By the time you can walk into any AT&T store and pick up a white or black iPhone 4 at anytime with supply on hand, we'll be half way to seeing the release of the iPhone 5.

I just gotta hope my iPhone 3G will make to September 2011 :)

Especially crazy since you're going to put it in a case to improve the antenna reception. Anandtech confirmed iphone 4 in some ways has worse reception compared to 3gs, but an iphone 4 case reduces all those issues.

I guess it's 'crazy' to you because you like the black phone. I prefer the look of the white one (at least as pictured when they announced them) and prefer a white model. Some people don't care about color - evidenced by the number of people driving gold and brown cars.

Glad to see Apple is trying to keep up with demand, but 5-7 days still means a crunch.
Doubt it is truly 5-7 days, though. I got my phone at the end of August, when there was allegedly a 3 week wait. Mine got shipped in two days.

Wow, I had no idea that people were still waiting this long for the iPhone.
They're not, really (see above).

Don't believe the media hype - 99.5% of people don't experience this 'issue' - it tends to be those in very poor signal areas.
Uh, I live in a "normal" part of the world, and I most certainly see the reception level go down dramatically when I place my hand over that spot. Even if I have 5 bars, it drops down to 1 or 2 at best.

EDIT: And I still want a day-glo orange iPhone one day!!

I have been waiting anxiously for a hardware revision as well. Who knows how much truth there is to the rumor?

I have always highly doubted this rumor. The cost of even a modest modification would be HUGE. However, it wouldn't be a modest modification. It would mean significant engineering and testing.

On a yearly release cycle for a product shipping in these kinds of numbers all around the world, and due to the nature of the product, they're pretty much locked in for the year unless something absolutely required a multi-billion dollar fix.

Not to mention the fact that releasing a mid-year "fix" to the iPhone 4 would open them up to a class-action suit (as a best-case scenario).

If you're waiting on a hardware change to the iPhone in regards to the antenna, I wouldn't expect one in 2011 let alone 2010. I wouldn't even be surprised to not see a change in 2012 either.

Android must be crushing the iPhone!!!!!!

OK, not really, but that's how some news sites will interpret this.

Well. Seems even the iPhone 4 record sales didn't help Apple to get more marketshare.

Are people really still holding out for the white phones? It's been 4 months with no release date in sight.

Yes... my wife. She's holding strong with her cracked 3G. I've been trying to convince her it's time to get the Black one before she completely shatters the front on her current one.

I ordered a 16GB iPhone online on 9/30.

It is still showing a shipping date of 10/22

Blows me away that people are holding out for the white one.. I could understand if it was difference between a hot pink iphone and a white one.. But black and white? Really? That's the deal breaker?

...but I'm also holding out for a white one. I know it's kinda silly - it's not like it won't be in a case anyway - but I want a white one. $400 is a lot of money to fork over if you don't like the available color. I'm hoping they get this ironed out by then.

The new Microsoft phones will be out zoon. You will then have a choice of brown. ;)

Which is amazing considering it is one single phone model offered by very few carriers worldwide competing against an avalanche of models sold at cheaper prices or given away for free.

Rationale

Blows me away that people are holding out for the white one.. I could understand if it was difference between a hot pink iphone and a white one.. But black and white? Really? That's the deal breaker?

Since the first iPod, white has been an iconic color for Apple among a sea of beige/gray/black lookalikes. How many black phones exist? Virtually every brand, especially the droids.

Me, I'll limp along with my white 3G until I can get another white iPhone. I've waited long enough that I'm resigned to next July. Then, ATT will have deployed 4G service, and I'm sure Apple will capitalize on that for the iPhone "4G."

Don't believe the media hype - 99.5% of people don't experience this 'issue' - it tends to be those in very poor signal areas. None of my friends around the world experience this issue to any more extent that sometimes losing one or two signal bars, it doesn't affect their ability to make or receive calls.

Nonsense. I've experienced it with every single iPhone 4 (approximately 10 different ones) display models I've held inside different Apple Stores. Anyone can recreate the signal loss issue by going into an Apple Store and placing a finger over that little black strip.

I'm not an iPhone basher. I actually want to purchase an iPhone 4, but am waiting until that issue gets fixed. For the premium that Apple charges, consumers deserve a premium product. Only fanboys encourage people to overlook significant flaws in Apple products.

My 3G is still kicking with only 1/3 of the screen working. The white one needs to come out soon. I don't like the black one, its boring.

I am surprised the Apple store is stating that they are so far behind.

You can walk into any Best Buy, Apple, or At&T store and get one immediately.

Seems odd.
