I'm pretty sure Apple knows about the issue if it's happening to display models in Apple stores. Apples not going to acknowledge an issue the day the product is released.

I'm not sure this is so cut and dry. I have the issue where if I cover the seam on the bottom/left and top/left at the same time when at home. When I brought the phone in to work today in a totally different location I have five bars ALWAYS no matter how I cover seams, don't cover, this that and the other. I don't think it's as simple as manufacturing defect. I think this is related to tower locations and how the phone determines which to use and how that process is affected by handling the phone. I know others will disagree, but I bet there's some sort of software fix if the situation is something like described above. Then again, maybe I'm completely wrong. All I know is that I can't reproduce this problem in everywhere.

That is my video replicating the problem.

Yes I know I am breathing heavy, and that I say "as you can see" too much, and that I should have disabled the lock out. Oh and sorry about some slight bad language. Also intitally my left hand was REALLY gripping the phone, but all it really takes is 2 fingers to kill reception.

Tough crowd on the YouTubes..

;)

Dude that video was hilarious! :D - My droid aires "it's a piece of ****". Lol.

I specifically tried to make this happen on a few in store models when I was at the apple store picking up my ip4. It made no difference there. However when I got home, sure enough I can induce a 3 bar loss in signal (or so it indicates) just by holding the thing naturally in my left hand ( I'm right handed, but hold in my left hand to talk.. After years of doodling while on the phone, this is my instinct)

Sigh... Hope there's a fix.. If not I'll get a bumper because other then that issue, this phone is freaking amazing!!!

Quit trying to make the call fail. It seems juvenile.

Dude seriously if you don't have the problem or have nothing to add, just leave.

I'm not trying to. If by trying to you mean holding the phone, then yeah, sorry.

Jesus get over the Apple love for 2 ****ing seconds.

haha I sold my 3GS 2 weeks early, you have NO idea how much I missed my Iphone and HAAAATED that poky ass Eris. Seriously, it is pure garbage.

I am too much of a wimp to do it in fear of damaging the phone but I leave this out there for someone to try and provide a video.

This looks to be a conductivity issue. No two people are alike and conduct energy at different levels. An easy way to test this to see if it is a conductivity issue is to take a wire and touch the separate parts of the steel rim. If there is a response, it is pretty cut and dry.

If it is not, then I would think that it is an interference issue?

Who wants to try!?

yea, doesn't seem to be that widespread of an issue, but we'll see how this story develops.

Explain to me how you can even say that?

Look online, tech sites, major news sites, look at the threads here, the fact that Apple stores acknowledge it...

Is your phone working perfect thread is like not even a fraction of the size of the problem thread.

Holy crap denial is strong with this crowd.

I bet. I kept my 3GS for just in case issues and I am happy I did. It's nice to have a spare and if need be, I can give it to a family member.

Hopefully Apple responds to this issue.

I'm confident they will, and I'm not worried about it really at all. I am enjoying this phone, but I would like to see it perform like it should. With proper reception this phone is amazing. I just feel the more public pressure and awareness about it will only help to speed up whatever fix may be in store.

ALL Iphones may not have this problem, but many do.

You're probably right, but they will have to eventually.

On the phone with Tier 2 support after going over, in great detail, the problem I and most of us are having with not being able to handle our phones without losing connection. Spoke to a level 1 tech who once heard my problem in detail, forwarded me to tier 2 supervisor who is handling the return.

They are in the process of setting up an overnight replacement and are looking into the issue.

EVERYONE who has this problem should be on phone with Apple about this.

Don't just bitch on here, bitch to Apple. They are very interested in this and willing to listen, so CALL!

Not sure a replacement will fix it, but the more they have to send out, the more they will want to remedy the problem.

I was coming to post the exact same thing. Call Apple. They won't have the data to support this is a real problem if folks don't call and tell them what is happening. I had avoided calling because I thought it wold be a nightmare on hold. I was on the phone with someone less than a minute after initiating a call me problem ticket.

Don't just tell the other 5000 or so people reading here at any given time, tell Apple. :apple:

on the phone with apple their telling me i have no phone support on my new iphone 4 if this is true i might return because i probably will have probs in the future utter bull.
Edit: they gave me phone support they said it was a glitch.

Agree with that 100%. i couldnt get it to do it at work but could when i went out this evening several miles away from my work location.

On the phone with them now. I agree. It's best to call them and make them aware of the issue. Posting here is good for the community but it's better to make apple aware of the problem.

I have the same issue with mine. I called Apple support. Spoke with the regular support guy, and then the supervisor guy. They are working on a fix (they being the engineers) and the apple folks are going to stay in contact with me to let me know when the available fix is here. Until then, I'll use a bumper (which is hard to find) I ordered one on Amazon, but I'll try the Apple store tomorrow. I found a similar bumper at Best Buy today, but it has a clear plastic back to protect the back of the phone. Blah.

we'll see what happens. At least they are aware of it, and will fix it eventually. The iPhone 4 is amazing, and I love it, despite this small bump in the road.

Just got off the phone with Apple. Like most have said, they seem to be very aware of the issue and their techs/engineers are looking into a fix. She offered an exchange over the phone but I don't want to do that. I don't think it will be fixed doing that honestly. Not with how many people are reporting this issue. She said I can also go to the store. I said I would wait it out until next week to see what Apple has to say because they will have to say something with all the bad press going around right now and she said "yup".

I asked her what she though and her opinion is hardware. :( Sucks. I have a feeling it's hardware too.

Oh well. Keep calling guys. Let them know.

It all depends on how aware they are. It's fine if you don't want to go racing down to your local Apple Store to exchange for a phone that will likely have the identical issue. But, for the time being, you should at least be calling or leaving feedback here:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Done and Done.

Yeah I'm not replacing anything yet until they come up with a legit fix and it's permanent. I'm just using a bumper to solve the problem temporarily.

The apple support team has been fantastic, as usual.

Trust me, you don't need to call to make them aware. They see the awful press they're getting in regards to this issue. They've seen the countless youtube videos of people showing off the defect in their MAGICAL design. I'm just wondering how long they intend to go before acknowledging the issue.

if I bought the Phone through AT&T (Premier) would I still go through Apple for a replacement?
