the contacts and haven't had the problem since.

I got this today for the first time, had the phone since last Thurday. It happened a couple of times in a half hour, turned on airplane mode, switched it off and it connects. If it happens again this evening, going to Apple store. Kinda sucks because I've had no others issues with my phone and love it!!

Same here. I just wish it didn't pop up so much for me

Finally...

Just checked few minutes ago, looks like FedEx and Apple have resolved the shipping issue. I should have my phone before noon tomorrow, let's just hope it will work perfectly...

So, my wife received her replacement iPhone 4 early this morning. It was replaced due to the "No SIM installed" issue. Funny, this new one does not have a SIM installed and comes complete with a SIM removal tool. Oh boy! So, I SURE hope it really is NOT the SIM causing the issue in the first place. Time will tell, it is now active and working fine (so far). Of course it has only been active for 30 minutes. But, as I said in an earlier post, the original iPhone (while waiting on the new one to arrive) has NOT produced a "No SIM installed" in over 24 hours!:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Thanks for the update, let's just say this is a very weird problem. I know two other friends who have the iPhone 4 that doesn't suffer from this problem. I would suggest if you received this problem, wait until it comes up again. If it does, go get a new one. Don't waste time hoping that it won't show up again. Because most likely, it will....

Anyways, please let us know if your wife experience any more "no sim installed" message with the new phone. Best luck.

this "NO SIM" thing just happened to me twice..i rebooted and it was fine..lets see how it goes

ughh..come on apple youre killing me

Good luck, I hope my new phone won't have that problem. If I get it, I'm going down to Apple store for another one or for return (and no restocking fee).

I'm at the point now that if they will not exchange it for me then it has to go back to apple immediately. I can't keep spending time going there for them to first tell me to go to AT&T (I thought it was an apple product with a 1 year apple care plan initiated upon purchase), then try a new restore, and then try to eject the SIM (DURRRR. I JUST EXCHANGED THE SIM YOU BIG DUMMIES).

I hope there's no restock fee for me either. I was excited as hell to get one, but now I am totally burnt out on how apple is handling this. I can't keep playing this game apple if they don't care enough to acknowledge genuine problems. I still have my perfectly good running 3GS Jailbroken that is more stable then this crap.:mad::mad:

You've had a raw deal. Remember that the iPhone 4 is a wicked piece of hardware once you get a good one. If you insist on a full refund I bet they'll give you one. But don't, enjoy your working new one instead.

Well let's just say if it works, then I WILL stop bothering Apple. Like I have been telling the Apple advisor. I'm don't make it habit out of calling Apple twice a day and get a sense of joy out of it when they tell me to hold for more then 20 minutes.

Believe me, I loved my 3GS never had any problem with it. If the new iPhone 4 came back with no further issues. I will be more than willing to enjoy it. And yes, I know it's an awesome hardware. As long as it works.....as long as it works..

Without reading back, have people replaced the phones and the SIMs and still have the problem?

I have been problem free since day one of having this issue. I have had 2 replacement phones at an attempt to resolve the reception funk, but no SIM errors any longer. Still have receptions issues if I cover the dreaded seem on the lower left.
